NOVEMBER 22, 2015 Dear Parishioners and Friends; "The Lord is king; he is robed in majesty. Psalm 93 This weekend we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. In the midst of the terrible troubles we face in our world, we must always strive to orient ourselves towards Jesus. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, intends to restore a broken humanity to himself. Jesus brings forth a new kingdom, a "kingdom of truth and life, a kingdom of holiness and grace, a kingdom of justice, love and peace. The Gospels are called the "Good News" because they tell us how Jesus establishes his kingdom in the present age and will bring it to fulfillment for both the living and the dead. Our Good Shepherd is unlike any other. Let us draw near to him and offer ourselves, and our many troubles, to him. Let us not ignore his tender invitation to receive him in the Holy Eucharist and guide our children to do the same. On Thanksgiving Day of this week, we will have mass at 9:00am instead of the usual 8:15am. We will have a table set up in the center aisle for any breads or pies people would like blessed for their Thanksgiving table. Next Sunday, the 29 th of November, we begin the season of Advent and the start of the new Church year by lighting our first Advent Candle. Please be sure to take a Blue Book in Church which has daily reflections and readings to help us on our Advent journey. Children s Advent books are available as well. May God bless you! Fr. Gonyo * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * PARISH OFFICE HOURS THIS WEEK Sign Up to Monday & Tuesday Wednesday 9:00am 4:30pm 9:00am Noon The Parish Offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 26 & 27 for the Thanksgiving Holiday LIGHT THE ADVENT WREATH Next Sunday, November 30 th is the 1 st Sunday of Advent. This service originated in 1918 at King s College Chapel in Cambridge, England, where it has been broadcast around the world every year since. The service tells of the events leading up to the birth of Jesus, with short scripture readings interspersed with hymns and carols. St. Rita choirs participating will be the Adult Choir, Children s Choir, Lite Choir, and Contemporary Group. Come and celebrate the festive music of the season! The service is free and is followed by a reception. St. Rita School Spirit of Learning Corner Did you know?... + St. Rita School students wear uniforms every day. They look great! Sometimes they get the option to wear something different like during Catholic Schools Week and after the MARATHON. The Marathon is our main school fundraiser where the kids walked miles to raise money, each child who raised even one pledge was given a dress down day. They enjoyed that last week. + This coming week we have parent teacher conferences. The teachers are hard at work meeting with every parent and discussing the progress of the students. In thanks, the parents make homemade pies for the teachers and staff, who are able to each take one home for Thanksgiving week. THANK YOU TO OUR TEACHERS for all of your hard work and dedication to the children and the school! Happy Thanksgiving! Save the Date!
