PERSONAL DISCIPLE- MAKING PLAN The joy, for us as believer s, is that while we look to Jesus Christ, keeping our eyes affixed on our goal, we are changed into his image. As we follow Jesus leading, he transforms our minds, wills, emotions, and desires to fit His eternal purpose. As a Christ follower, we exist as disciples, to make disciples of Jesus, both in Scott County and worldwide. There are no spectators. All people who love Jesus, are called to be disciples and to be disciple makers. How are you going to be both a disciple and a disciple maker? It is our purpose, at COAH church, to be very proactive in engaging you in the disciple making process by asking you some very directed questions which everyone, including church leadership, will benefit from answering and daily keeping in focus. God can and will use you to serve in advancing His Kingdom by helping you make disciples of Jesus. Every member of COAH church is encouraged to write out a personal disciple making plan and share it with someone else. Our delight, and prayer, is that every member would have an intentional well thought out plan to not only be a fisher of men and a disciple of Jesus while on this earth, but also to be active disciple maker s, while on our journey toward heaven. (Matthew 4:19; Matthew 28:18-20) So please consider and thoughtfully answer these questions. After a general overview, there will be a few more specific questions to really get you to think about how you can plan these things out and put your thoughts in writing. Be very specific in your plans, and intentions, for being a disciple of Jesus and making disciples of Jesus, but remember not to forget the many things that you likely already do in this process, such as bible reading, bible study, prayer, church, etc. You don t necessarily need to think up new and creative ways to be a disciple or make disciples, just think practically. 1. How will I fill my mind with Truth? - How have you planned to read the word of God, the Bible, and study it? The Bible is God s own breathed word (2 Timothy 3:16) and is a mirror (James 1:23), which teaches and transforms us into His image. Plan out how you will use reading, studying, memorization of the Bible to help you change. As you intake the word, remember, it is not about just hearing the word and the accumulation of knowledge, but the goal is only reached when we are changed by the word of God. 2. How will I fuel my Affection for God? Our goal is not to just become mechanical and dead in our routine and in our walk with God, but to love Jesus more. As we fall more in love with Jesus (and God the Father, and the Holy Spirit), our fleshly desires lose power. How are we using worship (corporately and privately), prayer, fasting and giving to help us love Jesus more? (Philippians 1:8-11)

3. How will I share God s Love as a Witness in the World? - As we grow in the grace of God we realize that our will must line up with God s will and heart revealed in His word. The Bible teaches us that our God is a evangelistic God, jealous for His own name. God is on mission to save and redeem a people, who are white hot passionate worshipers. You, too, were once lost in sin and saved by God s great mercy. Who are you sharing God s great love and Gospel with? Who are the people that God has given you to share with? A disciple is a God sharing Christian passionate about declaring His name to the lost. (Romans 10:14) 4. How will I show God s Love as a Member of a Church? - The Bible teaches that individual Jesus lover s congregated in local churches to worship, learn, and engage in the disciple making process as member s of a local church under the submission of the church leadership. Christian s are not intended to be lone sheep but part of a local church, as committed and engaged, active participates in the discipleship process. To follow Christ is to love His Church. This frequently butts head s with the modern American sense of individuality and church consumerism, but is thoroughly biblical, spiritual and practical. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) 5. How will I Spread God s Glory among All people s? - Our God is a missionary God. His purpose, before the foundation of the world, is to save people s from every nation, tribe, tongue and people group through His Son Jesus. How are you engaged in this mission of God? This is not something that only extraordinary Christians do (not a super- Christian! ) but ordinary, everyday Christians. How is your obedience going to impact the nations, and what plans are you making to give, to go, to send missionaries to spread the flame of the Gospel to all nations for God s supreme glory? (Luke 24:47, Matthew 28:18-20) 6. How will I make disciple- maker s among a Few people? - As we engage in following Christ, we must be intentional about impacting those whom we rub shoulder s with everyday. As Jesus was about taking a few men and making them into disciples, we too, must be about this process. No Christian is excused from the express command of Jesus, our Lord and Savior, to make disciples of all people s. How will you make disciple- makers among a few people? No Jesus lover is intended to be on the sidelines in this process. We are Christians, who love Jesus, and have been called by God, redeemed, adopted, and are on a process to become just like him. We, as Christ follower s, have taken on our God s mission, which is to be a disciple of Jesus who makes disciples of Jesus, both locally and worldwide. Making a personal plan, detailing in writing how this can begin to happen will go a long way toward making this a joyful reality as we join God and others in His glorious mission of love to the world. Please make a thoughtful effort to implement a plan on how you are going to be a disciple of Christ and how you are going to be a disciple maker for Christ. Think carefully over these following questions, write down practical responses, pray over these things, share them with someone else, and most of all, act on them.

