Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Matthew 9:36-38 From Pastor Ralph... When something is important to us, we plan for it. We make vacation plans, financial plans, career plans, education plans, exercise plans, retirement plans, and so on. The most important thing in life is to grow spiritually. So, in all our planning, we must plan for that! We were created for relationship with God, and knowing Him is eternal life (John 17:3). God wants us to be like Jesus transformed into His image (Romans 8:29). He calls us to make a difference with our lives by bearing fruit (John 15:8). Several years ago at Harvest we realized something that now seems obvious: we are more likely to grow if we make plans for growth than if we just wait around and hope it will happen. Like all the other things we plan for, spiritual growth mostly happens as we plan for it. Over the next couple of weeks we are asking everyone who is a part of Harvest to make a Plan for Spiritual Growth. At the end of the service on September 8, we will commit our plans to the Lord. Brochures and commitment cards are being mailed and are also available online and at the church information tables. In this plan we focus on five areas that are proven to bring spiritual growth: Worship with and commitment to 1 the family of God. The Bible tells us to meet together, and no one can excel in spiritual growth in isolation. Giving. God is a giver, and He 2 wants us to be like Him and to learn to use all we have for His glory, including finances (Malachi 3:8-10). Small Group connection so we 3 can share with other Christians as the New Testament tells us to. Ministry. All believers are called 4 to minister, and we grow in ministry as the Holy Spirit works through us. This is how we bear fruit. Personal Growth Habits such 5 as daily Bible reading, prayer, fasting, meditation, reading Christian books, listening to Christian music, participation in conferences, retreats, classes, and other teaching opportunities, all help to transform us. As you make plans this fall, don t skip planning for what is most important. Ask the Lord what He wants you to plan to do to know Him better, grow in becoming like Him, and to make a difference with your life in ministry for His kingdom.

Getting To Know Our Harvest Worship Team Featured Member: Diane Beech I have been in church all of my life. And pretty much have always played the piano in church. It wasn t until I started to go to Harvest about Cheryl Hidle Director of Worship six years ago that I really started to understand what it meant to be a Christian. Like I have heard so many people say, I felt the presence of God the first time I walked into the building. My relationship with God has grown so much since I came to Harvest. To be able to serve on the Harvest Worship Team has been one factor that has helped me to grow spiritually. In order to help lead other people in worship, I know how important it is for me to keep my relationship with Him very constant. I feel truly blessed to be able to serve on the Worship Team with a group of authentic worshipers. & Performing Arts To get involved, contact Cheryl Hidle, worship@harvestdothan.com or 702.6555, x247 Page 3

Harvest Main Meeting - Wednesdays, 6:30pm, upstairs in the Education Bldg. Youth Small Groups - Sundays, 6:30-8pm, upstairs in the Education Bldg. We are looking forward to the fall in youth ministry. One thing that is a highlight of the fall is our youth retreat. This is a chance for students to get a break from school and spend time in an environment where their faith can be encouraged. This year we will be going to the Laguna Beach Christian Retreat Center in Panama City, FL October 13-15. I m excited that our very own Bill Dorminy will be speaking to our students this year. He has a passion for this generation and wisdom for life that our students need to hear. I want every student who has a desire to be at this retreat to be able to go. Financially for some this can be a challenge. If you have the resources to be able to help sponsor a student, I would love to talk to you. Investing in the next generation has eternal reward. Please continue to pray for our group in these areas: pray that God would deepen the faith of our students, pray for their perseverance in their schools as they are living for Christ, and pray that God would continue to bring new students into the church who need to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
