THE CORNER MAR 11 2018 Laetare Sunday On Laetare Sunday, we have in the middle of Lent a day to share hope and joy. Before we start Holy Week, which is a time of darkness and sadness, we have a little boost to get us to Easter. The priests wear their rose vestments, and we prepare for the last chances to repent before Easter. One interesting practice that I thought I d share is that there used to be a practice of visiting mother church on Laetare Sunday. Mother church signifies the cathedral. It also used to be a day to honor mothers in England, like our Mother s Day. People would celebrate by making a Simnel cake. Check out our Facebook post for the recipe and try it for a wonderful family celebration after you visit the cathedral. Amen? Amen! EASTSIDE FAITH 4 I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly. John 10:10 A Gospel Reflection by Father Jason Williams JOHN 3:14-21 God sent his Son so that the world might be saved through him. We continue to accompany Jesus on the royal way of the Cross, firm in our hope that after Lent and Good Friday Christ will rise and that we will share in the grace of the Resurrection. Christ is our true life, because only he frees us from the grip of sin and death. Looking upon the Son of Man as he is lifted up on the Cross fills us with grace as we contemplate the depth and expanse of God s love for us. The Cross and Resurrection of Christ serve as the lens through which we view all that happens in our lives and in the world. Jesus is the true light, and just as without physical light we cannot see the things around us, so without the light of Christ, we cannot see the workings of God s grace. We can think back on Jesus encounter with the man born blind and consider how great the gift of physical sight was for that man. For us, too, the gift of spiritual sight through faith is an incredible blessing. As we approach the Easter mysteries may we ask God for the grace to remove from our lives those obstacles our sins and faults that prevent the light of Christ from shining upon us and from being an effective aid to our life in this world. May we be as clear panes of glass through which the radiant light of Christ may shine through us and warm the hearts of those God places in our paths. Credo (I Believe) The Season of Lent, Part II Each time we enter a Catholic Church, we bless ourselves with holy water. Making the sign of the cross, we remember that we are baptized into the life of the Trinitarian God. We believe in one God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit living a perfect communion of love. Our fidelity to baptism s grace draws us more and more into that divine communion of love. Through the Risen Christ, we become more divine by becoming more the person God created us to be. Baptism is not only a great gift from God for each of us personally. Our baptism is a gift to all humanity. We are not baptized only for ourselves. We are baptized for others. In fact we are baptized for all people. Our baptism commits each and all of us to help others come to know the great divine love in the Lord Jesus Christ. As we continue to journey through this Lenten season together, let us never forget why we were baptized. Next time you enter the church and bless yourself with holy water, remember the great responsibility each of us has; to go forth letting the light of Christ shine through our daily lives, so that Christ can work through us to allow his divine life blood into the lives of others. Be a man. What it means to be a true Christian man in today s society. The 2018 Catholic Men s Conference on April 28 at The Taft Theatre Speakers include: Father Mitch Pacwa, Father Larry Richards, Bas Rutten, and Coach Gerry Faust Visit CincinnatiMensConference.com for more info and to purchase tickets. Fr. Timothy Fahey is the Parochial Vicar at St. Margaret of York Church in Loveland. He was ordained in 2016 within a critically acclaimed class of 7 men. He enjoys hiking, camping, woodworking, and books about war. He d like to have a dog someday, but right now it s just not in the cards. He enjoys telling stories and jokes, neither very convincingly. He s not afraid of spiders, but is afraid of the spiders you can t see. They re the ones you have to watch out for. That and hornets. Join us on Wednesday, March 14, at 8 PM at Cellar at Oakley Wines (4011 Allston St.) as Fr. Tim talks about sharing your faith with your friends who may not have any themselves, and not lose them as friends in the process.

Sacred Heart Radio. 89.5 FM & 740 AM RCIA: Meet Your Catechumens & Candidates WHITLEE GOODE Favorite Bible Verse: Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell and great was its fall. Our own Nathan Beiersdorfer (photo 1) was one of the 23. Bishop Roger Foys was the presider, and I was a concelebrant. Acolytes assist priests and deacons, preparing the altar and sacred vessels, and when necessary, serving as extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion at Mass. It was a beautiful Mass, and I was happy to be there to support Nathan as he continues his diaconate journey. 1 NEW BABIES! We have two new babies born in our parish and to two of our busy moms from our St. Cecilia Moms Group! Charles Paul Watson (photo 2) was born on Feb. 23 at 8lb. 7oz. to Rob and Nicole Watson. They have three other children. Also, our Pastoral Council Chair, Jason Hemak, and his wife, Holly, who is the chair of our Moms Group, welcomed their third child, John Fulton Hemak (photo 3). He was born on Feb. 26 at 9lbs. 5oz. Both babies and mothers are doing very well. 1 WELCOME, CHILD OF GOD: Welcome, Walker Odam, son of Jeffrey and Suon Polly (photo 4). Walker was baptized Feb. 25. 1 PINTS WITH PRIESTS: I was the kickoff speaker for our Young Adult Lenten series, Pints with Priests. There was a great turnout, and I enjoyed discussing the importance of the parts of the Mass with the young adults (photo 5). I appreciate the feedback and emails I received. I want to thank Sarah Rose for getting this together and finding a neat venue, Oakley Wines. 1 LENTEN MISSION WITH FR. EARL FERNANDES: We had a very successful Lenten mission with my good friend Fr. Earl (photo 6). We will have the talks on the web page soon for those of you who didn t make it or who would like to hear them again. It was very enriching, and I was glad to see people from all different parishes attend. What a great way to go through Lent this year, having heard such a wonderful mission and having had a chance for confession. Thank you to Cody Egner for putting this together. A big thank-you also to Msgr. Lane, Fr. Sunberg, and Fr. Jason for taking the time to hear confessions at our The Light Is on for You evening. 5 6 Photo courtesy of Gail Finke
