When they witness the miraculous change in Jesus' appearance, the disciples become "fully awake." What is the message in this story for you?
Good News travels Jesus said, It is written in the prophets: They shall all be taught by God. Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me. John 6:45 THURSDAY, AUGUST 9 St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross(1891-1942) FRIDAY, AUGUST 10 St. Lawrence(d. 258) WHAT'S THE WORD? In next Sunday's Gospel, Jesus' interaction with the crowd left them with some serious questions about Jesus' grasp of reality. How could this man be the "bread of life"? The "living bread"? Rejecting the unknown, the different, results in a lost opportunity to learn from them. Jesus spent his life teaching, and his message was different, sometimes radical. ENRICH MY SPIRIT Looking back at my life, I know God has taught me to LORD JESUS, I PRAY... Good News travels As it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah: Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill shall be made low. The winding roads shall be made straight, and the rough ways made smooth, and all flesh shall see the salvation of God. Luke 3:4a, 5-6; Isaiah 40:45 THURSDAY, DECEMBER 6 St. Nicholas (died c. 350) FRIDAY, DECEMBER 7 St. Ambrose (340-397) Pearl Harbor Remembrance SATURDAY, DECEMBER 8 The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Gospel: Luke 1:26-38) Holy Day of obligation WHAT'S THE WORD? Modern 4-wheel-drive vehicles may have no problem navigating the rough, dry, mountainous terrain in Jesus part of the world, but Isaiah s words still have a message for us today. Is there anything you can do to contribute to the fulfillment of Isaiah s prophecy? How will your life announce the salvation of God? ENRICH MY SPIRIT When I speak to others about Jesus, I want them to know LORD JESUS, I PRAY... May words and actions reflect your love for all of creation. Amen. I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work in you will continue to complete it until the day of Christ Jesus. Now read it again and put yourself in the place of the women who arrived at the tomb. What kinds of questions do you think they might have had? Are you as convinced as they were that Jesus has risen? Why or why not?
Good News travels [The women] found the stone rolled away from the tomb; but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were puzzling over this, behold, two men in dazzling garments appeared to them. Luke 24:2-4 THURSDAY, APRIL 18 Thursday of Holy Week (Holy Thursday) FRIDAY, APRIL 19 Friday of the Passion of the Lord (Good Friday) WHAT'S THE WORD? The women who went to Jesus tomb on Easter Sunday were puzzled to see the giant stone had been moved away from the entrance, and Jesus body was gone. Two men in dazzling garments delivered the news that Jesus was alive, reminding them that Jesus himself had predicted this event. Peter, of course, had to see for himself. Jesus rose from the dead, a fact that transcends all human explanation. ENRICH MY SPIRIT I think the most puzzling thing about Jesus death is SATURDAY, APRIL 20 Holy Saturday LORD JESUS, I PRAY... You have risen, Lord Jesus. My heart is filled with joy. Amen. Make time to think about all the events surrounding the Resurrection. How have these events affected your life?
Good News travels Jesus came and stood in their midst and said [to the disciples], Peace be with you. When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. John 20:19b-20 THURSDAY, APRIL 25 Thursday within the Octave of Easter FRIDAY, APRIL 26 Friday within the Octave of Easter WHAT'S THE WORD? Sunday s Gospel story takes place on Easter Sunday, the first day of the week. Before Jesus' appearance, the apostles weren't sure what they believed. Although Thomas gets the blame for doubting Jesus is truly alive, all the apostles were doubters until they saw Jesus in their midst, a genuine reason for rejoicing. They all spent the rest of their lives sowing that faith in a world of doubt no matter what the cost. ENRICH MY SPIRIT The most joyful thing about Easter is because SATURDAY, APRIL 27 Saturday within the Octave of Easter LORD JESUS, I PRAY... When I am doubtful and afraid, strengthen my faith. Amen.
