WELCOME TO PIONEER Good morning and welcome to Pioneer Memorial Church! What an amazing day and what a fantastic opportunity for us all to come together to share in fellowship and praise. To the Pioneer Family, in Hebrews 13 we are reminded to let brotherly love continue and to not neglect the strangers among us. This morning, look around you; do you see any unfamiliar faces? WE WELCOME YOU Reach out a hand; give a hug. Let us spread the love of Christ to one and all this Sabbath morning! To our visitors, Thank you for sharing today with us. We hope that the fellowship and love that you experience here today will continue to echo in your lives in the days that lie ahead. Happy Sabbath! PASTOR S BLOG THE SECRETS ADVENTISM ALREADY KNOWS BY MICHEAL GOETZ T his is what I have seen. It is an observation and part of my experience. As a pastor on this campus, I have spent most of my waking hours observing, interacting with, and planning for young people and students. In my own little head, I feel like I have a good view from where I sit. The truth is, the devil is seeking whom he may devour. He doesn t care about schedules or budgets. His attack is unfair and he will do whatever it takes. It won t be a one thing that shuts the back door, but if we talk of giving young people the best shot to make a permanent decision as a follower of Jesus here are my conclusions: My definition of church as in keeping our youth and young adults in the church is they are engaged in the mission of the church. It is not attendance, not even consistent attendance ( in church ) we have had those generations and it has put us where we are. What closing the door looks like is young people engaged in the mission of the church and committed to kingdom work. Here are the secrets: 1 FAMILY WORSHIP We conducted a survey of our high school and junior-high students who attended Sabbath School, asking what are the influencers (negative and positive) for their spiritual life. The primary negative influence they reported was media (movies, TV, internet, etc.). This wasn t such a surprise but I didn t expect what they pointed out as making the biggest difference for good: spiritual interaction with parents (family worship, conversations, Bible studies, and praying together). 2 SABBATH SCHOOL Those in Sabbath School are also the ones most involved in all other activities. That is, it is rare to find a devoted, active Christian young person not attending Sabbath School. 3 PATHFINDERS & ADVENTURERS I am impressed with these teams. They seek to disciple and teach everything that any parent, church, country, or God would want while including a variety of fun activities. As a church we have talked of discipleship as if the church has been weak on it, and we read books and study models, thinking we are going to come up with a solution. We have had the solution all along! No other system or program I have seen can accomplish what Pathfinders is continuing to do. 4 MISSION TRIPS, EVANGELISM, OR SUMMER CANVASSING I recommend community service and living a life that continues to give the tangible actions of Jesus love. But this does not take the place or inspire and guide like being on the front line of the cosmic war. In the past couple of years we have had 4 PIONEER MEMORIAL CHURCH

groups of dozens of young people from Pioneer travel to countries where they each preach a full series in cooperation with a local church. I have never heard a church believe they would have been better without the evangelistic series they did. And with the young people, I have not seen anything that impacts their commitment to Jesus and Bible truth more than active evangelism. Working together for Jesus is messy (the together is the messy part). And it is a privilege to have been in the mess here at Pioneer Memorial Church. I praise God for this community and believe that... He who began a good work here, will be faithful to complete it. NOVEMBER 1, 2014 5

FEATURE ARTICLE 5 WAYS TO STAY ORGANIZED IN COLLEGE BY NINA LASSONNIER C ollege is a one-of-a-kind experience. Between classes, homework, friends, and jobs, it can get overwhelming very quickly. Staying organized is one of the most important things to learn while in college. In 1 Corinthians 14:40, God says that all things should be done decently and in order. College is definitely one of those things. Here are five practical tips to help any college student stay organized. 1 OWN A STUDENT PLANNER AND USE IT Keeping track of assignments and due dates is important. You might think that you will be able to memorize your assignment due dates. Wrong! One day or another you will forget an assignment. Also, a lot of times teachers change the due dates. In order to avoid forgetting important assignments, get a planner. It helps to have everything in one place; it saves time and makes it easier to have a visual for what s ahead. 6 PIONEER MEMORIAL CHURCH

