He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Luke 4:18-19 (NKJ) It is the vision of Mt. Olive to be a church that is intentional in its efforts to identify and meet the needs of broken, hurt and oppressed people in the greater Glen Allen area through the message and ministry of Jesus Christ. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 2 MOBC FAITH DEVELOPMENT!! HOW TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST The Lenten Season INTO YOUR HEART February 18 April 4, 2015 The Pulpit Attire is Purple Lent: The forty days are taken from the days of temptations and fasting Jesus spent in the wilderness. The forty days extend from Ash Wednesday to Easter Eve and contains six Sundays. Theme For This Quarter: ACTS OF WORSHIP The study of this quarter is primarily from the New Testament. Its three units follow the theme of worship as it pertains to a human response to God. UNIT 3: STEWARDSHIP FOR LIFE The four lessons in this study examine various aspects of steward-ship from Matthew, Luke, and Ephesians. March 1, 2015 NEXT WEEK S LESSON: The Lamb of God John 1:29-34 In a world of competing religious and political values, people are not always clear how one system can be of any greater value that another. How can Christians know which set of beliefs carries more weight than any others? John testifies that the baptism o f the Holy Spirit surpasses water baptism and that the Spirit bears witness that Jesus is God s Son. MONDAY: The Spirit and Joseph Genesis 41:38-43 TUESDAY: The Spirit and Bezalel Exodus 31:1-6 WEDNESDAY: The Spirit and the Elders Numbers 11:11-25 THURSDAY: Would That All Had the Spirit! Numbers 11:26-30 FRIDAY: Make the Way Straight John 1:19-23 SATURDAY: Why are You Baptizing? John 1:24-28 SUNDAY: I Saw the Spirit Descending John 1:29-34 Sermon Highlights: February 15, 2015 Title: Am I Doing My Part? Text: Ephesians 4:25-29 Main Idea: As a unified body, Paul is trying to help us do our part to keep the unity of the church. We must view verse 29 as: Points: 1) Instruction. 2) Insight. 3) An invitation. For the full message order a CD or DVD of the service from the Media Ministry. CDs $5.00; Double CDs $7.00; DVDs $10.00 Perhaps while reading the announcements you realized you have never made a Christian commitment. Don t delay that decision! We encourage you to embrace God s love today and receive the salvation that only Jesus Christ gives. Here are five simple steps you can take to find assurance of salvation. 1. Recognize your need. The Bible tell us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Rom. 3:23) All of us are sinners, and we must admit our need for a Savior. 2. Repent of your sins. Our sins create a wall that separates us from God. By confessing our sins and turning from them, you will find forgiveness. The Bible promises: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). 3. Believe in Jesus. God sent His only Son to die so that He could pay for all our sins. Put your faith in Him and believe in His power to save you. The Bible says, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16). 4. Receive His salvation. God has given us a great gift in His Son, but we must receive His gift. Thank Him for loving and forgiving you, and ask Him to live in your heart. His promise to us is clear: But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12). 5. Confess your faith. The Bible assures us: If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Rom. 10:9). You have been born again and are now part of God s family. Tell some one else what Jesus has done in your life! Bible Institute Winter 2015 semester now in session. Class meets every Wednesday evening from 6:30 PM 8:00 PM in the MP Building Classroom #1. This quarter the study focuses on the book of Acts: the development of the early church, the life and missionary journey of Paul, and the geographical and social backgrounds. Instructor: Marilyn E. Coates

10 Superfoods Healthier Than Kale In the world of marketing, image is everything. If you're James Franco or Roger Federer or Taylor Swift, your name and face can be used to sell anything from phones to watches to perfume -- even if you're not necessarily famous for the your tech-savvy, your promptness, or the way you smell. In the food world, the biggest celebrity of all might be kale -- the Shakira of salads, the Lady Gaga of leafy greens. It's universally recognized that kale anything--kale chips, kale pesto, kale face cream -- instantly imparts a health halo. Even 7-Eleven is making over its image by offering kale cold-pressed juices. And yes, kale has plenty of benefits -- including high levels of folate and more calcium, gram for gram, than a cup of milk. Still, kale's actually not the healthiest green on the block. In fact, in a recent report published by the Centers for Disease Control that ranked 47 "powerhouse fruits and vegetables," kale placed only 15th (with 49.07 points out of 100 for nutrient density)! Here's a roundup of the 10 leafy green cousins that researchers say pack a greater nutritional wallop. This week: SUPERFOOD #3 CHARD GREENS Nutrition Score: 89.27 Chard. Sounds like "burnt." It's not as fun a name to drop as, say, "broccolini," but it might be your best defense against diabetes. Recent research has shown that these powerhouse leaves contain at least 13 different polyphenol antioxidants, including anthocyanins-anti-inflammatory compounds that could offer protection from type 2 diabetes. Researchers from the University of East Anglia analyzed questionnaires and blood samples of about 2,000 people and found that those with the highest dietary intakes of anthocyanins had lower insulin resistance and better blood glucose regulation. Friends: In Sunday School, your child will build positive friendships with their peers by discovering God's Word together. 3. It's Fun: Sunday School is not Disney Land, but our teachers do work hard to teach the Bible in ways that are relevant and fun for kids. 4. Spiritual Mentors: A dedicated teacher can be a Christian role model who supports you and helps inspire the faith of your child. 5.
