2015 J. Chad Barrett Quotes may be used to inspire others to simply and relentlessly trust our God who is bigger. :) #ThriveNotJustSurvive #InspiredByKristina 4

Introduction Jesus, Himself, said truth sets us free. Of course, He was referring to Himself as the Truth. When our family struggled through the four-year journey of our daughter's cancer, we learned to keep our minds fixed on God's Truth which is positive and uplifting. Actually, we're still learning this. His Word truly sets us free of fear and worry. of doubt and misery. As I listen to music, read a book, or meditate on Scripture, thoughts come to my mind. Writing out these thoughts has helped me process pain. And it also helped to put these thoughts on social media daily. God continues to use the comments of so many gracious people to mend our broken hearts. So I ve been chewing on one thought each day. In this booklet are many of those thoughts you can chew on, too one for each day of the week for 12 weeks. I pray they encourage you as they do us to simply and relentlessly trust in our God who is bigger as we fix our minds on Truth. It s the only way to thrive, not just survive. 5

Week One 1. God's grace kills negativity. It destroys bitterness. It takes captive the weak mind and replaces it with power that will not fail. I repeat--his grace does not fail. 2. Life. It's not about surviving. It's not about feeling good or at least better. It's about trusting the God of love and power. Only then will we live real life. Only then will begin to thrive. 3. It's OK to limp on your journey. Pain is a part of this side of eternity. In fact, when we trust in His goodness and grace toward us, pain really enables us to thrive It's then that we begin to see a little deeper into His grace. 4. Don't stop with "I can do all things," and fail to embrace the rest of the verse. 6

5. When the soul of a mere human humbly trusts in the God of the universe, a heavy fear settles on the darkness. 6. There is nothing so dark that may come your way that God's truth cannot disperse. Nothing so painful that God's love cannot heal. Nothing so twisted that God's justice cannot fix. No heart so heavy that His grace cannot uplift. 7. I've been in the valley, and I expected pitch black. But instead it became brighter than day. It was the grace of God shining through the hearts of His people. 7

Week Two 1. I think God is more concerned about us trusting Him fully than He is relieving our pain. 2. Could His grace be that amazing? Could I welcome that much good into my life despite my failures? Yes, I can. That's precisely what grace is. 3. Consider the match. It has great potential to be useful. All it needs is a little friction. 4. You can worry why God would allow this. Or you can thrive in His grace while going through this. 8

5. Jesus loves me just as I am, in all my unholiness. But He loves me too much to leave me here. He wants to deliver me out of my darkness and set my feet high on the rock 6. Abraham took one step at a time walking up the mountain with Isaac. God told him to simply trust Him and to keep stepping. 7. God does give us more than we can handle, but He doesn't give us a worthless trial. 9

Week Three 1. Going through storms of life can be painful to bear, of course. But the real darkness exists in a lack of trust in the sovereign God whose love is indescribable and power unfathomable. 2. Lift your head high today if you're a believer in Jesus Christ You have all of Him dwelling within you 3. I don't think God has a cookie-cutter method of dealing with His children. Each of us is different: personalities, struggles, experiences, etc. I think He deals with each of us according to His specific plan for us and according to how different each of us is. 10

4. If we quit, we lose out on a beautiful gift from God. But if we persevere, though it may be painful, there is nothing we lose. We only gain what is good. 5. Grace doesn't nullify the truth. And truth doesn't stomp on grace. 6. A life that thrives is lived by the one who is fierce about his trust in the Lord. 7. I asked for deliverance. He gave me endurance. I asked for release. He gave me His peace. I asked to be pain free. He gave me His strength. What I didn't realize was that I was really asking for hope. And He gave me Himself. 11

Week Four 1. If He told you to march around a city 7 times and blow a trumpet to bring Him glory, would you? 2. Our prayer requests are often, "Lord, my life isn't smooth. Please make it so. Amen." When, perhaps, it should be, "Lord, how might I bring You glory through my pain?" 3. There is nothing so painful, nothing too dark, nothing so fearful that would require me to stop trusting fully in my God 12

4. The intensity of the "what if" questions are in direct proportion to the intensity of the struggle itself. However, the intensity of the struggle cannot increase so much that it surpasses the amazing grace of God. Therefore, the "what if" questions can lessen in intensity due to the promises of God. And God's grace is so sufficient it is able to eliminate the "what if" questions completely. 5. Here is a promise of God: something good will always come out of my pain. I just have to trust God for it. 6. I don't want God's Word to be solely a resource for crisis. 7. God delights when His kids trust in His promises. He lavishes us with grace upon grace when we believe He will do what He said He will do. 13

Week Five 1. Pride is worthless. There is no real life in pride. 2. Pride is like the hidden tide that pulls a man out to sea if he is not careful. 3. Truth is freedom, and Grace is the means by which Truth is revealed. 4. Satan formed a system of evil to defeat God. Then God made man, and through our humility and trust in God, the system of evil is broken. 5. Jesus didn't speak words of condemnation to the lost. Nor did He guilt them to believe in Him 14

by changing their behavior. He inspired their hearts with words of life. May His Church take note today. 6. Many times the broken hearted wear masks of rebellion and selfishness. But Jesus heals the broken hearted with His grace and compassion. May His Church take note today. 7. The same God who met with Moses on the mountain wants to meet with you now. Careful though, your heart may glow afterwards. 15

Week Six 1. There is no sin God cannot or will not forgive if asked. If one existed, He would not be God. 2. I think God delights in us when we trust in Him even though we have no idea just how big He really is. 3. Failure of the enemy is inevitable when up against a man whose trust is in the God of the universe. 4. We can't out-suffer the comfort Jesus gives. 16