2 PRIORITIZE Take 5 to 10 minutes to gather all the assignments you want to work on and make a list. Then put the assignments in a specific order. For example; you can alter between long and short assignments, or between boring and interesting ones, but always put one of the hardest assignments first. That way, you will be able to keep the work session somewhat interesting without wearing yourself out. It may seem like a waste of time to organize your homework session. However, these few minutes could be the difference between finishing your work in a couple hours versus a few days! 3 MAKE TIME FOR GOD Despite heavy workloads and tight schedules, it is always important to make time for God. Taking a few minutes out of your busy schedule to re-charge your spiritual battery will help you put everything in perspective. It will give you a different outlook on life and allow you to be able to deal with stress when it hits. As Proverbs 3:5-6 says, keeping God in on your life is key to driven, purposeful life. Use God s word as a guide for your present and future; you cannot get more organized than that! It could be as simple as imagining yourself in a cap and gown one day. Find what works for you and do it. 5 BE REALISTIC Finally, you have to remember that no one is perfect, even those students who seem as if they have it all together. The secret is to try as hard as you can and then adjust when you fall short of your expectations. Begin by setting achievable goals; don t overload yourself. Instead, divide long assignments into shorter sections that can become part of your regular homework sessions. If at first you don t succeed, tweak your method a little, and try again. College is a learning experience in more ways than one. Learn how to master the skill of organization; it is one that will serve you for the rest of your life. Nina Lassonnier is a graduate from AU (2014) with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. 4 JUST DO IT Procrastination: the number one problem for all college students. You may have the most detailed planner and the most thorough to-do list, but if you don t actually do what you planned to do, well... it will not get done (Proverbs 13:4). If you have set aside a certain time for an assignment, anything else that you do instead is a form of procrastination. That includes cleaning, laundry, reading your textbook, working out and even more planning. Finding the motivation to start an assignment is one of the hardest things in the world to do but it is important. Find that thing that keeps you going when you have no motivation. From a technical viewpoint, the musical figure is a dotted eighth note followed by a sixteenth note, and the first note gets three times the length as the second note! What this figure can do for the words of this hymn is to impart a particular vigor, even assuredness, to them. Of course, this effect largely may be lost on those who have not perceived this relationship. So, why not pay close attention to it today? Interestingly, author/composer Russell Kelso Carter, of Baltimore, Maryland, was exceptional in his apparent thirst for knowledge. He was at times a shepherd, ordained Methodist minister, and physician. NOVEMBER 1, 2014 9

MASTER PLAN OF EVANGELISM MEDIA MOVING FORWARD BY NICK WOLFER L ook around; God is blessing the media ministry in ways you may not have noticed. In August, we installed five new High Definition cameras. While this is a huge technical upgrade, it is also an answer to prayer. As technology changes, so do the standards of the television stations that air our program. Keeping up with their requirements is essential to broadcasting on their stations. Upgrading was a necessary step to keep the broadcast ministry moving forward and reaching people. The Pioneer media team is committed to improving the quality of our programs through technology, but reaching people is more than just how good our cameras look. So we are dedicated to finding new and improved ways to communicate our message to people; ways that people can GOD IS BLESSING THE MEDIA MINISTRY IN WAYS YOU MAY NOT HAVE NOTICED. respond and ultimately accept Jesus as their personal Savior. You can help in more ways than one. First, continue to financially support MPE and the TV ministry. Your offerings combined with the donations of others from around the world are what keep this ministry funded. Second, we are looking for several more volunteers, people willing to help for one or two Saturdays a month with media. Serving on the media team is a great way to participate in evangelism behind the scenes with a great group of people. Finally, we need all of your prayers both for us as a team and for those we are trying to reach. FOR MORE INFORMATION: Nickilos Wolfer 471.3246 wolfer@pmchurch.org NOVEMBER 1, 2014 15
