Position Description FBC MISSION STATEMENT Friendship Baptist Church is a church where Christ is magnified; through individually and collectively presenting ourselves to Christ as a living and holy offering. Job Classification: FLSA Status: Reports To: Department: Hours: FT Exempt Senior Pastor Student and Family Ministries Tuesday-Sunday (40+ hours Flexible based on church activities) GENERAL SUMMARY: Reporting to the Executive Pastor, the Student and Family Minister is responsible for the development and execution of a comprehensive program for Christian growth of children and youth ages birth through 12 th grade. The position will develop and implement teaching, recruit and train youth leaders, and provide support systems that will enable Friendship Baptist Church (FBC) to reach, disciple, and inspire children and youth to live as fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. The Student and Family Minister serves as a spiritual leader and role model in the church and community. The position plays a key role in worship service, discipleship, mission and outreach. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Students and Family Christian Development Work with the Executive Pastor to provide a balanced approach to the planning, selection, organization, coordination and leadership of the Christian education curriculum, programs, activities and events, and worship services for the children and families. Assess and identify the needs of all children and youth within the church family and larger community to which the church ministers. Page 1 of 6

Collaborate with Executive Staff and ministry leaders to develop a strategy to build upon the curriculum and activities for preschoolers, children, and youth that will assist in their Christian growth and discipleship development. In collaboration with the Director of Christian Education and Discipleship, design programs aimed at the integration of parent insight and the development of strong parent-leader relationships. Oversee all children and youth activities including but not limited to weekday Bible study, Sunday school class, Children's church, discipleship training, outreach, fellowship, missions education, music, and other related Christian education activities. Under the leadership and Direction of the Senior Pastor, develop a strategic plan of action for onsite and offsite events and activities such as Youth Day, retreats, camping trips, mission trips, seminars, banquets, and other related seasonal programs and events that provides spiritual growth. Ensures music selection, development of messages/teaching, utilization of games and other artistic elements serve to inspire and encourage attendees to develop a relationship with Christ. Coordinate with the Senior Pastor, Director of Christian Education, Executive Director of Business Affairs, and all Ministry leaders to build, unify, and support our children and youth through conjoining ministry activities (i.e., Youth Sunday, Children's Christmas programs, graduation, or volunteer recognition). Ensure that the children and youth ministries are providing biblical instruction in agreement with the mission and philosophy of the church. Assess the effectiveness of ministry activities and programs; make revisions as needed to enhance spiritual growth and social achievement. Minister to provide wise and godly counsel to families of young children; empowering them to grow in their Christian discipleship through the teaching ministries and biblical foundation. Preach, teach, and/or lead worship as needed. Volunteer Development Develop a strategy and lead an effort to increase adult volunteer participation in children and youth activities. Recruit, train, and develop volunteer leadership teams made up of parents and members with a calling to work with children and youth. Partner with the Executive Director Business Affairs and Director of Christian Education and Discipleship to develop training tools to assist Children and Youth leaders with recruiting and training other ministry volunteers. Provide guidance and direction to the enlisting, training, and development of volunteers as needed to staff children and youth's ministry events and activities. Member, Visitor, and Community Relationship Provide leadership in welcoming and integrating new and existing church members and visitors. Maintain a strategy for reaching and assimilating new children and families into the broader life of the church. Design, plan, and conduct periodic parent meetings in order to meet the needs and expectations of families attending the church. Perform a monthly/quarterly assessment of Bible Study and worship service attendance of children and youth. Work with Membership Services Administrator to contact members who at risk of becoming inactive members. Page 2 of 6

Create a strategy to develop an effective social media presence for the youth ministry. Leverage social media as a tool of connecting and engaging with the youth at their generational level, within their age context and communication channels. Ensure social media communication is professional and within guidelines set forth by church by-laws and the Senior Pastor. Provide communication for children, youth, the congregation, and the community through newsletters, newspapers, church website, bulletin boards, etc., in conjunction with the Administrative arm of the church. Partner and build relationships with parents/guardians, local schools and colleges, churches and community organizations to be a champion for children and youth. Serve as an ambassador for children and youth. Implement a strategic plan of action to reach out to the community to share the church's biblical principles. Participate in community events opportunity to give of service, minister to unbelievers of Christ, and invite non-members to worship service and bible study. Work with the Outreach Ministry to engage the children and youth as part of their spiritual growth. Serve as a source of spiritual support to children, families, volunteers, and staff. Model spiritual vitality and accountability. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: General Administration Implement student registration, program management, and security policies and practices in support of weekly services, events, and activities. Maintain and enforce all policies related to safe environments including, but not limited to background checks, preventing harassment (sexual and non-sexual), privacy and confidentiality, and the like. Partner with the Senior Pastor, Finance Manager to develop an annual budget which supports the children and youth ministries. Manage annual spending to budget. Function as a member of the church's Pastoral Staff performing baby dedications, baptism services, weddings, funerals, etc. as assigned. Perform an assessment of facilities, training space and locations prior to children and youth activities and events. Partner with the Executive Director of Business Affairs and Facilities Manager on safety hazards and maintenance needs that must be addressed. Ensure proper supplies and training materials available and maintained for ministry activities. Communicate needs for ordering supplies to the Senior Administrative Assistant. Attend staff meetings and other meetings directed by the Senior Pastor, and or Executive Pastor. Provide written and/or verbal reports and presentations when necessary. Perform all other duties as needed, required, or directed. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Student Minister will supervise, and provide leadership and training to the Children Ministry Coordinator, and or Family Ministry Specialist and volunteers, who will assist in implementing effective ministry programming and opportunities. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Further, qualified individuals must be member of Friendship Baptist Church or willing to become a member. EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Theology, Education, Psychology, or its equivalent from an accredited institution; a minimum of 2 4 years of experience working with children and youth in a Christian environment, social services or education. Supervisory experience preferred. LICENSING / CERTIFICATION Licensed and/or Ordained Minister preferred. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: MATH ABILITY Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. COMPUTER SKILLS Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, Presentation Software (PowerPoint), Outlook, Access, Database systems, Internet Software and Design Software. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
