Service of Divine Worship FEBRUARY 25, 2018 9:00AM, 10:45AM Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall We rest our hearts in God s presence as we prepare for worship We celebrate God s presence with us and ask for his Spirit to work powerfully among us God invites us to worship him in spirit and in truth PRELUDE PSALM 34 WELCOME & INVOCATION CALL TO WORSHIP PSALM 34:1-3, 8 Leader: I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. People: My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad. Leader: Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together! People: Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! 1

We sing praises to God for who he is and for what he has done SONGS OF PRAISE EVERLASTING GOD Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord. We will wait upon the Lord, we will wait upon the Lord. (repeat) Prechorus: Our God, you reign forever; our Hope, our strong Deliverer. Chorus: You are the Everlasting God, the Everlasting God. You do not faint, you won t grow weary. You re the Defender of the weak, you comfort those in need, You lift us up on wings like eagles. (repeat all) We acknowledge our need of forgiveness and renewal through the cleansing blood of Jesus CONFESSION OF SIN Merciful Father, we confess that we have sinned and fallen short of your glory. You have graciously given us your Son, Jesus Christ, to be our great Redeemer and Friend, yet we have failed to follow in his footsteps in our friendships with others. We have selfishly chosen isolation and shallow, consumer-driven relationships. We have connected with others only to elevate our own position. Forgive our lack of sympathy, availability, and responsiveness. Lord Jesus, thank you for laying down your life for us. By your Holy Spirit, help us to live beautiful, distinctive, and countercultural lives in our relationships with others. To the glory of your holy name we pray, Amen. Prechorus, Chorus CCLI Song #4556538; Words & Music by B. Brown & K. Riley; 2005 Thankyou Music; CCLI License #152421 I WILL GLORY IN MY REDEEMER I will glory in my Redeemer, whose priceless blood has ransomed me. Mine was the sin that drove the bitter nails and hung him on that judgment tree. I will glory in my Redeemer, who crushed the pow r of sin and death. My only Savior before the Holy Judge; the Lamb who is my righteousness, The Lamb who is my righteousness. God reminds us of his promise of forgiveness in Christ ASSURANCE OF PARDON PSALM 34:22 The Lord redeems the life of his servants; none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned. I will glory in my Redeemer. My life he bought, my love he owns. I have no longings for another, I m satisfied in him alone. I will glory in my Redeemer, his faithfulness, my standing place. Though foes are mighty and rush upon me, my feet are firm held by his grace, My feet are firm held by his grace. I will glory in my Redeemer, who carries me on eagle s wings. He crowns my life with loving kindness, his triumph song I ll ever sing. I will glory in my Redeemer, who waits for me at gates of gold, And when he calls me, it will be paradise, his face forever to behold, His face forever to behold, his face forever to behold. We enjoy and extend the peace of the gospel to one another GIVING OF THE PEACE Leader: Because Christ has redeemed us, we now have peace with God and with one another. May the peace of Christ be with you! People: And also with you! CCLI Song # 3337435; Words & Music by S. & V. Cook; 2001 Sovereign Grace Music; CCLI License #152421 2 3

People: Thanks be to God! 4 5

We ready our hearts to receive the preaching of God s word SONG OF PREPARATION PSALM 34 God speaks to us through the preaching of his word SERMON THE GOSPEL IN THE LIFE OF DAVID 5. David & God We respond to God s word through song SONG OF SENDING IN CHRIST ALONE In Christ alone, my hope is found, he is my light, my strength, my song; This Cornerstone, this solid Ground, firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, when fears are stilled, when strivings cease. My Comforter, my All in All, here in the love of Christ I stand. In Christ alone, who took on flesh, fullness of God in helpless babe! This gift of love and righteousness, scorned by the ones he came to save. Til on that cross as Jesus died the wrath of God was satisfied. For every sin on him was laid; here in the death of Christ I live. There in the ground his body lay, Light of the world by darkness slain. Then bursting forth in glorious Day, up from the grave he rose again! And as he stands in victory, sin s curse has lost its grip on me; For I am his and he is mine, bought with the precious blood of Christ. No guilt in life, no fear in death, this is the pow r of Christ in me; From life s first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No power of hell, no scheme of man can ever pluck me from his hand. Til he returns or calls me home, here in the power of Christ I ll stand. No power of hell, no scheme of man can ever pluck me from his hand; Til he returns or calls me home, here in the power of Christ I ll stand. CCLI Song # 3350395; Words & Music by K. Getty & S. Amen. People: Amen. Thanks be to God! Alleluia! 6 7