5. The main point I get in the story of Jesus inviting Peter to step out of the boat onto the water is not about fear and sinking. It's about the truth that because of Christ we can walk on water. 6. Walk with Jesus and do what you want Psalm 37:4 7. Those who trust in the Lord can rest in the fact that no matter what happens everything will be okay. 17

Week Seven 1. Christians can either guilt each other to do right and continue to fail, or we can inspire one another and taste victory. 2. There doesn't exist a power so great that would defeat my faith in Jesus... unless I allowed it. I choose to believe daily. 3. Rules do not empower or inspire to obey Jesus. They only reveal our need for His mercy. Adding more rules in an attempt to be approved by Him only puts one in more bondage to his own misery because he can never measure up. He is playing the role of the Holy Spirit-- the only source of empowerment and inspiration to righteous living. And His tool is grace. 18

4. Every Christian should be rubbing shoulders with someone who has not yet believed in Jesus. 5. I would have been satisfied with one drop of his grace. But instead he continues to pour it out unlimited. 6. With fear and anxiety you become a false prophet because you try to predict the future. 7. God will never stop being good. Ever. 19

Week Eight 1. For the man whose trust is in the Lord, though at times his life may seem helpless, it is never hopeless. 2. Because of the presence of Jesus, I shall never lose hope. Oh, and He's ALWAYS with me 3. God has not given you permission to worry about what may or may not happen in the future. Rest in His grace today. And expect it tomorrow. 4. H.O.P.E. Hold On Pain Ends. - Kristina Barrett 20

5. Jesus gave us His life. Think about that... That s an awesome life to have 6. God promises, I will never leave you. Believe it? 7. Fear and anxiety say, God s grace will not be enough. May not even be there. You should throw up now. 21

Week Nine 1. When someone cuts me, I want to bleed grace. 2. There is no pain that can overcome God s grace. It s always sufficient, always present, always enough. 3. God s Truth found only in His Word is simple enough to think on and powerful enough to transform. 4. Sometimes God calms the storm... Sometimes He just calms our hearts in the midst of the storm. 5. The most amazing things accomplished were not easy, but they were doable. And when the ordinary became the overcomer everything else changed. 22

6. Walk in the Light. It's warmer, and you can see better. 7. When you get to the point in life where you realize you can actually think whatever you want... it will change everything. 23

Week Ten 1. Nothing can change our God. There is nothing too big or too terrible that could kill His promises to love you, protect you, and be with you. 2. "You are not just another face in a swarm of people. You are not unworthy of My love and My light. I made you for Me--for friendship. You are who I died for... that's how much I love you. And I've made it so that nothing can separate you from My love. If you will simply believe in Me." - Jesus 3. We can't comprehend the timeless. Eternity is too vast. But according to Scripture it is celebratory in nature. Immense in its bliss. Real and unconfined. Limitless in ecstasy and boundless in love and glory. Why? Because Jesus is there. So if you're loved one is there, too, he or she isn't just "in a better place." 24

4. You don't have to be afraid anymore. To walk down the path of the unknown. Where you can't see your next step. God has proved it--his power, His amazing care with you. His gentleness. He's not safe from human standards, but those standards are mundane and monotonous. As you see more of His amazing work, you'll become more addicted. 5. If we could spend one minute inside heaven, would we still pray for our saved, sick loved ones to be physically healed? 6. The joy of the Lord gives me strength. Anger, bitterness, and doubt drain it from me. 7. We can cower at the sight of the darkness and attempt to run and hide. Or we can rattle the cages of hell by trusting that God is leading this great adventure called the abundant life, and He is good. It's your choice. 25

Week Eleven 1. During those times when I fall to my knees overwhelmed with sadness, I will keep standing on Your truth. I trust in You. 2. When we trust God fully, we aren't tossing up our lives to chance. We're submitting our lives to the Almighty who loves us and has "blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ." Ephesians 1:3 3. Thriving during the struggle isn't avoiding pain, forcing a smile, pretending everything is fine, or seeking the next escape. But it is gazing upon Jesus, crying out to Jesus, crying with Jesus, resting in Jesus, listening to Jesus, and journeying with Jesus... because He's walking right next to you. 26

4. Pure, unadulterated joy is humanly impossible. But our God is bigger than whatever fears we allow to eliminate our joy. 5. What you believe is a matter of life and death on so many different levels. 6. Light can only shine through broken vessels. So "humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up." - James 4:10 7. Trusting in God means everything will be OK. If it isn't going to be OK, then He isn't God. Being OK doesn't mean being pain-free, but it's comforting to know that He is God, He is good, and He is here. 27

Week Twelve 1. Everlasting life is a top-shelf life. And if you believe in Jesus, you have that life now 2. There are shadows that bring a darkness causing fear of the unknown. But I rest in the shadow of the Almighty, and He gives me peace. 3. Many of our favorite things fade over time. They get old and worn out. It's that whole 2nd Law of Thermodynamics at work. But the love of Jesus never fades His mercies are new every morning 4. Grace is totally unfair. So lavish in it 28

5. You may feel like a failure. Your past may be haunting you. You may not feel like you are loved and accepted. But there is a promise for you... You are loved by the Creator. He gave His Son to die for you Believe in Him, and you will have life 6. Don't be afraid. Go on, trust Him. He wants to show you extraordinary things that will blow your mind 7. God doesn't desire us just to know about Him more, but to trust Him more. We can know and not trust. But the more we know, the more we should trust. And in our trust, we should move. 29
