Transcription:

For the diary Thurs 10th May Ascension Day Tues 15th May 10am Elders Morning Tea Just Manna: In recent weeks, Just Manna has been delighted to respond to request for support from Syrian refugees who have settled in Perth. We have a specific on-going need from one family for nappies for 2 of their children, a 12 month of baby and a severely disabled 9 year old girl. The cost of the nappies is putting the family in financial difficulty. A basket will be made available in church on Sunday mornings for those who would like to donate nappies( sizes 10-15 kg and 10-18 kg) Cash donations are also welcome... see Laurel, Michael or Joan. SEXUAL HARASSMENT IN THE CHURCH?? Yes, it happens, and it is an issue we must take seriously if we are serious about being followers of Christ. I have signed up for a short online course on sexual harassment in the church. It only takes 45 minutes in total and you can do it in your own time between May 14 and 28. I encourage all members of the St. Paul's community to take this course with me. the link is https://www.churchnext.tv/ Rev'd Stuart Fenner BANKING INFORMATION FOR ST. 1. Tell out my soul Tune VU 168 Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord! Unnumbered blessings give my spirit voice; tender to me the promise of his word; in God my Saviour shall my heart rejoice. Tell out, my soul, the greatness of his Name! Make known his might, the deeds his arm has done; his mercy sure, from age to age to same; his holy Name--the Lord, the Mighty One. Tell out, my soul, the greatness of his might! Powers and dominions lay their glory by. Proud hearts and stubborn wills are put to flight, the hungry fed, the humble lifted high. Tell out, my soul, the glories of his word! Firm is his promise, and his mercy sure. Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord to children's children and for evermore! Words: Timothy Dudley-Smith 1962, renewal 1990 Hope Publishing Co. Music: Walter Greatorex 1916 1 2. Amazing Grace VU 766 Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found, was blind but now I see. Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed. Through many dangers, toils and snares I have already come; Tis grace that brought me safe thus far and grace will lead me home. The Lord has promised good to me, this word my hope secures; God will my shield and portion be as long as life endures. When we ve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun, We ve no less days to sing God s praise than when we d first begun. Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found, was blind but now I see. 14 Christabel thanks everyone who made her 70th Birthday celebration such a lovely gathering of community family and friends. St Paul's shone! I soar and rise Up to the skies, Leaving the world their day, And in my flight, For the true light Go seeking all the way. Henry Vaughan, from Ascension Day (Ascension Day Thursday 10 th May)

13 We break this bread to share in the body of Christ We who are many are one body in Christ For we all share in the one bread All are invited to share in communion, as the parish community of St Paul s offers the hospitality of the altar to all. PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION Living God, In this holy meal you fill us with new hope. May the power of your love, which we have known in word and sacrament, Continue your saving work among us, give us courage for our pilgrimage, And bring us to the joys you promise. Most Loving God You send us into the world You love Give us grace to go thankfully And sight to find our reflection In the cross of love and drawn out from the tomb of darkness May we live in the power of your Spirit Amen. All stand for the blessing and dismissal Priest: The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. And the blessings of God Almighty The Creator, the Redeemer and the Sanctifier, Be upon you and remain with you always. Amen. Priest: We acknowledge the Nyungar people as the traditional custodians of this land and we pay our respects to their elders past and present. 2 Blessed be the one, holy and living God Glory to God for ever and ever. Christ is risen He is risen indeed. Deacon or PA or priest assist the children to light the candle Deacon or PA: Sentence As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. Prayer of preparation Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden; cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. Deacon or PA: Go in Peace to love and serve the Lord In the name of Christ, Amen (Lines 1-5 of blessing from Numbers 6:24-26)

Priest: 3 Kyrie eleison Christe eleison Kyrie eleison Glory to God, wisdom of creation and light of all life Glory to God, gift of life and Spirit of Love. Glory to God, our birth, our death and our Divine life in Christ. Congregation stands and sings the Gloria response Priest: The Collect Gloria, gloria, in excelsis Deo! Gloria, gloria, alleluia, alleluia! God of Love, Song of Creation Through water, blood and the Divine Spirit we receive life, And in love we make manifest life s divine fruit. In Christ, Divine Love is revealed in all life, And in our loving one another we create a community of life that realizes your Divine Glory Amen 12 During the Great Thanksgiving Prayer we echo the words of the priest and may join in the responses Holy, holy, holy Lord God of power and might Heaven and earth are full of your glory Hosanna in the highest! We now proclaim the mystery of faith : Christ has died Christ is risen Christ is come again. Blessing and honour and glory and power are yours for ever and ever Amen. Priest: Let us pray in the words our Saviour Christ has taught us: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours. Now and for ever. Amen.

