The Eagle s Nest Thornton Aerie and Auxiliary #3226 8651 N. Huron St. Thornton, CO 80260 April 1, 2014 (303) 427-2236 PLEASE join us on April 26th for our anniversary celebration. The Auxiliary is celebrating 49 years and the Aerie is celebrating 50 years KUDOS from the press room!!! Thank you to everyone for all your prayers and concern for Lonnie and Bill during their hospital stay. Both of have a long road ahead of them. Jan and Pat. St Patty s Day Dinner went well! Yummy food prepared by Jan and served by Dixie! Thanks to all who organized and enjoyed wearin of the green! Thanks to Vicky, Denise, Linda and Chris for decorating our Aerie home each month with a fitting theme! These gals enjoy doing this but ask that all decorations be left on the tables and walls so they can be packed away for future use. These are not party favors or giveaways! Thanks for your help with that! Thanks to those who supported the sale of the Shamrocks adorning overhead at the bar! The funds raised will help to purchase more decorations and any leftover will go towards the Children s Easter Party. Next will be Easter eggs, so please purchase one or two all of these sales will go towards the Easter party as well.

State Worthy President Eldon Younger HUGE Thanks! To ALL my Thornton Brothers and Sisters who helped in any way to make our Spring Conference a success! It s amazing to me how our small Aerie and Auxiliary can do such BIG things!! Starting with the planning meetings, to the cleaning, yard and maintenance work, coordinating supply lists, shopping, cooking/serving and cleanup, bartending, opening up at 5:30 AM!!, registration, music, set-ups and teardowns, decorating, baking desserts, other donations, the list goes on!! It takes a HUGE TEAM EFFORT to make all this happen and #3226 made it happen!! Recently, I have learned that Thornton is setting a record for having a State President serve from #3226 THREE years consecutively! When you take on the One of the key things that make it possible to do this job is the support and belief of your local Aerie and Auxiliary. And Thornton #3226 Brothers and Sisters have been there for Sandy and me for these two years and we know we will all be there to support our third State President coming up next Timmie Torres! Please know we are grateful and very proud, as you all should be too. Again, THANKS for all you do and for being great volunteers and dedicated Eagles. THORNTON #3226 BROTHERS AND SISTERS ARE AWESOME!!! Proud to be from Thornton! Eldon State Worthy President

Madam President s Letter Mary Dewey Hello and Happy Spring Sisters and Brothers, April showers bring May flowers. or June flowers, depending on the weather. I noticed the lilac bushes are starting to get buds and I look forward to smelling the flowers once they bloom. March was a busy month for the Aerie and Auxiliary. We hosted Spring Conference and had a great turnout. We received lots of compliments on our members, hospitality and food. Thanks to all who participated, planned, registered, donated, cooked, cleaned, set up, bartended, stocked, shopped, washed, dried, ran errands, danced, played, attended. Not naming names as I am afraid of forgetting someone, but you know who you are you are an Eagle and proud to serve your Aerie and Auxiliary. April will be another busy month as we will celebrate our 50 th Aerie Anniversary and 49 th Auxiliary Anniversary. Worthy President Joe Atencio and I are putting a plan together to celebrate and hope you will attend the festivities. Please see the flyer in this newsletter for more information. Dinner will be salad, spaghetti with meatball and sausage, garlic bread and spumoni ice cream for dessert. We will need some help with this, so please let me know if you can lend a hand or two. April is also the month to decide if you would like to run for an office in the Aerie or Auxiliary. Think about it. You will have more people backing you up than you realize. The only way to make changes is to participate. I know there are several members who have never served in office make this the year to give it a try. It may seem scary at first, but you will overcome your fear and realize that it is okay to make a mistake. Everyone that was in the position before you knows how it feels. Suck it up and put on your big boy/girl pants. Have a wonderful month and be sure to attend at least one function a month. Your support is wanted and needed. Warm regards, Mary Dewey Madam President Presidentmary@comcast.net 303-570-8927 cell My dad told me volunteering pays. He lied to me.

