They all experience obstacles to their ministry. Ezekiel is summoned to prophesy to the Israelites, who are [h]ard of face and obstinate of heart (Ezekiel 2:4). Saint Paul recounts how he has been given a thorn in the flesh (2 Corinthians 12:7). The Lord Jesus is unable to perform many signs in his native place. The Gospel tells us that [he] was amazed at their lack of faith (Mark 6:6). We too sometimes encounter obstacles as we travel along the journey of faith. So often we experience weakness on this journey. Let the words of the Lord to Saint Paul encourage us today: My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). SUNDAY S READINGS First Reading They shall know that a prophet has been among them (Ezekiel 2:2-5). Psalm Our eyes are fixed on the Lord, pleading for his mercy (Psalm 123). Second Reading I am content with weaknesses and hardships for the sake of Christ (2 Corinthians 12:7-10). Gospel The people said: Where did this man get all this? Is he not the carpenter, the son of Mary? (Mark 6:1-6).

T jéüwaaa When we come to Mass what exactly do we expect to hear? What do we expect to do? It is sad to hear some of the answers. So many want to hear about God s love for us, how important they are in the eyes of God, and leave feeling wonderful Neverland is the third star to the right! A feel-good religion is what gave rise to teleevangelists and super-churches. Great music, feel good sermons, some scripture, dubious interpretations, a mega-collection, and everybody leaves happy. That is not the Catholic Mass. We come prepared to meet Jesus in the Eucharist, we are reminded about living a part of the world and not apart of the world. We are called to see in the sacrifices of Christ, our call to sacrifice for our brothers and sisters. We hear that life is a struggle, but God is with us through the struggles. We experience the support of our fellow parishioners in prayer and are reminded that we are not alone. We do not have a feel good religion. We are called to hear the horrors of abortion and be reminded that life has value because God created it. We need to hear challenges to our politicians who act contrary to the Gospel we hold dear. We need to hear when laws are enacted that fail to protect the innocent, the unborn, the senior, the religious baker, the sick and the refugee. We as Catholics have positions on every piece of our existence. What we have become is a check the box, get it done, sometime Mass goer, who lives life as we choose, not as God commands. So many don t believe in the Real Presence in the Eucharist or the existence of the Devil and that Hell is a consequence of sin. We believe that there is a Heaven for those who live moral, virtuous, faith-filled lives, and that there is a Hell, the just reward for those who have chosen to live their lives without God, they are allowed to live eternity without God. Everything we do can, and should find its logical beginning and ending within the walls of the house that God abides. We do God no favor by showing up. We give thanks to God for allowing us in His presence, hence, we are there to worship God, not ourselves. It s not about the priest, the hymns, the homily or the flowers. It s about acknowledging our sins, praying of r grace, praying for the sick, remembering the dead and asking for the grace to live what we have just celebrated every moment of every day. Then, maybe then, we can feel good. ctü á{ cütçxü exöâxáàá Please keep the following people in your prayers. Raymond Sanchez, Madeline Dean, Anthony Cannuli,Bibimai Sawian, Parker Vetrano Fatovic, Maribeth Groth, Kate Picciano, Pat Atwater, Doreen Pohorylo, Dominick Cannavo, Len Bencivenga, Ivan Babic, Jr., Trevor Roberts, Colleen Deery, Peter Weiler, Mickey Donovich, and Margaret Honan. CONSIDERING A FAMILY OUTING? Last year s Annual Pilgrimage took us to the Blue Army Shrine. This summer why not take a break and visit the beautiful Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima in Asbury, NJ, for "A Weekend of Eucharistic Reparation" in honor of the 101st Anniversary of the apparitions at Fatima, July 12-15. Arrive before the Blessed Sacrament as we pray the Rosary each hour, celebrate Holy Mass, and join in round-the-clock Eucharistic Adoration. Families and individuals are all welcome. Make it a different kind of family outing. Visit their website www.bluearmy.com or call 908-303-8859 for more information. Child Protection Announcement Anyone who needs to report an alleged incident of sexual abuse of a minor by a priest, deacon, religious or lay person serving in the Archdiocese of New York is asked to contact Sr. Eileen Clifford, OP at (121) 371-1000x2949. She may also be reached via email at victimsassistance@archny.org. Information can also be found on the Archdiocesan website, www.archny.org. In keeping with the Archdiocesan policy regarding sexual abuse of minors, this information is provided to ensure that our children remain safe and secure. ATTENTION ALL HS STUDENTS On Saturday, October 20, the NY ARCH Office of Youth Ministry will be holding its 8th Annual Catholic Youth Day, right in our backyard, at the Westchester County Center. This is an opportunity we don t want to miss, and we would like to find out if any of our Catholic REP Graduates/HS students would like to commit to attending it! - and we would like to register early. To qualify, all interested HS student parents must contact the Rectory no later than Friday August 13. One caveat - per NY ARCH guidelines - we will also need chaperones to accompany the group. We are requesting one chaperone for every four (4) students. To that end, we recommend parents of interested students put together small groups of four students plus one adult chaperone to accompany their group. We will be in touch with our chaperones to provide them with more information on what to expect. Catholic Youth Day is always a lot of fun. This year won t be any different. Check our website for more info. Remember, students participating need to be ICC REP grads or members of practicing Catholic families - that means attending Mass regularly so we know who you are. Safety comes first. Questions? Call 591-7480.

MINISTRY RECRUITMENT This month we commence our Ministry Recruitment for the upcoming year. Why during the Summer when it is quiet. Precisely because it is quiet, for it is often in silence that we are closest to our Lord. More to come next Sunday!
