mission statement Yeshivas Torah Ore is a post high school Yeshiva for both American and internationally diverse students, located in Kiryas Mattersdorf, Yerushalayim. The Yeshiva was founded on the principal of creating an atmosphere of individualized growth in ruchnius, and developing an appreciation of Torah learning. Through a warm and personal approach, the Yeshiva seeks to imbue every student with the self-confidence and the desire needed to reach greatness in Torah and in the service of Hashem.

mission statement When one decides to attend Yeshivas Torah Ore (YTO), he is not only enrolling himself in a yeshiva, but he finds himself joining a family as well. The Torah Ore family s tradition and history has roots that are steeped in Torah and varmkiet. The name YTO is recognized across the globe as a true makom Torah. Since its inception in 1960, under the leadership of Maran HaGaon Rabbi Chaim Pinchas Scheinberg, zt l, YTO has a reputation of attracting students from around the world. These students are interested in immersing themselves in a serious Torah atmosphere, in Eretz Yisrael, away from the distractions of everyday life. The typical bochur is self-motivated and aspires to develop both his learning and analytical skills, as well as striving to reach new heights in avodas hakodesh. The Torah Ore bochur isn t satisfied with simply being personally impacted, but he also desires to share his passion for learning with others as well.

RELATIONSHIPS RELATIONSHIPS No matter where one finds himself during the course of the year; whether it is in the beis medresh, the dorm, or on one of our trips, one cannot help but feel the sense of camaraderie that envelops him when he is with his family - the other bochrim of Yeshivas Torah Ore. The feeling of friendship that one receives is unparalleled. Bochrim primarily from the United States, Canada, Europe and South Africa, spend the year together, with shared goals in mind. This creates an unbreakable bond. As one lays the corner stone and solidifies his own foundation in avodas Hashem, he realizes that he is not alone in his endeavors. There is an understanding amongst the bochrim that you are not only building your own personal spiritual skyscraper, but together you are building a community, and you are extending the Torah Ore Family. At some point during the year, you realize that the person you are speaking to is not only a chavrusa or a roommate, but he is a friend that will last a lifetime.

RELATIONSHIPS The Yeshiva is the true melting pot where friendships are forged. It is not only about connecting to your peers, but it is also forming a relationship with the hanhallah, your rebbeim, and ultimately Hashem.

THE FAMILY THE FAMILY The Torah Ore family doesn t only reside on Rechov Sorotzkin, its branches are spread throughout the world. When visiting throughout North America, Europe, Australia, South America or South Africa, one will always find a familiar face. Torah Ore Alumni have spread throughout the world, teaching the Rosh HaYeshiva s Torah. Our Alumni are comprised of Roshei Yeshiva, communal rabbonim, Jewish organizational leaders and lay leaders alike. Some of our talmidim have been privileged to devote their entire lives to absorbing Torah within the four walls of the Yeshiva. When entering Yeshivas Torah Ore, one walks upon a well-trodden path, guided by Torah.

THE FAMILY When one experiences his first shacharis with the Rosh HaYeshiva, he realizes that he entered a family. One cannot help but feel that the Rosh HaYeshiva is there to look after each and every member of his family. This fatherly feeling is not only limited to the Rosh HaYeshiva but the other members of the staff as well. As you walk through the hallways of the Yeshiva, although you notice so many different people speaking various languages, everyone is part of the same family. THE FAMILY

TRIPS The trips throughout Eretz Yisrael serve as a unique experience for the bochrim to recharge their batteries and take a moment to relax and enjoy the niflaos haboreh. Throughout the year, the Yeshiva goes on various tours, giving each bochur the opportunity to experience the splendor of the holy land. From a trip to the deserts in the Negev, to skiing on Mount Chermon, no part of the land is excluded. Whether spending Shabbos in the Golan with their favorite rebbe, or meeting some of the greatest Torah Giants alive today in Bnei Brak, everyone has a chance to see what makes Eretz Yisrael such a special place. TRIPS

TRIPS Under the watchful eyes of Rabbi Chaitovsky and Rabbi Orbach, the bochrim get a unique chance to experience various activities here in Eretz Yisrael. From watching the process of wine making in the famous Golan Winery, ATVing in the Judean Hills or jumping down a waterfall in Nachal Yehudiya, Rabbi Chaitvosky is there to help transform an exciting vacation into a meaningful experience. TRIPS

FACULTY The faculty has a unique ability to combine high level shiurim, with the talent to relate to each talmid on his own level. This is a direct reflection of the vision and ideals of the Rosh HaYeshiva, Rabbi Chaim Pinchas Scheinberg, zt l. Rabbi Scheinberg, who was a world renowned Gadol BiYisrael, was recognized for his lomdus, hasmada, and psak halacha. He spent countless hours servicing the public by offering his sagacious advice, listening, and giving brachos to any individual who came to his door. This exceptional ability to sympathize with every individual, no matter what the situation, is part of the legacy that Torah Ore continues, and is reflected in the attitude and approach of each and every rebbe in the Yeshiva. FACULTY The majority of the Torah Ore faculty have been students of Rabbi Chaim Pinchas Scheinberg, zt l, at some point in their learning careers. Now, they have returned home to pass on his message and learning style to the next generation. Being a link in the chain of this mesorah is a unique experience, which is relished by the talmidim. The Yeshiva s faculty consists of some of the brightest, insightful and dynamic talmidei chachamim in chinuch today. From names that are world renowned, to some of the best kept secrets in chinuch, each talmid feels that he has his own personal rebbe here in the yeshiva. Whether discussing the day s learning or seeking advice, a bochur knows that he always has someone to turn to. Here at YTO, a rebbe s job is 24 hours a day. The talmid/rebbe relationship that is forged in our yeshiva is one that lasts a lifetime.

