Text: Psalm 19 INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Meditation 1 Bethany III 3 July 2016 Holy Communion Sunday MICA (P) No.: 030/10/2012 MEDITATION Rev Dr Charles Tan THE HEAVENS DECLARE THE GLORY OF GOD Announcements 3 Worship 8 Poetry Corner 9 Bible Memory Work 10 This Week @ Worship 11 MANY THEORIES ABOUT THE CREATION OF THE UNIVERSE Many are the theories advanced to explain the existence of the earth and the universe. Sadly, these theories have been mistaken for facts. Till today, they remain as theories. No one has been able to postulate anything more than hypotheses! page 1 (continued on page 2)

MEDITATION (Continued from page 1) A BIBLICAL STANCE The Psalmist David advanced his understanding that the world was in truth created by the Lord God. With great inspiration and boldness, he wrote these words. The heavens declare the glory of God, And the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night Reveals knowledge. Psalm 19:1-2 1. The heavens declare the glory of God (a) This was a statement of faith (b) This was also a statement of truth (as far as David was concerned) (c) With eyes of faith David saw the glory of God 2. And the firmament shows His handiwork (a) David was able to appreciate the Lord s handiwork (b) It takes more than faith to appreciate the details of God s handiwork (c) It takes wisdom and discernment 3. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge (a) A brilliant observation is made here (b) Much knowledge may be gained just by observing nature carefully (c) Both day and night offer insights that help us to appreciate the glory of God (Continued on page 3) page 2

MEDITATION (Continued from page 2) Let us pause and reflect on the glory of God revealed in nature! May our hearts be filled with a sense of wonder as we look at God s creation! THE HIDDEN GLORY OF THE WORD OF GOD Psalm 19 attempts to speak of the glory of God in a second way. The latter part of the Psalm focuses on the glory of the Word of God. The glory of God s word may be seen in the following ways! 1. It can convert the soul of a sinner Psalm 19:7 2. It can make the simple wise Psalm 19:7 3. It can rejoice the heart Psalm 19:8 4. It can enlighten the eyes Psalm 19:8 Let us rejoice in the glorious word of God! May we truly give God glory for the wonderful Scriptures that we can read and understand! Write to me at: charlestan@bethanyipc.sg We are glad that you have chosen to worship the Lord Jesus Christ with us today. May your heart be greatly lifted up through worship and fellowship! to Bethany III page 3

Venue: Shangri La CELEBRATING OUR 40+3 ANNIVERSARY We will have a new feature. There will be a Children s Worship Programme. This will be looked after by Camille George and her team. 40+3 Anniversary Children s Programme Dear Bethany, It is good to give thanks to the Lord, And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; Psalm 92:1 Every year, we specially come together as a church to worship and thank the Lord for His blessings upon Bethany. This spirit of praise and thanksgiving is something that we want to teach our children too! That is why at Shangrila this year, we will be having a special children s programme that will run parallel to the main Morning Worship. (Continued on page 7) page 6

ANNOUNCEMENTS (Continued from page 6) At the special Children s Worship we hope to help the children understand why Bethany determines to celebrate her anniversary significantly every year and how we ought to have hearts that seek to give thanks to the Lord always! The programme will be planned with children aged 5-12 years old in mind. Please let Mrs Chin Lai Heong or Dns Ng Lay Eng know at the anniversary sign-up booth if you are signing up your children, or inviting friends with children within this age range. If you have any queries, please feel free to contact me at camilleageorge@gmail.com or 9634 9131! Thank you! In His Grace, Camille Dear Pastor A FOND FAREWELL We will be flying out to Nebraska next Monday to join Murphy. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for feeding us with God s word and all the encouragement to love and grow in the knowledge of God through His word. We are so very thankful for the family of Bethany and all the support. The children are feeling sad about leaving as they have grown to learn and love God through church and camps. God willing, we can find a sound church for the whole family to worship in and be a blessing to. page 7 (Continued on page 8)

The inspiration to sing to the honour and glory of God (a) The awesomeness of God s work (b) The greatness of God s power displayed in all His works! page 8

POETRY CORNER I HAVE BLOTTED OUT, LIKE A THICK CLOUD, YOUR TRANSGRESSIONS Many are the transgressions in our life and we hang our head in shame, We cannot point the finger at anyone, we must bear the full blame. Our hearts are heavy because of the weight of many grievous sins, How we long to know that there is forgiveness from deep within! The Lord knows our struggles and how we are wearied in life, There is great anxiety, deep fears and so very much strife. He bids us consider His words that must bring comfort to our soul, He is able to deal with our sins and He is able to make us whole. He says lovingly, I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions. How precious are these words; they can lift up the most dreaded depression! He says again to hearts full of doubts and fears, And like a cloud, your sins, How we must turn to the Lord in gratitude that we can cleansed from within. He bids us return to Him for He has made possible our redemption, Jesus is that great Saviour who offers us this wonderful salvation. Our hearts must be filled with the greatest sense of joy and love, Who else but the LORD can offer such redemption from heaven above! Inspiration: Isaiah 44:22 Charles Tan page 9

Content: The cry of the angels (a) They proclaimed the holiness of God (b) Holiness is an attribute of God that reflects His glory NEXT SUNDAY: 10 July 2016 Isaiah 12:5 He has done excellent things Sing to the LORD, For He has done excellent things; This is known in all the earth. page 10

PASTORAL LETTER Dear Brethren, 3 July 2016 PULPIT THEME FOR JULY-AUGUST 2016 The theme for the Pulpit for the months of July-August is taken from the book of Isaiah. Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him. Isaiah 43:7 Senior Pastor : Rev Dr Charles Tan This theme, Created for My glory, is a truly profound one. It deserves careful attention. The truths that were applied to Israel may also be applied to us today! Mailing Address : 301, Upper Paya Lebar Road. Singapore 534934 Tel : (65) 62877713 Fax : (65) 62877980 Website : www.bethanyipc.sg 1. Application to Israel a) This was God s special word to His people b) He wanted them to know that He had created the nation and its people c) This should have been an obvious truth, but because of its sinfulness, this understanding was lost to them 2. What God did a) He sent Isaiah to teach Israel many vital lessons about faith b) He gave many special messages that were meant to lift up their hearts 3. This text was one of many that Isaiah taught Israel a) They were called by the name of the Lord i) They were His people ii) His name was associated with them b) God had created: i) The nation of Israel ii) Each person had been specially created to reflect the Lord s glory Prayerfully, Pastor Charlie God s kind of Church where God is touching lives and people care for people
