INTRO HE KNOWS MY NAME SUPPLIES NEEDED: A picture of your favourite sports person, hero or celebrity. Share with the children about your favourite sports person, hero or celebrity. Tell the children why you think the person is great and some interesting facts about them. It s easy for me to feel like I know all about people who are famous celebrities. I see them on TV, in magazines and hear about them on the radio. Some celebrities even have books or movies made about them. We can follow their lives on social media or reality TV and feel like we know all about them. The truth is, it s a one way relationship. I may know lots about them but they know nothing about me! They don t even know my name. In fact, I probabbly don t know as much about them as I think, because we don t have a friendship. I only know the highlights of their life, which they choose to show everyone. Some people praise celebrities, but when we praise God, it s a two way relationship. Exodus 33:17 (NIRV), The Lord said to Moses, I will do exactly what you have asked. I am pleased with you. And I know your name. I know all about you. God knows our name and He knows all about us. We can draw near to God and He draws near to us. We praise God because He knows us and loves us. Reminder: This is a great time to play the Big Story video to your group. We find it breaks up your Big Message Live really well and keeps the children focussed. STORYTELLING PSALM 139 SUPPLIES NEEDED: Screen images supplied with print material files. Share today s story of Psalm 139 by asking the children to insert their own name into the passage. David was chosen by God. He was a shepherd, a giant slayer and a mighty warrior. David was the captain of Israel s armies and eventually he became king. What you may not know about David, one of the most famous men in the Bible, is that he was also a poet and a passionate worshipper after God s own heart. He wrote many psalms that are recorded in the Bible, psalms of joy and psalms of sadness, psalms of victory and psalms of defeat. Psalm 139 is one of David s most famous. He was writing about his close personal relationship with God. The psalm shows that God knew him, created him, was with him and had priceless thoughts about him. The same is true for you and me. Our Big Idea today is; You Know Me. God knows every single one of us. Let s read this psalm but instead of saying I or me let s insert our own name. Follow along with the screens and when there is a gap, that s when everyone can say their own name aloud. O Lord, you have examined s heart and know everything about them. You know when sits down or stands up. You know s thoughts even when they re far away. You see when on travel and when home at rest. You know everything does. can never escape from your Spirit! can never get away from your presence! If goes up to heaven, you are there; if goes down to the grave you are there. If ride s the wings of the morning, if dwells by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide, and your strength will support. You created the deepest parts of s being. You put together inside their mother s body. How you made is amazing and wonderful. praise s you for that. God, your thoughts about are priceless. No one can possibly add them all up. If could count them, they would be more than the grains of sand. David praised God because God knew him and wanted to know him. God knew every part of David, what he likes and doesn t like, and the very number of hairs on his head - God knew it all. David was a passionate worshipper, he drew near to God through praise. We can praise God because we are fearfully and wonderfully made. How God made us is amazing and wonderful! You know me, I praise God for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. 3 BIG MESSAGE LIVE 2017 Hillsong Church
OBJECT LESSON YOU KNOW ME SUPPLIES NEEDED: Screen images supplied with print material. Two notepads and two bold markers. Play a game of You Know Me where two friends (or a couple), will see how well one knows the other. Choose a pair of contestants, either two friends that think they know everything about one another, or a married couple who are leaders in your program. Questions will be displayed on the screen. Person A in the pair will write down their answer about themselves and person B in the pair will write down what they think person A s answer will be. The pair will be put to the test to see how much person B really knows about person A. After each question is asked, the pair will hold up their notepads at the same time to show their answers. Encourage the audience to give a big cheer if they get it right. Question 1: What is their middle name? Question 2: What is their favourite movie? Question 3: Which country were they born in? Question 4: What was the last thing they had to eat before this game? Question 5: Where is their favourite place for a holiday? Question 6: What song do they love right now? Question 7: What do they think is their best quality? Question 8: How many hairs are on their head? Our contestants may know a lot (or a little) about each other, but it s pretty much impossible for us to know how may hairs are on one another s head or even our own. God knows us even more than we know ourselves. Matthew 10:30 (NIV) says, And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. God created each one of us special, unique and with a purpose. We can draw near to God as we worship Him. We praise God for we are fearfully and wonderfully made by a God that knows every little detail about us. POINTS 1. PRAISE HIM Share a story of someone singing a song to another person, or borrow mine :) For weeks and weeks my dad had secretly been getting singing lessons. Dad had a big surprise in store for my mum. Every Wednesday he would meet with a jazz singer who would play the piano and teach my dad to sing. He isn t a naturally gifted singer, so he really did need lessons :) At mum s birthday party my dad serenaded her with a love song in front of everyone. It was beautiful, well his singing wasn t, it was beautiful because dad loved mum so much that he would sing to her in front of everyone. Do you think mum minded that he wasn t the best singer? No! Do you think this display of love drew them closer together? YES! We draw near to God when we praise Him. It doesn t matter if you re not a great singer. It doesn t matter if you can t play an instrument. You can praise God and worship Him just as you are and in your own way. Psalm 89:15 (NLT) Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship, for they will walk in the light of your presence, Lord. As you praise and worship God you draw nearer to Him. Your relationship grows and you discover more about Him. When you worship and focus on God you re opening your heart and growing closer and closer to Him. 2. CLOSER THAN YOU KNOW There s a theory that everyone in the world is actually so connected that any two people are just six connections away from each other; we re all actually much closer to each other than we realise. Imagine that, I could be six people away from the Queen of England. What if i m actually a royal prince/ princess and I don t even know it! How well do you know the people around you? How well do you know your best friend, sister or brother? How well do they know you? There is someone who knows you so well, someone who is so close to you that they know everything about you. They re closer even than any best friend or sibling and they know you even better than you know yourself. God! He knows you so well and cares about you so much that He even knows how many hairs are on your head. Matthew 10:30 (NIRV) He even counts every hair on your head! Carefully pull one hair off your head, or pretend to : ) Ouch! Okay God, there s one less now! God created you, loves you and knows everything about you. There s nothing about you that scares God away, there s nothing that makes Him love you any less or any more. He knows everything about you and loves you exactly as you are. 3 BIG MESSAGE LIVE 2017 Hillsong Church
3. I KNOW YOU It s said that Leonardo da Vinci took 12 years just to paint the lips of the famous Mona Lisa painting. A painter may take hours/days/years to make a painting. Layer by layer, colour by colour, masterful stroke by masterful stroke. They know all about their creation. They know every tiny detail. You re God s masterpiece. He made you, He painted every stroke by hand, chose every colour, He created every part of you. God knows everything there is to know about you. Psalm 139:1-6 (CEV) You have looked deep into my heart, Lord, and you know all about me. You know when I am resting or when I am working, and from heaven you discover my thoughts. You notice everything I do and everywhere I go. Before I even speak a word, you know what I will say, and with your powerful arm you protect me from every side. I can t understand all of this! Such wonderful knowledge is far above me. God knows everything about you and is with you always. We praise God because we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:14 (NIV), I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. We draw near to God as we praise Him, we grow closer and closer to our heavenly creator. I praise God for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. 3 BIG MESSAGE LIVE 2017 Hillsong Church
