Page 2 Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time Pastor s Page Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, St. Paul, in today s letter to the Corinthians, says that If I preach the gospel, this is no reason for me to boast, for an obligation has been imposed on me, and woe to me if I do not preach it! If I do so willingly, I have a recompense, but if unwillingly, then I have been entrusted with a stewardship. In other words, his preaching the Gospel is not his own creation, but rather an obligation placed on his heart by God, which he feels compelled to fulfill. This is what he means by stewardship knowing that God Himself has entrusted him with this responsibility. This weekend we continue our Pastoral Services Appeal and we celebrate our Ministry Fair. Both of these are important components of our stewardship, that is, the wise and fruitful use of the time, talent and treasure which God has entrusted to each of us for His glory. PSA allows to us direct our treasure toward not only the work of our parish, but that of the larger Church throughout the diocese, to which we belong and the Ministry Fair helps us to celebrate, to learn about and to offer our time and talents to the parish within our various ministries and programs. St. Paul refused pay and became all things to all people to bring them to Christ. May we respond to the Lord with the same generosity of spirit. Fr. Bruce Hospitality will be offered between the 9 a.m. Mass and the 10 a.m. presentations. Please join us for one session or all 6! God Bless You for your generosity! International Day of Prayer Against Human Trafficking: "Slaves no more, but sisters and brothers" February 8, 2015 February 8, the Feast Day of St. Josephine Bakhita, is the first International Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking celebrated in diocese and parishes around the world. St. Bakhita was kidnapped as a child and sold into slavery in Sudan. After gaining her freedom, she became a religious sister and dedicated her life to sharing her testament of deliverance from slavery and comforting those who suffer. Today as many as 28.9 million people are enslaved throughout the world. The goal of this Day is to create greater awareness of this violence and injustice that affects so many people and to attempt to provide solutions to counter this modern day slavery by taking concrete actions. More at www.lifejusticepeace.org. O God, when we hear of children and adults deceived and taken to unknown places for purposes of sexual exploitation, forced labor, and organ 'harvesting' our hearts are saddened and our spirits angry that their dignity and rights are ignored through threats, lies, and force. We cry out against the evil practice of this modern slavery, and pray with St. Bakhita for it to end. Give us wisdom and courage to reach out and stand with those whose bodies, hearts and spirits have been so wounded, so that together we may make real your promises to fill these sisters and brothers with a love that is tender and good. Send the exploiters away emptyhanded to be converted from this wickedness, and help us all to claim the freedom that is your gift to your children. Amen.
