Lenten regulations are as follows: 1. Catholics who have celebrated their 14th birthday are to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, all Fridays in Lent, and Good Friday. 2. In addition to abstaining from meat, Catholics who have celebrated their 18th birthday, until they celebrate their 59th birthday, are to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Those who are bound to this regulation may eat only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength according to one s needs, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted. MURPHY HALL AND RESTROOMS Murphy Hall and Restrooms construction is in progress, please excuse the inconvenience. Take a moment and go down and look at the outstanding transformation! ANNOUNCEMENTS LENT STATIONS OF THE CROSS AND SOUP SUPPER Please join us every Friday of Lent at 5:15 p.m. for Stations of the Cross with a soup supper follow in Murphy Hall. If you are interested in making a soup for one of the nights, please contact Natalie at: natalieelskamp@gmail.com or 608-843-9443. MANY HANDS - LIGHT WORK Your help is needed. Each week the small Altar linens need to be laundered. With enough volunteers a rotating schedule will be set up to share this service to the parish. Not sure how to do them? An informational training session is available. For more information please call Maria, at the Rectory, Phone: 608-782-7557. Thank you FROM OUR MUSIC DIRECTOR Have you been thinking about joining the choir? As we begin new music for Lent and Easter, now would be a great time! Each week we try to focus on meaningful music that support and illustrate the readings of the day. Rehearsals are every Sunday morning at 8:00 am in the Providence School Library with occasional Saturday choir workshops to prepare for the extra Masses during holy seasons. We welcome everyone with a desire to serve the parish and share their talents. Has God been prompting you? PARISH MEAL TRAIN The Family Life Committee is seeking volunteers willing to participate in a meal train program for parishioners when the need arises. If you would be willing to participate in this program and support members of the parish family in this way, please email Diane Olson dianemarieevelyn@yahoo.com and you will be added to the Parish Meal Train list. Thank you for showing your love in this tangible (edible) way to our parish family! Sometimes I want to ask God why He allows poverty, famine and injustice in the world when He could do something about it, but I m afraid He might just ask me the same question. Please welcome our new parishioners to the Parish Family of St. James the Less Jason and Allison Sauppe + SACRAMENTS + Requiescat in Pace A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Tyler Dennis John Nagel on Friday, February 9, 2018. Our entire parish family of St. James extends its sympathy and promise of prayers to Max, Nicole, siblings, and all family and friends. THANK YOU! Our heartfelt gratitude and thanks to Karla Korish for her many hours of service as money counter for our parish. May God Bless you greatly. Shroud of Turin Exhibit The Shroud of Turin Exhibit will be on display at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe Easter Thursday (April 5th) through Divine Mercy Sunday (April 8th). An informational presentation will be given each day at a scheduled time. There is no cost. A free-will offering will be accepted. Further details will become available on our website: http://www.guadalupeshrine.org/events/holy-shroudexhibit A SACRED MUSIC CHALLENGE Beginning with Ash Wednesday, and continuing through Lent and the Easter season, our parish will be learning the Missa de Angelis in our liturgy. While this Mass had been one of the most popular and well known chant settings, it may be new for many. Don t worry! You will have a pew card and the aid of our choir and cantors! In A Dictionary of Music and Musicians it says that while the Missa de Angelis would seem to be by no means the oldest Mass of this class now in use, its antiquity is great enough to have obliterated all trace of its history, and even of the origin of the name by which it is now generally designated, and under which it is perhaps more frequently sung than any other Mass of its kind, both in its original form, and in the English translation We don t know a composer, we don t know its history we only know that Catholics have loved and sung this setting for centuries and now we can be a part of that too.
"This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the Gospel. Lent is the season, Jesus is the reason. "REMEMBER, AS WE SEE IN SUNDAY S GOSPEL: SATAN DOES NOT COME DRESSED IN A RED CAPE AND POINTY HORNS. HE COMES AS EVERYTHING YOU EVER WISHED FOR.