1. How Will I Fill My Mind with Truth? How will I read God s Word? Are you reading God s word every day? You may start by reading a chapter or two of the Bible daily. It is a great recommendation to use a daily reading plan or guide. There are also several phone app s if you are more technical which can be useful. (esp. for I- phone, android, or online use). Reading the Bible through helps to see God s overall redemptive plan more clearly and leads to growth in Christ. You can explore a list of suggested Bible reading plans at http://thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/justintaylor/2012/12/27/reading- the- bible- in- 2013/. How will I memorize God s Word? You may start by memorizing a verse a week, then gradually add to your Memorization. You may want to start by memorizing especially significant verses which are applicable in your walk. (Psalms 1, 119:105) How will I learn God s Word from others? Not only should you learn by individually having a private devotion every day, reading God s word, Studying, and memorizing but you should learn the bible in community. How do you plan to engage in learning the bible from others, whether by preaching, group bible studies, community groups, small groups, and/or reading books or using resources which can be helpful?

2. How Will I Fuel My Affections for God? How will I worship? Worship is more than just singing praise songs, but entails giving God the glory in everything that we do, think, and feel. (1 Corinthians 10:31) How will you worship God every week privately and in worship together with a local church body? How will I pray? Make plans now to spend daily time praying, being alone with the Father. Being very intentional about planning this out will help it to become a reality, and dedicated prayer will be the fuel for everything that you do as a disciple of Jesus. Make plans to set time aside, whether in morning, mid- day or evening to spend time talking to God. How will I fast? On regular intervals, plan to fast a meal or maybe several meals, and use that time for praying and reading God s word. Occasionally fast for longer periods, a 24 hour or several day fast, where you give up either food or something significant and use the time in prayer. How will I give? How will you be selfless and give of your money, time, resources to the local church and to God. Giving is one of the most effective ways to fuel affection for God. Giving should always be cheerful, sacrificial and generous. Plan on how you will give to God.

3. How Will I Share God s Love as a Witness in the World? Who? Think of 3,5, or perhaps 10 unbeliever s that you personally know and plan on how you can begin to share the Gospel with them. Make plans to purposefully begin praying for these individuals regularly that they would come to Christ. How? Identify how you may most effectively share the Gospel with the individuals above. Through your work, your relationships, your family and friends how can you speak into people s lives telling them of God s character, man s sin, Christ s provision, and our need as men and women to respond to Christ. When? Plan out when the best opportunities would present themselves to share the gospel with these individuals. Is this by inviting them to a meal, over a break at work, at a family get together, just calling them on phone and talking, etc. Make specific plans about how and when you can share the gospel.

4. How Will I Show God s Love as a Member of a Church? Where? As a Christian who is to be a member of a local church, where would you best be engaged in the disciple- making process? (ex- small group/ meeting with other believer s outside of church) What? As you are involved in the local church, what things can you be doing within the church to serve the local church body? How can you build up the body of Christ? What will you do to make sure someone is watching out and keeping you accountable for your life in Christ? 5. How Will I Spread God s Glory among All People s? How will I pray for the nations? Plan on how you will intentionally pray for the nations, and missionaries, that all people s come to know him. As the Lord directs, you may want to focus in on a specific area of the world or a specific people group to pray for. You can use resources such as Joshua Project (www.joshuaproject.net) and Operation World (http://www.operationworld.org) as a guide to help you pray for the nations.

How will I give to the nations? Make plans to sacrifice to give to the nations. This may entail giving money or resources to the local church, who then give to the nations, or it may mean going through other avenues, above and beyond giving to the local church (ex. Supporting a missionary, supporting an international church plant overseas, helping fund a short term missionary, etc.) How will I go to the nations? Consider and plan the ways that you can best proclaim the gospel to the nations, by going to the nations by yourself, or taking your family. Maybe God is calling you to use your career or to work overseas as a tent- maker missionary; maybe God is leading you to go on a short- term mission trip or perhaps a longer period serving needy people overseas on missions. 6. How Will I Make Disciples among a Few People? How will I bring them in? Consider one, two, or several people that God has placed directly in your life to engage in active discipleship with. Invite these people to spend time with you in the future for the purpose of leading them in their growth in Christ.

How will I teach them to obey? Think through how you will teach those people that you will disciple to obey the teachings of Jesus. Focus on teaching your disciples to be doers of the word and not just hearers. You might have them fill out their own personal disciple making plan. You can also use Multiply Material available at http://multiplymovement.com. How will I model obedience? Being a disciple maker entails being a model of Christ to your disciples so that they can see how a Christian is supposed to live, talk, and act. What are some ways that you can intentionally model Christ to them practically in your life.? How will you intentionally guard your heart and mind so that you will be pure as you model Christ to your disciple? How will I send them out? How will you send out those whom you are actively engaged in discipleship with? Think through how you will commission your disciples to be sent out and how you will serve them and help them as they begin to be disciple makers themselves. Now that you have filled out a discipleship plan, who will you share this with? Remember, as believer s, we are meant to belong to a local church body, helping each other in community to grow into the likeness of Jesus Christ. Write down who you plan on sharing this plan with, as they help keep you accountable to this plan.
