President In the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The Lord be with you and also with you. Alleluia! Christ is risen. He is risen indeed. Alleluia! THE GREETING The president welcomes the people and introduces the liturgy President God our Father, your gift of water brings life and freshness to the earth; in baptism it is a sign of the washing away of our sins and the gift of life eternal. Sanctify this water, we pray. Renew the living spring of your life within us, that we may be free from sin and filled with your saving health; through Christ our Lord. Amen. GLORIA IN EXCELSIS During the singing of the Gloria the people are sprinkled as a reminder of their baptism into Christ which cleanses them from their sins Gloria in excelsis Deo, et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis. Laudamus te, benedicimus te, adoramus te, glorificamus te, gratias agimus tibi propter magnam gloriam tuam, Domine Deus, Rex coelestis, Deus Pater omnipotens. Domine Fili unigenite, Jesu Christe: Domine Deus, Agnus Dei, Filius Patris, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis. Qui sedes ad dexteram Patris, miserere nobis. Quoniam tu solus sanctus, tu solus Dominus, tu solus altissimus, Jesu Christe, cum Sancto Spiritu, in gloria Dei Patris. Amen. Glory be to God on high, and in earth peace, good will towards men. We praise thee, we bless thee, we worship thee, we glorify thee, we give thanks to thee for thy great glory. O Lord God, heavenly King, God the Father almighty. O Lord the only-begotten Son, Jesu Christ, O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us; thou that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us; thou that sittest at the right hand of the Father, have mercy upon us. For thou only art Holy, thou only art the Lord, thou only O Christ with the Holy Ghost art most high in the glory of God the Father. Amen. 4

THE COLLECT Let us pray. O God the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: we beseech you, leave us not comfortless, but send your Holy Spirit to strengthen us and exalt us to the place where our Saviour Christ is gone before, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. A reading from Acts of the Apostles. THE LITURGY OF THE WORD Please sit READING Acts 1.15-17,21-end In those days Peter stood up among the believers (together the crowd numbered about one hundred and twenty people). He said, Friends, the scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit through David foretold concerning Judas, who became a guide for those who arrested Jesus for he was numbered among us and was allotted his share in this ministry. So one of the men who have accompanied us throughout the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us one of these must become a witness with us to his resurrection. So they proposed two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also known as Justus, and Matthias. Then they prayed and said, Lord, you know everyone s heart. Show us which one of these two you have chosen to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place. And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias; and he was added to the eleven apostles. For the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Please stand 5

HYMN 1 Come, let us join our cheerful songs With angels round the throne; Ten thousand thousand are their tongues, But all their joys are one. 2 Worthy the Lamb that died, they cry, To be exalted thus; Worthy the Lamb, our lips reply, For he was slain for us. 3 Jesus is worthy to receive Honour and power divine; And blessings more than we can give Be, Lord, for ever thine. 4 Let all creation join in one To bless the sacred name Of him that sits upon the throne, And to adore the Lamb. Words: Isaac Watts 1674-1748 Music: Nativity NEH 349 Henry Lahee 1826-1912 Please sit SECOND READING 1 John 5.9-13 A reading from the first letter of John. If we receive human testimony, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God that he has testified to his Son. Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony in their hearts. Those who do not believe in God have made him a liar by not believing in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son. And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. For the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. 6

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION Please stand and face the deacon Choir All Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. GOSPEL John 17.6-19 The Lord be with you. And also with you. Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John. Jesus looked up to heaven and prayed: Father, I have made your name known to those whom you gave me from the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now they know that everything you have given me is from you; for the words that you gave to me I have given to them, and they have received them and know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. I am asking on their behalf; I am not asking on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those whom you gave me, because they are yours. All mine are yours, and yours are mine; and I have been glorified in them. And now I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one, as we are one. While I was with them, I protected them in your name that you have given me. I guarded them, and not one of them was lost except the one destined to be lost, so that the scripture might be fulfilled. But now I am coming to you, and I speak these things in the world so that they may have my joy made complete in themselves. I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but I ask you to protect them from the evil one. 7

They do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you have sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, so that they also may be sanctified in truth. This is the Gospel of the Lord. 8 SERMON Please sit After the Sermon silence is kept Let us confess our faith in God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. THE NICENE CREED For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven; was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; Please stand

he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. THE INTERCESSIONS President In the power of the Spirit and in union with Christ let us pray to the Father. Please sit or kneel These responses may be used Lord, in your mercy or Lord, hear us. hear our prayer. Lord, graciously hear us. Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. And at the end 9

THE LITURGY OF THE SACRAMENT Please stand THE PEACE President The risen Christ came and stood among his disciples and said, Peace be with you. Then were they glad when they saw the Lord. Alleluia. The peace of the Lord be always with you and also with you. Let us offer one another a sign of peace. The peace is shared THE PREPARATION OF THE TABLE OFFERTORY HYMN The altar is prepared and bread and wine are placed upon it. During this hymn an offering is received. If you pay tax in the UK, please place your offering in the envelope, remembering to include the details requested on the front of the envelope. Thank you Look, ye saints, the sight is glorious. See the Man of Sorrows now, From the fight returned victorious. Every knee to him shall bow: Crown him! crown him! crown him! crown him! Crowns become the victor s brow. Crown the Saviour; angels, crown him; Rich the trophies Jesus brings; In the seat of power enthrone him, While the vault of heaven rings: Crown him! crown him! crown him! crown him! Crown the Saviour, King of kings! 10

