HOW STUDYING THE BIBLE TEACHING SERIES TO STUDY THE BIBLE

WHY STUDY THE BIBLE

1. The Bible is a Collection of Books Written by approximately 40 different authors who lived in a span of 1500 years. God himself worked through all of the writers through the years. 1 Peter 1:23 3

2. The Bible is the Inspired Word of God God controlled the writers as they wrote. Every word was inspired by God, and came out of God s heart. The Bible reveals God s thoughts and plans for man. 2 Timothy 3:16, 17 4

3. The Bible is the Inerrant Word of God The Bible comes out of God s mind. There is no mistake or contradiction found in the scriptures. God doesn t make a mistake! Proverbs 30:5, 6; John 17:17. 5

Any apparent contradiction indicates our own limitations to comprehend the things of God and in most cases are the result of our prejudices, preferences and misinterpretation. The basic principle of Bible interpretation is to see the scripture in its context. Isaiah 34:16 6

4. The Bible is the Infallible Word of God Every promise in the Bible is yes and yes. It will come to pass as it has already been proved. The Bible is trustworthy and reliable. Psalm 19:7; 1 Peter 1:24, 25 7

5. The Bible is the Authoritative Word of God The word of an ordinary man and a government official are different. The man of authority speaks words of authority. God the Almighty, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords has spoken through the pages of the Bible. We can not neglect it. Isaiah 1:2; Amos 3:8; Galatians 1:8; 3:10 8

6. The Bible is the Unchanging Word of God God never changes as man. God s Word never changes in any circumstance. He needs no correction or improvement. His knowledge is perfect. The Word of God is settled in heaven for ever. Matthew 24:35; 5:18; Isaiah 40:8; Psalm 119:89 9

7. The Bible is the Complete Word of God The Bible reveals that God who spoke to forefathers little by little has chosen to reveal everything through His son Jesus Christ. Hebrews 1:1 3 He has revealed everything that God wanted to make known to man. 10

Things to do with present and future, every issue of man, every question and doubts are adequately addressed in the sacred writings. We don t need to go elsewhere for divine revelation on any thing pertaining to our life today or tomorrow. Seek the word of God. 11

There is nothing else to be added, in fact, Jesus very clearly warned against doing so. Revelation 22:18, 19 12

8. The Bible is the Effective Word of God The Word of God is very effective in the lives of anyone who approaches it humbly and prayerfully. Millions will shout for the glory of God to declare how much blessed they are because of the Bible. 13

It produces unparalleled transformation, hope, and peace in our hearts. Try and see what the Bible can do for you. 2 Timothy 3:16, 17; Isiah 55:11 14

Four Functions of the Bible: (2 Timothy 3:16, 17) 1. Teaches doctrine what s right, which way we should go. 2. Reminds when we err or go astray reproof. 15

3. Takes us back to the right path correction. 4. Leads us through the right path instruction. 16

There are many Bible references where we see about the usefulness of the word of God. 1 Peter 2:1, 2; 1 John 2:14; Psalm 119:11, 38, 99, 105; Romans 15:4; 1 Thes. 4:18; Heb. 4:12; Jeremiah 23:29; 1 Peter 1:23 17

9. The Bible Demands Diligent Study The Bible is not just a religious instrument to be kept reverently in a sacred place. Keeping the Bible as show-piece will not bring any benefit. Revelation 1:3; 22:7; 1 Thess. 4:3; 2Timothy 2:15; Acts 2:42; Joshua 1:8; Psalm 1:2; Acts 17:11 18

7 BENEFITS OF SYSTEMATIC BIBLE STUDY

1. Enjoy and experience the benefits. 2. Understand the word correctly in its context. Luke 10:26; 8:18. Most false teaching begins from interpreting the word out of context. 20

3. Understand the whole revelation of God. God spoke in time past to our forefathers little by little. Hebrews 1:1, 2; Isaiah 34:16. 21

4. Teach the word of correctly. 2 Timothy 2:15 5. Know the Lord Jesus Christ more intimately. Luke 24: 44, 45 22

6. Be successful and fruitful in our efforts. Joshua 1:8; Psalm 1:3 7. Our time spent with the word of God is an investment for eternity. Luke 10:42; John 6:27 23

The most important book that every individual must read is the word of God. 24
