ALL PROCEEDS BENEFIT THE MUSEUM PROGRAMS AT SURRATT HOUSE. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * An Act of the United States Post Office Department on Friday, October 6, 1854, created the post office of Surratts, Prince George Co., Md. John Harrison Surratt, Postmaster. FROM POST OFFICE REGULATIONS OF 1855 Sec. 29 A postmaster will always be in readiness in person, or by his assistants, to receive the mail when it arrives, and dispatch it with all possible expedition. Sec. 30 If no special order upon the subject has been made in regard to his office, he is allowed seven minutes only to change the mail. As a 21st-century, volunteer organization, our operation is no longer under the purview of 1855 Post Office regulations. Unlike the postmaster of 1855, who was allowed seven minutes only to change the mail, we are required under FTC Rules to fill mail orders within six weeks. We do, however, respond to inquiries and orders with all possible expedition, usually mailing out items within 2-3 days of receipt of your order. In the event your order is delayed, please bear with us. (Rev July 20, 2012)