Sinners in derision crowned him, Mocking thus the Saviour s claim; Saints and angels crowd around him, Own his title, praise his name: Crown him! crown him! crown him! crown him! Spread abroad the victor s fame! Hark! those bursts of acclamation, Hark! those loud triumphant chords! Jesus takes the highest station: O what joy the sight affords. Crown him! crown him! crown him! crown him! King of kings and Lord of lords! Words: CP 171 Thomas Kelly 1769-1855 Music: Regent Square NEH 265 Henry Smart 1813-79 The gifts of the congregation and Junior Church are received. The president takes the Bread and the Cup and praises God for his gifts Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation. In your loving care you spread before us the table of life and give us the cup of salvation to drink. Keep us always in the fold of our Saviour and our Shepherd, your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Blessed be God for ever. THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER 11

It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give you thanks, almighty and eternal Father, and in these days of Easter to celebrate with joyful hearts the memory of your wonderful works. For by the mystery of his passion Jesus Christ, your risen Son, has conquered the powers of death and hell and restored in men and women the image of your glory. He has placed them once more in paradise and opened to them the gate of life eternal. And so, in the joy of this Passover, earth and heaven resound with gladness, while angels and archangels and the powers of all creation sing for ever the hymn of your glory: The choir sings Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus Dominus Deus Sabaoth. Pleni sunt coeli et terra gloria tua. Osanna in excelsis. Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini. Osanna in excelsis. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest. 12 Please sit or kneel We praise and bless you, loving Father, through Jesus Christ, our Lord; and as we obey his command, send your Holy Spirit, that broken bread and wine outpoured may be for us the body and blood of your dear Son. On the night before he died he had supper with his friends and, taking bread, he praised you. He broke the bread, gave it to them and said: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me. When supper was ended he took the cup of wine.

Again he praised you, gave it to them and said: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. So, Father, we remember all that Jesus did, in him we plead with confidence his sacrifice made once for all upon the cross. Bringing before you the bread of life and cup of salvation, we proclaim his death and resurrection until he comes in glory. Great is the mystery of faith. Lord of all life, help us to work together for that day when your kingdom comes and justice and mercy will be seen in all the earth. Look with favour on your people, gather us in your loving arms and bring us with all the saints to feast at your table in heaven. Through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, O loving Father, for ever and ever. 13

14 THE LORD S PRAYER President Rejoicing in God s new creation, let us pray with confidence. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD The president breaks the consecrated bread, saying Every time we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord s death until he comes. THE GIVING OF COMMUNION The president invites the people to receive the Holy Communion, saying Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia! Communicant members of all Christian churches are welcome to receive Communion. All who are not communicants are invited to come forward for a blessing. If you wish to receive a blessing, please indicate this by bringing this service sheet with you. Gluten free wafers are available on request. At the distribution the minister says to each communicant: The body of Christ or The blood of Christ The communicant responds Amen, and then receives.

During Communion the Choirs will sing Agnus Dei from Missa Brevis in G (Mozart) and the motet Cantate Domino (Pitoni). MINISTRY OF HEALING The ministry of healing is available this morning. If you would like prayer for yourself or someone else, please go to St Dunstan s Chapel, in the South Transept during the administration of Communion, where one of the clergy and a member of the Pastoral Team will be available to pray with you. Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis, Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis, Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona nobis pacem. Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, grant us your peace. AGNUS DEI Cantate Domino canticum novum; laus ejus in ecclesia sanctorum. Laetetur Israël in eo qui fecit eum, et filii Sion exsultent in rege suo. Sing ye to the Lord a new canticle: let his praise be in the church of the saints. Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: and let the children of Sion be joyful in their king. MOTET Words: Psalm 149.1,2 Music: Giuseppe Pitoni 1657-1743 PRAYERS AFTER COMMUNION Please stand President Let us pray. A moment of silence is kept Almighty God, we thank you for feeding us with the body and blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Through him we offer you our souls and bodies to be a living sacrifice. Send us out in the power of your Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory. Amen. 15

THE DISMISSAL President The God of peace, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the eternal covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well-pleasing in his sight; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. Amen. RECESSIONAL HYMN During the singing of the hymn, the servers, choir and the robed ministers move to the West. Please turn to face them as we are sent to live out our Christian faith in the world. 1 The head that once was crowned with thorns Is crowned with glory now: A royal diadem adorns The mighty victor s brow. 2 The highest place that heaven affords Is his, is his by right, The King of kings and Lord of lords, And heaven s eternal light; 3 The joy of all who dwell above, The joy of all below, To whom he manifests his love, And grants his name to know. 4 To them the cross, with all its shame. With all its grace is given: Their name an everlasting name, Their joy the joy of heaven. 5 They suffer with their Lord below, They reign with him above, Their profit and their joy to know The mystery of his love. 6 The cross he bore is life and health, Though shame and death to him; His people s hope, his people s wealth, Their everlasting theme.
