This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany and the visit of the Magi. The story of the Magi appears only in the Gospel of Matthew.

The Advent wreath in church will grow brighter with each additional candle we light as Christmas draws near.

Transcription:

NOVEMBER 12, 2017 We do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, about those who have fallen asleep, so that you may not grieve like the rest, who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose, so too will God, through Jesus, bring with him those who have fallen asleep. Indeed, we tell you this, on the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will surely not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself, with a word of command, with the voice of an archangel and with the trumpet of God, will come down from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore, console one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians Dear Parishioners and Friends, Included below is a letter from Bishop Matano regarding the tragic loss of life in a Baptist Church in Texas and a statement from the Chair of the Catholic Conference of Bishops. Our hearts and prayers stand in solidarity with our fellow Baptist congregations as they, and we, mourn this very sad event. This Wednesday evening, 65 of our young people will be making their First Reconciliation. Please keep them and their parents in your prayers. Next Spring, most of these same children will be making their First Holy Eucharist. On behalf of our Faith Formation Director Anita Wagner, and myself, we wish to thank the parents of these children for taking an active role in their sacramental journey of faith and making it a priority for our young folks. Our Parish directory needs your picture! There is NO COST to have your picture taken. By participating, you are helping us put together a new Parish Pictorial Directory. Just for having your picture taken you will receive a FREE Directory and a FREE 8 x10 photo. Please call the parish office at 671-1100 and speak with Julie at ext. 13 or Elizabeth at ext. 14 to schedule a time to have your picture taken. You can also do this online. See the bulletin for details. May God bless you this week! Fr. Gonyo * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, I join with my brother Bishops in echoing the sentiments expressed below in the statement by Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo, president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, regarding the victims of the tragic Texas church shootings. I ask that you pray for all the victims, their families and the first-responders, as well as victims of recent mass violence in New York City, our nation and throughout the world. + The Most Reverend Salvatore R. Matano STATEMENT OF CARDINAL DINARDO "Earlier today, we heard of the mass shooting at the Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. With Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, I extend my prayers and the prayers of my brother bishops for the victims, families, first responders, our Baptist brothers and sisters, and the whole community of Sutherland Springs. We stand in unity with you in this time of terrible tragedy as you stand on holy ground, ground marred today by horrific violence. We ask the Lord for healing of those injured. His loving care of those who have died and the consolation of their families. This incomprehensibly tragic event joins an ever-growing list of mass shootings, some of which were also at Churches while people were worshipping and at prayer. We must come to the firm determination that there is a fundamental problem in our society. A Culture of Life cannot tolerate, and must prevent, senseless gun violence in all its forms. May the Lord, who Himself is Peace, send us His Spirit of charity and nonviolence to nurture His peace among us all."
