Daniel Lesson/Skit 2 Daniel Prayed to God The One True God! Lesson Overview: Key Concept: There is one true God the God of the Bible. We can rely on him. Take Away: God s kingdom will last forever! Key Verses: Daniel 2:47; Daniel 2:23 Other Verses: Skit based on Daniel 2:1-49. Reference Verses: Ephesians 4:6 Supplies List: From Lesson 1 Lesson and Activity pages Daniel Puppet/Standup, Friends Standup Bible, marked with verses used in lesson. Print and Make Before Lesson: Scissors (adult only) King Nebbie Puppet / Standup (Also see Crafts and Activities supply lists) Daniel, Friends praying picture Words for bulletin board. Print extra pics to make bulletin board scene. Statue Puzzle Craft God s Mountain Craft or picture Paper rock : Gray wad of paper scrunched up Skit Daniel Prayed to the God The One True God! (About 5 minutes) Narrator: (Show Daniel and friends on one side). Last week we learned that Jerusalem was captured by King Nebuchadnezzar. (Show King Nebbie on the other side). That s a long name, so we ll call him Nebbie for short. Daniel and his friends lived in Jerusalem, so they were taken from their homes and brought to Babylon, where King Nebbie ruled (Bring Daniel, friends over to Nebbie). But God blessed Daniel and his friends! They got to work for the king in his palace! Narrator: (Show King Nebbie, laying down). One night while King Nebbie was sleeping, he had a dream. (Put him upright). The dream kept him awake because it upset him. He wanted to know what the dream meant! So, King Nebbie asked the wise men in the palace to come and see if they could help him. So the wise men came to the king. Here s what he said to them: King Nebbie: I m upset because I had a dream! I want to know what it means! If you can tell me my dream, and what it means, I ll give you lots of gifts! Narrator: All of the wise men who were there said to the king, O.k. Tell us your dream, and we ll tell you what it means. But King Nebbie was stubborn! King Nebbie: NO! You have to tell me what my dream was, and what it means. Narrator: The wise men whined, That s too hard! No one can do that! Only the gods can do that! Now King Nebbie was really mad! (Whisper): I hope he doesn t lose his temper. King Nebbie: Oo-o-O! Now I m SO MAD I m going to destroy all the wise men in Babylon! Narrator: (Daniel, Friends) Uh-oh! King Nebbie sounds really mad! If King Nebbie destroys all the wise men in Babylon, that means Daniel and his friends too! (Point to Daniel, Friends). So one of the king s officer s, Arioch, went to look for Daniel and his friends. When he found Daniel and his friends, he told him everything that was happening. So Daniel went to King Nebbie and begged him.

Daniel Lesson/Skit 2 Daniel Prayed to God The One True God! p2 Daniel: (Show Nebbie and Daniel). King Nebbie, don t do anything yet! I ll tell you your dream and tell you what it means! But I need some time. King Nebbie: (Cranky) Oh, alright! Narrator: So Daniel ran back to his friends and told them everything. ( Run Daniel over to friends). Daniel: (Show Daniel, friends). Please pray with me! The King says we ll all be destroyed if I can t tell him what his dream was, and what it means! Narrator: (Daniel, friends praying). So Shadrach, Mishach and Abedengo prayed with Daniel. And that very same night, God showed Daniel what King Nebbie had dreamt, and also what it meant! The next morning when Daniel woke up, he was so excited! Here s what he prayed: Daniel: (Jumps up and down). (Read Daniel 2:23) Narrator: Daniel ran off to King Nebbie. ( Run Daniel to the king). Daniel: King Nebbie! King Nebbie! King Nebbie: (King Nebbie. Daniel). Hi Daniel! You sure look excited! Can you tell me my dream? Daniel: (King Nebbie. Daniel). No, King Nebbie. No one can tell you your dream. Only God in heaven can tell you! And He has showed me what you dreamt, and what it means! Narrator: So Daniel told King Nebbie his dream! Daniel: As you were lying there in bed, you dreamt of a giant statue! (Show Statue puzzle). It was made of gold, silver, bronze, and iron. The feet had clay mixed in. Then a rock hit the statue on its feet! Narrator: Who wants to throw the rock? (Let child throw the paper wad rock ) Daniel: The rock smashed it to pieces, and the wind blew away the pieces! (Take off pieces, hold in hand, blow away. Have children help you put it back together). Thank you for helping. But the rock became a huge mountain, (Show mountain) and it filled the whole earth! Narrator: Nebbie was still listening. (Show statue) Then Daniel explained that each part is like a kingdom on the earth: (Point to each part). Gold, silver, bronze, iron and mixed clay. O.k., Daniel, can you tell everyone what it means. Daniel: It means that the kingdoms on earth will not last. (Show mountain). The mountain is God s kingdom where he rules! It means that God will set up a kingdom that will last forever! Narrator: (Fold Nebbie s at knees). Then King Nebbie bowed down on his knees. Now he knew that Daniel s God was the one true God! Here s what he said: King Nebbie: Surely your God is the GOD of Gods! He is the LORD over all kings! He showed you what my dream was, and what it means! Narrator: (Show Daniel). Then King Nebbie made Daniel ruler over all of the other wise men! He gave Daniel many great gifts! And Daniel s friends were also were put in charge! (Show friends). Transition: Did you like that story? It s a true story! Let s have snack. Then we can talk about the story.