Offertory and Chant 11 4 First Reading Acts 10: 44-49 We bring forward our gifts to the front of the church, to symbolise the movement of giving, while we chant: Bless the Lord my soul and bless God s holy name, Bless the Lord my soul, who leads me into life Repeat Prayer over the gifts Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have these gifts to share. Accept and use our offerings for your glory and for the service of your kingdom. Blessed be God for ever. While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard the word. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles, 46 for they heard them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter said, 47 "Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?" 48 So he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they invited him to stay for several days. For the word of the Lord Thanks be to God Holy Communion Priest: The Lord be with you And also with you Lift up your hearts We lift them to the Lord Let nothing disturb you, Let nothing frighten you, All things are passing; God only is changeless. Patience gains all things. Who has God wants nothing. God alone suffices. Teresa of Avila Let us give thanks to the Lord our God It is right to give our thanks and praise

Psalm 98 5 We sing to the Lord with joy, and praise his marvellous love 1 O sing to the Lord a new song: for he has done marvellous things; 2 His right hand and his holy arm: they have got him the victory. 3 The Lord has made known his salvation: he has revealed his just deliverance in the sight of the nations. We sing to the Lord with joy, and praise his marvellous love 4 He has remembered his mercy and faithfulness towards the house of Israel: and all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. 5 Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth: break into singing and make melody. We sing to the Lord with joy, and praise his marvellous love 6 Make melody to the Lord upon the harp: upon the harp and with the sounds of praise. 7 With trumpets and with horns: cry out in triumph before the Lord, the king. We sing to the Lord with joy, and praise his marvellous love 8 Let the sea roar, and all that fills it: the good earth and those who live upon it. 9 Let the rivers clap their hands: and let the mountains ring out together before the Lord; 10 For he comes to judge the earth: he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity. We sing to the Lord with joy, and praise his marvellous love God is an unutterable sigh, planted in the depths of the soul. Jean Paul Richter 10 Deacon or PA: Prayer of Approach Loving God, We open our eyes to the beauty of your holiness; We open our ears to the message of your word; We open our minds to the challenge of your truth; We open our hearts to the power of your love; We open our lives to the coming of your Spirit, That we may truly worship you, now and forever. As we prepare to celebrate the mystery of Christ s love let us look within, search our hearts, and seek God s healing grace. God of the loving heart, we confess before You those places in our hearts where we have refused you entrance: people we have refused to love; habits we have never got round to changing; good things we have left undone; and ways in which we hurt You, ourselves and others. Come to us in the light of Your Christ. Shine on those places we have hidden from You. Show us new ways to live. Sweep clean the rooms of our hearts, that Christ may find a home in us. Be among us now and forever. Amen. The Priest pronounces the absolution. Almighty God who has promised forgiveness to all who turn to him in faith: pardon and deliver you from all your sins, strengthen you in all goodness and keep you in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen We are the body of Christ God s Spirit is with us The peace of the Lord be always with you And also with you We share with each other the Greeting of the Peace

Priest: We now reaffirm as our own, the faith of the Church Do you believe in God the Gift of love and the source of Life? We believe in a God whose love is the source of all life and the desire of our lives, whose love was given a human face in Jesus of Nazareth, whose love was crucified by the evil that waits to enslave us all and whose love, defeating even death, is our glorious promise of freedom. Therefore, though we are sometimes fearful and full of doubt, in God we trust; and, in the name of Jesus Christ, we commit ourselves, in the service of others, to seek justice and to live in peace to care for the earth and to share the commonwealth of God's goodness, to live in the freedom of forgiveness and the power of the spirit of love, and in the company of the faithful so to be the church, for the glory of God. Amen. [from the Iona community, Isle of Iona] Priest: God has called us out of darkness into God s marvellous light We will shine as a light in the world to the glory of God Pray that we will bear much fruit to the glory of the Divine and give of ourselves to create light and life. 9 God so loved the world that he gave his only Son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life 6 Second Reading 1 John 5: 1-12 1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the parent loves the child. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3 For the love of God is this, that we obey his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome, 4 for whatever is born of God conquers the world. And this is the victory that conquers the world, our faith. 5 Who is it that conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 6 This is the one who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not with the water only but with the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one that testifies, for the Spirit is the truth. 7 There are three that testify: 8 the Spirit and the water and the blood, and these three agree. 9 If we receive human testimony, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God that he has testified to his Son. 10 Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony in their hearts. Those who do not believe in God have made him a liar by not believing in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son. 11 And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. For the word of the Lord - Thanks be to God We are the bees of the invisible Rainer Maria Rilke

7 We listen for the Gospel, and open ourselves to hearing the Word the voice that speaks of divine birth and life lived in the place of resurrection. Alleluia Alleluia Alleluia Alleluia Alleluia Alleluia Just as a circle embraces all that is within it, so does the God-head embrace all. No one has the power to divide this circle, or surpass it, or to limit it. Hildegard of Bingen Gospel Reading 8 A reading from the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John, Chapter 15, beginning at the 9 th verse Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. 11 I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. 12 "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15 I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. 16 You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. 17 I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another. For the Gospel of the Lord Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ The Sermon
