Dear Colleagues, The Lichfield Diocesan Board of Education (LDBE) currently provides high quality school support within the Lichfield Diocese. We are proud to introduce our revised support agreement offering our church schools, academies, MAT s and community schools the opportunity to access support from our dedicated Christian Distinctiveness Advisory Team and purchase a range of flexible services designed to meet your needs. The support set out in this Service Agreement is delivered by a dedicated team of experienced advisers including those with significant Ofsted, SIAMS and leadership experience. Specialisms within the team (although this is not exhaustive) include: property, religious education, mission, collective worship, Christian distinctiveness and SIAMS. Our team is committed to empowering all diocesan schools to understand and meet the challenges of the Church of England s vision for education, Distinctly Christian: Serving the Common Good, and Bishop Michael s vision for the Diocese of Lichfield, Come follow Christ in the footsteps of St Chad. UR VI Our aim is that all church schools should be at least good schools where children can be offered the richness of experience that the Christian tradition supports. The key strategic priorities of our vision are to: Promote the distinctive Christian character of Church of England schools, and the development of effective parish/school links. Secure the ongoing development of our schools through structural changes, building partnerships; and Our core values are: Accountable to our parishes, schools and the Diocese; and to the DfE and other partners. Foundational building all our plans, priorities and structures on Christ, the Sure Foundation. Formational helping to grow the Church community, so that all can become leaders. Promote the vocation to teach and the professional development of staff including leaders. Secure high standards so that all children and young people can achieve. Provide a strong framework for school improvement and the professional development of school staff and leaders; and Facilitate the systematic expansion of academies and other new educational structures and partnerships. Intentional striving to be the best we can be; being confident of our calling in education. Relational working through partnership, openness to others and mutual support. Missional being outward looking to the communities we serve; proclaiming Jesus as Lord. Sustainable laying roots that will flourish; being mindful of our stewardship of resources. Page 3

SION Our philosophy of education is based on a Trinitarian theology: 1. God the Father (Creation): The establishment of a happy, harmonious and safe community based explicitly on Christian values. Defining/ establishing boundaries and a clear moral framework in which children can flourish. 2. God the Son (Incarnation/Redemption): Modelling Christian values: embodying the distinctive Christian character within the life of the school. Proclaiming God s love for all humanity in the world. Community and Living Well Together COME FOLLOW CHRIST IN THE FOOTSTEPS In addition to our LDBE vision the Church of England has its own vision for education encompassed in the document, Distinctly Christian: Serving the Common Good. The LDBE is committed to empowering all its schools to understand and meet the challenges of this vision which focuses on four key areas. Bishop Michael s vision for the Diocese of Lichfield is to, Come follow Christ in the footsteps of St Chad. This vision has three distinctive areas of focus: 01 Discipleship: Jesus invites us to follow him. The first people who received this invitation became known as Jesus disciples. Being a disciple is a choice to continually walk with Jesus and learn from him, taking his teaching seriously and following his example. 02 Vocation: Every person and each Christian community is called to share in the work of God s Kingdom. Individually and together, we are given gifts and opportunities to serve God and grow the Kingdom. Vocation is knowing who God calls us to be and living the life God invites us to. 03 Evangelism: The Good News of God s love which we have known in Jesus is for all people. Through our words, actions and lives we can share with others Christ s invitation to follow him and to be part of the growing Kingdom of God. Page 5

CHRISTIAN DISTINCTIVENESS SUPPORT Each school and academy is allocated a named Christian Distinctiveness Adviser (CDA) in the first instance to work alongside you to develop the Christian distinctiveness of your school. However our CDA team is flexible and there may be instances that you would receive support from another team member who has a particular specialism that you require support in, for example the RE Today resource, Understanding Christianity or SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican & Methodist Schools). Our CDA team will work alongside school leaders, governors, RE and Collective Worship leads or whoever you feel would benefit from their support. The Core Christian Distinctiveness Service runs from 1 September 2018-31 August 2019. It allows all schools and academies participating to access: 3 half-day visits from a CDA. Training Events delivered by the CDA team. Preferential rates for training provided by external consultants. Resources created by the CDA team. Pastoral support. SIAMS (Section 48) support & understanding the new framework for inspection. Page 6

Our CDA s can offer the following: Audit the school s religious education provision. Conduct a pupil work scrutiny of religious education. Audit collective worship provision, worship areas and areas for reflection around the school. Conduct observations, with a written report, of religious education & the delivery of collective worship. CDA Carry out learning walks with a focus on the school environment and how its Christian distinctiveness is celebrated and promoted. SERVICE Provide professional development training Carry out a pupil voice focusing on their perception of the school as a church school. for example on the resource Understanding Christianity. Audit SMSC provision. IN MORE Conduct a SIAMS audit to highlight current strengths and development points. Audit the SIAMS SEF preparation for a SIAMS inspection. Review the website focusing on how it celebrates and promotes the school s unique foundation as a church school. DETAIL Review church and community collaboration. Provide guidance, training and support to governing bodies or local academy committees. Provide support and guidance in response to local and national directives such as, Deeply Christian: Serving the Common Good, Valuing All God s Children and Bishop Michael s vision, Come follow Christ in the footsteps of St Chad. Bespoke training can be delivered to your staff and governors. Central training courses and updates take place regularly throughout the Diocese. These include aspects relating to current developments and directives from the Church of England Education Office, governance, religious education, SIAMS, collective worship, SMSC and Christian values. How is the service funded? Our Core Christian Distinctiveness Service is subsidised by the Board of Education. This enables all our Church of England schools and academies to access quality support at a competitive price. We recognise the need to provide value for money is especially important at a time when budgets are tight. At the same time schools and academies need to be working with organisations that will provide first class services. The Diocese is well placed to provide services, given the special relationships with our schools and quality of professionals. TERMS OF AGREEMENT Terms of Agreement In consideration of Lichfield Diocesan Board of Education (LDBE) providing the services in accordance with this agreement, the customer agrees to pay the fees and charges to LDBE. The LDBE will raise invoice(s) for services and the customer will pay such invoices within 28 days of the date of each invoice. This Agreement may also be terminated by LDBE with immediate effect if: the customer convenes a meeting of its creditors; the customer shall make a voluntary arrangement within Part 1 of the Insolvency Act 1986 or makes a proposal for any other composition scheme of arrangement with (or The customer may have the option to pay assignment for the benefit of) its creditors; the invoices via Direct Debit in managed stages monthly in arrears subject to LDBE the customer shall be unable to pay its debts written agreement.