location & facilities Y eshiva Torah Ore is located on its own campus, serving as the heart and pulse of the Mattersdorf neighborhood in Yerushalayim. The campus is a true bastion of Torah, supporting close to 1000 people learning each day. From the Yeshiva Ketana to the Kollel, people from all ages and walks of life frequent the Yeshiva s halls of Torah. One of the highlights of our facility is the beautiful and newly expanded American Beis Medrash. Our dormitory is located within the walls of the Yeshiva, so one is never too far away from the beis medrash. The yeshiva has a student lounge, a weight-room and a local basketball court available for use. Talmidim have a chance to develop relationships with local Anglo residents, many of whom frequent the Yeshiva. These relationships last a lifetime, and play a strong role in the development of our talmidim. With many locals and staff members opening their homes to the talmidim, one gets a true sense of being never too far away from home. location & facilities T he Yeshiva also boasts numerous talmidei chachamim who serve as local community rabbis in many of the English speaking sections of Yerushalyim. Having the opportunity to speak in learning, or attending their shiurim, is just one of the many fringe benefits to avail oneself of here in the Yeshiva. The Yeshiva s prime location and its special surroundings enables each of its students to capture the magnificence and kedusha of Yerushalyim each and every day.

location & facilities Many of the talmidim take advantage of being in Yerushalyim, attending shiurim and shmuesim from some of the greatest Torah Scholars in the world. They have the opportunity to hear shiurim by Rabbi Don Segal and other prominent Roshei Yeshiva. One of the highlights of the yeshiva is the In-Shabbos experience, where one of the rebbeim and his family spend Shabbos together with the Yeshiva. This practice has forged bonds unattainable throughout the week. Whether it be the uplifting divrei Torah, the excitement of the family s small children, or numerous other factors, such Shabbosim offers memories that will be cherished for a lifetime. location & facilities

HISTORY I n Iyar of 1965, Rav Chaim Pinchas Scheinberg, zt l, decided to move his Yeshiva from Bensonhurst, NY to Yerushalayim Ir Hakodesh. The move at the time was unprecedented, and Yeshivas Torah Ore became the first American Yeshiva in Eretz Yisrael. The Rosh HaYeshiva, zt l, had already established himself as a Talmid Chacham and a Gadol in America. Having received his smicha at the age of 19 and then traveling to the Mir in Europe, the Rosh HaYeshiva, zt l, had the opportunity to learn under some of the greatest Torah giants of the previous generation. From Rabbi Shlomo Polachek The Meitschter Ilyui, Rav Shimon Shkop, and Rav Moshe Soloveitchik, to Rav Lazer Yudel Finkel, Rav Yeruchom Levovitz and Rav Yechezkel Levenstien, Rabbi Scheinberg had the unique opportunity to learn under Gedolei Torah on two separate continents. HISTORY I n 1971 what was then an act of recognition of the Rosh HaYeshiva s status as a renowned Posek, he was approached to become the Dayan and Morah Horaya of Kiryas Mattersdorf. Previously such an act was inconceivable, to have an American Rabbi be a Posek of an Israeli neighborhood. Rabbi Scheinberg, zt l, quickly became famous in Eretz Yisrael as a Gadol B Torah. His setting became one with all the Gedolim in Eretz Yisrael and his scholarly wisdom and clear psak was appreciated by all. He earned the respect and appreciation of all the other Gedolei HaDor. The Rosh HaYeshiva s command of the English language and ability to relate to the average American endeared him to the many young Americans who were moving to Eretz Yisrael in the 1970 s. Moreover, he was sought after by the Yerushalmi and overall Israeli population who quickly found their way to his ever open door.

HISTORY In 1964, after a trip to Eretz Yisrael to visit his father s kever and after guidance and encouragement by his father-in-law, Rabbi Yaakov Yosef Herman zt l, the Rosh HaYeshiva, zt l, decided to move Yeshivas Torah Ore to Eretz Yisrael. The Rosh HaYeshiva was not alone when he resolved to make this monumental transition. Accompanying him and his Rebbetzin on their historic move were Rabbi and Rebbetzin Chaim Dov Altusky and Rabbi and Rebbetzin Simcha Scheinberg, along with seven families and twenty bochrim. The Yeshiva was housed temporarily in the Diskin Orphanage, where it was to stay until after the Six Day War. Immediately following the war, preparations got underway to construct a building for the yeshiva in the Mattersdorf section of Yerushalayim. Gedolei Torah and important people were present at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new, now famous location, on Rechov Sorotzkin. Among them was HaGaon HaRav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach zt l, with whom the Rosh HaYeshiva remained close until HaRav Shlomo Zalman s petirah. The Rosh HaYeshiva gave a moving speech which he ended by saying Nedari lahashem ashalem bisochachi Yerushalayim. His commitment to Hashem he will fulfill in the midst of Yerushalayim. With this, he began to fulfill his promise to build the yeshiva in Eretz Yisrael. Today we see the realization of this dream. Yeshivas Torah Ore has developed into a citadel of Torah, which includes a kollel of over 500 yungeleit. However, to this day, the jewel of the Rosh Yeshiva s crown is the American program, the program that gave him the courage and wherewithal to start the Yeshiva. This program continues to fulfill the Rosh HaYeshiva s promise each and every day. HISTORY
