Luke 4:18-19 (NKJ) It is the vision of Mount Olive to be a church that is intentional in its efforts to identify and meet the needs of broken, hurt and oppressed people in the greater Glen Allen area through the message and ministry of Jesus Christ. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 2 MOBC FAITH DEVELOPMENT!! The Christian Season of Epiphany January 6 February 9, 2016 The Pulpit Attire is Green The word Epiphany is from the Greek word epiphaneia, which means manifestation or appearance. On the Day of Epiphany, January 6, we celebrate Christ s being revealed to the world and the visit of the wise men, the first Gentiles to whom He was made known. The color for Epiphany is GREEN. The color GREEN stands for life and growth. Theme For This Quarter: SACRED GIFTS AND HOLY GATHERINGS The study of this quarter examines religious and family traditions including the traditions surrounding the Jewish holidays as well as marriage and death. The material from Exodus and Leviticus as well as Matthew highlight the importance of tradition in worship while the material from Genesis, Song of Solomon, Hosea, and John highlight the importance of tradition when it comes to different life stages. UNIT 3 -- CELEBRATING HIS GOODNESS The four lessons in this unit will focus on celebration and how to remember and proclaim God s goodness. February 14, 2016 NEXT WEEK S LESSON: Feast of Weeks Leviticus 23:15-22 People celebrate the harvest with thanksgiving and share the fruits with others. Why do they respond in this way? God commanded the Hebrews to offer Him joyful praise and thanksgiving, as they shared their harvest with the needy. * MONDAY: Praise the Lord Psalm 147:1-11 * TUESDAY: Thanks be to God 1 Chronicles 17:16-27 * WEDNESDAY: In All Things, Thanks Ephesians 5:15-20 * THURSDAY: In Spite of Everything, Thanks Romans 7:14-25 * FRIDAY: Increasing Thanks 2 Corinthians 4:7-15 * SATURDAY: In the End, Thanks Revelation11:15-19 * SUNDAY: Feast of the Weeks Leviticus 23:15-22 Sermon Highlights January 31, 2016 Title: A Message of Restoration for the Church Text: 1 Peter 5:1-11 Main Idea: Can we hold it together until God is ready to restore the church? In order for the church to be restored: Points: 1) We must know our responsibilities and roles as servants of God. 2) There must be a level of respect & humility amongst the people. 3) We must have self-discipline and resist the devil. For the full message order a CD or DVD of the service from the Media Ministry. CDs $5.00; Double CDs $7.00; DVDs $10.00 HOW TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST INTO YOUR HEART Perhaps while reading the announcements you realized you have never made a Christian commitment. Don t delay that decision! We encourage you to embrace God s love today and receive the salvation that only Jesus Christ gives. Here are five simple steps you can take to find assurance of salvation. 1. Recognize your need. The Bible tell us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Rom. 3:23) All of us are sinners, and we must admit our need for a Savior. 2. Repent of your sins. Our sins create a wall that separates us from God. By confessing our sins and turning from them, you will find forgiveness. The Bible promises: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). 3. Believe in Jesus. God sent His only Son to die so that He could pay for all our sins. Put your faith in Him and believe in His power to save you. The Bible says, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16). 4. Receive His salvation. God has given us a great gift in His Son, but we must receive His gift. Thank Him for loving and forgiving you, and ask Him to live in your heart. His promise to us is clear: But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12). 5. Confess your faith. The Bible assures us: If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Rom. 10:9). You have been born again and are now part of God s family. Tell some one else what Jesus has done in your life! MOBC Bible Institute Fall 2015 semester of the Bible Institute is now in session. Class will meet every Wednesday evening from 6:30 PM 8:00 PM in the Classroom #1. Your Donation Counts MOBC 150 Years of Giving Pledge Campaign As the oldest African American Church in the Glen Area, we pause to celebrate God s blessings. Almost 150 years ago we began worshipping in a Brush Arbor and have continued to worship in this area since 1867. In recognition and in tribute to our founding forefathers, we wish to continue their legacy, to be fruitful and to be a beacon of light in our community. Why Give? Your generous support of Mount Olive s 150 Years of Giving Pledge Campaign Program allows the Anniversary Volunteer Planning Committee to help cover the cost of the programs and events the Committee is planning in celebration of our Church s Sesquicentennial Celebration, plus we will be able to make a generous principal reduction to our mortgage loan on the Multi-Purpose Building. What Can You Do? If you haven t already picked up a pledge card and donation envelopes designed for this campaign, please stop by the table in the Narthex or Administrative Office Area after today s 8:00 AM or 11:00 AM Service to sign up and show your support. Committee volunteers will be available to answer any questions you may have about this program. If you have already picked up a pledge card, please stop by to return your pledge card to the Trustee at either of the tables noted above. Please use the special green envelopes to make your donations which should be dropped in the offering plates on any Sunday. Your Gift All members who make a minimum pledge of $150 and honor your pledge will receive a free 150th Anniversary Souvenir Book. Your monetary gift is instrumental in providing support for our upcoming 150 years of existence and pride in our beautiful Mount Olive Baptist Church Campus which your generosity and the generosity of other members have enabled the Officials to add to the property our forefathers purchased in 1867. We are thanking God for the foresight these African American Christians had to move forward in creating a place of worship for their families and friends.
