BAPTISMAL SERVICE of Theophilos Crispin Ogunjobie June 24, 2018 BAPTISMAL SERVICE Baptism is a moment in the Christian Community when we recognize the grace of God living in each newborn creation. God offers us the possibility of transformation, a continuing process of renewal of body, mind and spirit, which takes place within faith communities. So it is that Crispin and Samia and all of Theophilos s family bring him into this community to be baptized. PLEDGES TO GOD AND TO ONE ANOTHER A covenant is integral to relationships with God, so today we state the responsibilities of parents and community to God and the child, Samia and Crispin, I ask you now to affirm your covenant with God and Theophilos. Do you in presenting Theophilos Crispin Ogunjobie for Holy Baptism confess your faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? WE DO. DO you therefore accept as your bounden duty and privilege to live before Theophilos a life that becomes the Gospel; to exercise all Godly care that he be brought up in the Christian faith, that he be taught the Holy Scriptures, and that he learn to give reverent attendance upon the private and public worship of God? WE DO. Will you endeavor to keep Theophilos under the ministry and guidance of the Church until he, by the power of God shall accept for himself the gift of salvation, and be confirmed as a full and responsible member of Christ s holy church? UNITED METHODIST CHURCH AT NEW BRUNSWICK Pastor: Rev. Cyndi Stouffer Parents: Crispin and Samia Williams Godparents: Mr. and Mrs. Kelvin Effiom, Mr. Julian Johnson, Ms. Yeama Caramba Coker and Mr. Montfort Cassell WE WILL.

Godparents, will you affirm your covenant with God, these parents and this child? Will you support and nurture this child as he grows in the faith and the knowledge of God s love? WE WILL Now I ask this congregation, do you as a congregation accept the responsibility of assisting these parents and sponsors in the fulfillment of the baptismal vows, and do you undertake to provide facilities and opportunities for Christian nurture and fellowship? WE WILL, BY THE GRACE OF GOD The Lord be with you. AND ALSO WITH YOU. Let us pray. Eternal God, When nothing existed but chaos, you swept across the dark waters and brought forth light. In the days of Noah you saved those on the ark through water. After the flood you set in the clouds a rainbow. When you saw your people as slaves in Egypt, you led them to freedom through the sea. Their children you brought through the Jordan to the land which you promised. SING TO THE LORD ALL THE EARTH. TELL OF GOD'S MERCY EACH DAY. In the fullness of time you sent Jesus, nurtured in the water of a womb. He was baptized by John and anointed by your Spirit. He called his disciples to share in the baptism of his death and resurrection and to make disciples of all nations. DECLARE GOD S WORKS TO THE NATIONS GOD'S GLORY AMONG ALL PEOPLE. Pour out your Holy Spirit, and by this gift of water call to our remembrance, the grace declared to us in our baptism. For you have washed away our sins, and you clothe us with righteousness throughout our lives, that dying and rising with Christ we may share in Christ s final victory. ALL PRAISE TO YOU, ETERNAL GOD, THROUGH YOUR SON JESUS CHRIST, WHO WITH YOU AND THE HOLY SPIRIT LIVES AND REIGNS FOREVER. Baptism is an act of naming and knowing one s identity within the community and individually before God. Baptism is the recommitment of a creation with its Creator. Baptism is a bond of love. Let us pray. God, your grace has been with Theophilos Crispin Ogunjobie ever since you communed with his parents in his creation. Be with him even now and with us in his faith community, throughout the years, blessing his life that he may grow in love for you. Amen. Samia and Crispin, by what name shall this child of God be known? THEOPHILOS CRISPIN OGUNJOBIE Theophilos Crispin Ogunjobie, I baptize you in the name of God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. LAYING ON OF HANDS The Holy Spirit work within you, that being born through water and the Spirit you may be a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ. AMEN.

To my dear friends at UMC@NB: Since January, 2009, I have had the great pleasure of working at The United Methodist Church at New Brunswick. This experience has given me a sense of personal fulfillment as I have served this congregation. I have worked with three different pastors and made many, many friends. I have held some of you in my prayers as I did what I could to ease your burdens during difficult times in your lives, and rejoiced with you during the happy times. My leaving the east coast and UMC@NB is bitter sweet. As I begin the next chapter in my own journey, please know that you are in my prayers. I know God brought me to this place to serve and to learn from the many different cultures He brought together at this special place in New Brunswick. I will miss you and pray that God sends special blessings into each of your lives. You will be forever in my heart In faithful service, Doreen
