JSS PS celebrates EARTH DAY Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated each year on the Vernal Equinox ie on April 22, on which events worldwide are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970. The April 22 date is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network and celebrated in more than 193 countries each year. The Vernal Equinox Earth Day, sanctioned by the United Nations and celebrated around the world with the ringing of the Peace Bell at the United Nations Headquarters is now globally coordinated by The Earth Society Foundation and the Earth Flag Foundation. For this very purpose, the students of Grade 10, of JSS Private School Dubai had put up an assembly on Sunday 24 th April 2016. This assembly had highlighted the dwindling resources of our Earth due to our negligence. ANCHORS FOR EARTH DAY ASSEMBLY The father of our nation stated that There is enough for everybody s need and not for any body s greed. Indeed, this is true. Excess utilization of resources is quite harmful for the humans and the flora-fauna of Mother Earth. To highlight the importance of it, Kacey of 10 C had recited a poem composed by herself.

THE NIGHTMARE OF A LONG LIVED DREAM The past and present people, Have had dreams so deep and clear, That the future should not be feeble, And that we shouldn t live in fear. The more developed the future, The better will be our lives, And every plant and creature, Will live in unity and survive. This dream has lived for years and years, But will it stay so true? Will the world stop shedding tears? Will all things be made anew? We cannot say this is true unless, We stop, contemplate and conclude, That our world is in a real big mess, And is also going through a feud. This feud s regarding many things, It s like humans versus nature. This feud has pulled so many strings, This feud has destroyed many of earth s creatures. Many trees have been cut down, And water s lost its purity. In the future, many people in despair shall drown, Nature and humans shall lose all unity. But what can we do to stop this, If people do not listen? Can we stop this world from being what it is? To alert the world, can we ever hasten? The music spoke volumes to everyone present. Also, the dance had played an equally important role in conveying the right message. Students of grade 10 performed to the

beat of the Earth Song by Michael Jackson. Alaine of 10B and Sanjana of 10 C were the instrumentalist for the day, guided by Suresh Sir. SINGERS OF EARTH DAY ASSEMBLY DANCERS OF EARTH DAY What better way to get enlightened about this disastrous puddle we have put ourselves into than expressing it through a skit. Action speaks louder than words. Students of

Grade 10 acted on the theme Present and Future. The skit consisted of four scenes showing the deterioration of our environment. This truly opened our eyes and gave us an insight into what we have done and how we can preserve the human race and generations to come. EARTH DAY SKIT Pranav Girish and Swetha of Grade 10 D made a presentation on the year 2050 based on our former President APJ Abdul Kalam s words.

We also had role play done by Grade 10 students on Prominent Environmentalist. Jaden Mathew of 10 A did the presentation for the role play.