Daniel 2 Preschool Talk Time Real / Pretend Object Lesson Activity Supplies: Gather sets of real things with matching pretend things. For example, plastic food (or the 3D vegetables craft) and real food, plastic flowers (make sure there s no small parts that are choking hazards) and real flowers; paper doll clothes and real clothes. Also have a doll for Talk Time. Prep: Put all the sets of real/pretend things in a basket. Intro: I m going to hold up two things. See if you can tell me which one is real, and which one is pretend? (Hold up one set of real/pretend things). Yes, that s the real one. That s the true one. Real and true mean the same thing. (Continue on in the same way with all of your items. Then continue with the Talk Time below). Now let s talk about the one real God, and pretend gods. When the king asked the wise men to tell him what his dream was, do you remember what the wise men said? Right. They told King Nebbie, No one can tell you what your dream was. Only the gods could do that! But did their gods tell any of those men what the king s dream was? No. That s because their gods were just pretend gods. They weren t really gods at all! They were like this little doll (hold up doll) that can t speak or walk or do anything! When Daniel found out that the king was about to destroy all of the wise men, what did Daniel do? (Give children a chance to answer). Yes! Daniel ran to the king and asked him to wait. Daniel knew God was able to tell him what his dream was. Daniel had faith! He knew that our great God is the one true God who knows everything! And he knew our great God could do anything even tell him the king s dream, and what it means! Then Daniel and his friends prayed real hard. Then, what did God do? (Give children a chance to answer). Yes, during the night, God answered their prayers! God showed Daniel what the king s dream was, and told him what it meant too! God showed everyone that he was the one true God! Then King Nebbie knew that Daniel s God is the one true God because he could tell him what he had dreamed and what the dream meant! Do you remember when Daniel praye? He called God, the God of my ancestors. He was praying to the God of the Bible -- the same great God that Noah, Abraham and Jacob prayed to! And he s the same great God that we pray to! And he s the same great God who sent Jesus, his only Son, to die on the cross for our sins and he is the one true God! Daniel knew he could rely on God, and now we know that we can rely on God too! Transition: Did you like that story? Let s pray now and thank God for being the one true God! Prayer Time: Have an adult or teen pray, then give children a chance to pray.

Daniel 2 Preschool Activities Snack Ideas: Chocolate Chex cereal (or other cereal with mixed colors) and/or colored mini marshmallows. Show children how to lay the pieces side by side, on a paper plate, in the shape of a person. Warm-up Activity: Show children how to make a playdough statue (person) with different colored body parts. Action Rhyme: Daniel King Nebbie was upset: He had a dream. Tilt head, lay on hands. He said, I want to know, what it means! Put hands on hips. The wise men said, We can t tell you that! Shake head no. Only a god could, and that s a fact! Point up. The king got so mad, he d destroy them all! Swat hand in front of you. So Daniel ran to the king, asked him to stall. Walk two fingers. Then Daniel asked his friends, won t you pray? Put hands together, as if praying. God gave Daniel a vision, that night as he lay! Tilt head, lay on hands. Daniel told the king, God showed me your dream! Tilt head, lay on hands. And he even told me, what it means! Point up. Daniel explained the dream. He was bold! Point to mouth. He spoke of a big statue -- silver and gold. Raise hand high. The rock struck the feet, of iron and clay. Smack fist in other hand. Then the statue broke to pieces, and blew away. Blow hard. Look at all the pieces! We could count them! Point finger in a sweeping motion. Then the rock grew. It became a moun-tain! Bring hands together over your head. Daniel told how the kingdoms would all fall. Swat both hands in front of you. But God s kingdom will last! He ll rule them all! Bring hands together overhead. Point up. Now the king knew Daniel s God, is the ONE TRUE God! Hold up one finger. Other gods are not real. They are frauds! Shake head no. Daniel s God s the one who could tell the dream! Tilt head, lay on hands. And he even told them, what it means! Point up. Then Nebbie made Daniel ruler over his men! Point in front of you in a sweeping motion. Soon we ll hear the story, of the lion s den! Make claws and roar like a lion.
