Kundalini T R A I N I N G P L A N from BRETT LARKIN
WELCOME TO THIS MONTH S EXPLORATION OF KUNDALINI YOGA. Kundalini is INTENSE! (at least...that s been my experience, lol.) Pending where you are at in your practice and life, right now may be the perfect time to dive into your Kundalini exploration, or you may want to opt-out. Remember, you DO NOT have to do the assigned class calendar plan for each month to be in resonance with our group. The monthly guides are an offering. Uplifted is about us all being together in our personal practice. I know some of you love the structure of the monthly plans. Others of you love to self-design. Different guides, plans, guest experts, books and topics will resonate with you each at different times. Trust your own process. YOU are your own best healer/teacher/classpicker. Uplifted exists to provide you with support in the exploration of this truth. In honor of that, I m now including a *new* Member- Only Healing Routine each month on the theme of accessing our intuition. TRUST yourself in how you want to move through this month. Onward! Brett
WHAT IS KUNDALINI YOGA? WHERE IS IT FROM Kundalini Yoga has its roots in the Tantric Yoga tradition, which dates back to the eighth century. The founder of Kundalini Yoga in the West is Yogi Bhajan (born in 1929, now deceased). HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM HATHA OR VINYASA YOGA? Kundalini Yoga incorporates repetitive movements (think twisting left to right over-and-over-again), pranayama (or breath work), meditation, and chanting mantras (like Sat Nam - truth is my identity) for a prolonged period of time to shift our consciousness. Unlike Vinyasa yoga where we warm up, flow through Warrior Poses linking breath and movement, and cool down into forward folds and Savasana, Kundalini yoga is very structured. The repetitive movements and accompanying breath work is precise (e.g. perform 42 squats inhaling with your head to the right and exhaling with your head to the left). The duration of how long you do each movement in a sequence is also very precise. These set, Kundalini sequences of movement, breath and mantra are called kriyas. These were designed by Yogi Bhajan, and are never altered or changed. This is because these kriyas direct your subtle body energy to stimulate the nervous system and glandular system in a precise way. Some Kundalini kriyas will leave you blissed out with a profound sense of calm, clarity and joy. Others, will trigger you. Keep in mind Kundalini Yoga is called the Yoga of Awareness. It is designed to slay your ego and trigger you. If you find the exercises confronting (or you don t want to do 42 frog squats in a row and begin to get tired, angry, frustrated), this is precisely the point. Kundalini Yoga shows you how you react when in a difficult situation. It s supposed to hold up a mirror to how your react to difficult situations in life. As one of my Kundalini Yoga teacher s puts it:
As one of my Kundalini Yoga teacher s puts it: I use my Vinyasa practice as way to work out kinks in my body and feel centered. My Kundalini practice is a place of transformation. The kriyas push you systematically into a state of greater awareness.
KEY THINGS TO KNOW: 1 3 2 Come to Kundalini prepared for an energetic shift: This might be a massive, positive, light-filled awakening or an angry meltdown. Keep in mind that this practice is designed to trigger you. If you feel triggered by the exercises, try to step into the role of the observer and witness your reactions. (Also, feel free to STOP). Know you re not doing anything wrong if you get stirred up. Alignment still matters: Chanting is optional: You do not have to chant. You may opt to sit, listen and absorb. You will still receive the benefits. Please listen to both this podcast and the Uplifted Member-Only Podcast for much more detailed information, & Just because we re not doing Warrior 1 and 2, it doesn t mean you can do these exercises however you want. Try to perform them with correct alignment. We have hundreds of mini-chakras throughout our whole body and Kundalini kriyas work systematically to wake them up. So if I say, arms out at 45 degrees, *really* try to be at 45 degrees. as well as my personal story of how Kundalini affected me when I first explored it.
MANTRAS WE LL BE USING Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo Translation: I bow to the divine teacher within t(i am my own best teacher, I bow to my own intuition) Sat Nam Translation: Truth is my identity Ong So Hung Translation: I am connected to creative consciousness (or the universe/god/my higher power and I are connected, we are one )