Hello my Brothers and Sisters, Joe Atencio April showers bring May flowers and, more importantly, Rockies opening day. March madness is winding down and Payton Manning is still a Bronco. What more can we ask for? A very large personal thank from me to all the people that helped behind the scenes to make the State Spring Conference a huge success. I was given kudos from many of the state officers and want to give the people that deserve the praise there just do. These state officers travel throughout the state and are exposed to many different versions of celebrations at the various Aeries. They are always quick with the compliments on Thornton s hospitality and preparation. This is a huge feather in our cap. One officer even told me he wished other Aeries would follow our model. Wow.That is the highest form of praise. Once again I am reaching out to our wonderful members for a little bit more of help with functions and special events. I ll be honest with you all. The few members that help at all of the events are getting frustrated and disgruntled with the lack of help that they are receiving. We have a very vocal group when things are not to their standards but very quiet when it s time to get their hands dirty and help around the club. Why is this? If you don t like something get involved and make things better. Election time is right around the corner, no better time to make changes. Get your name on the ballot, become an officer and make a difference. The entire club will benefit from it. If you have any questions what the requirements of holding an office are, please just ask an officer. Remember, we have the benefit of years of experience in our midst. As always, this newsletter is your newsletter, PLEASE let the editor know of anything you would like to add. Thank you all and God Bless Joe Atencio Worthy President Thornton Eagles Aerie #3226 Spring is nature's way of saying, "Let's party!" ~Robin Williams

Chaplain s Corner Richard Wise Hello my Brothers and Sisters. April, spring and opening day. By tradition, the Catholic Church dedicates each month of the year to a certain devotion. In April, it is the Blessed Sacrament. One thing that sets Catholics apart from other Christians who believe in the Real Presence (that the bread and wine truly become the Body and Blood of Christ) is that they don't believe that the Real Presence ends when the Sacrament of Holy Communion is complete. Frequent prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, reserved in the tabernacle, is a path to spiritual growth. Every visit to the Blessed Sacrament should include an Act of Spiritual Communion, asking Christ to come into our hearts, even when we cannot receive His Body in Holy Communion. Act of Love "I believe Thou art present in the Blessed Sacrament, O Jesus. I love Thee and desire Thee. Come into my heart. I embrace Thee, O never leave me. I beseech Thee, O Lord Jesus, may the burning and most sweet power of Thy love absorb my mind, that I may die through love of Thy love, Who wast graciously pleased to die through love of my love. " Philippians 4:13 New King James Version (NKJV) 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Richard Wise Chaplin Thornton Eagles Aerie 3226 Janitors Closet We need all of our members help in making sure that club property stay in the club. Without accusing anybody of anything we have noticed soap and lotion being taken from the club restrooms and storage area. If you are in need of these items please let us know (confidentially) and we will do our best to help you out. (People Helping People).

Trustees Voice Have you ever wondered what a trustee does & why do they do it? Probably not, but I m going to tell you anyway. We (Mark, Gene, Michael & Ted) have 2 goals & objectives. 1. To keep our club SAFE & Fun for all our members & guests. - That means safe from hazards to prevent slips, trips falls & cuts. Safe from intruders, bullies (for lack of a better word) safe from dangers from liquor & food toxins. Safe from the environment, such as the parking lot the yard etc. 2. To keep the club open for business. keeping up with all the behind the scenes work takes many hours & dollars. We need to keep us with rules & regulations, permits, codes & licenses. From the City, County, State, Fire dept. Health dept, FOE State board, FOE National board. That is a full time job. Thankfully we have Kathy who keeps a good calendar & kicks us in the pants when things are due. Just this week we Think we will have a surprise inspection from our fire department to make sure we are up to code with their latest regulations. We just had our kitchen hood cleaned & the grease trap emptied, had & ordered 2 fire extinguishers re charged in preparation for the inspection. Also recently we had our entire fire sprinkler system tested & recharged. This cost our club nearly $1000. This is what keeps us busy. When was the last time you went into the club & we were out of bath towels in the restroom or olives or bar napkins any of the little things we all take for granted? Yes that s your trustee s ( & bartenders-thank you) keeping up with all the supplies. We recently installed 2 new security doors & 2 office security doors. Did you notice? Yet we still hear complaints almost every time we enter the club about stuff that s not done. Or something we should be or not be doing. We have realized you can t please all the members all the time. One of the complaints we have been hearing recently is The bands downstairs during the hall rentals are too loud, we can t enjoy the social room We agree that is a legitimate complaint. But if you have noticed all the surrounding clubs are raising their drink prices & we haven t. That s because 1 or 2 nights a month we are allowing loud bands, parties & hall rentals downstairs. These parties are paying for our continued skyrocketing expenses. We (trustee s) would rather have those Guests pay our expenses than have to raise prices for our members. The inconvenience of 1 or 2 days a month & on our slowest night of the week (Saturday) is worth it. The club is not inconvenienced 28-29 days out of the month. We still have a list of things we are trying to accomplish & would love to hear your positive comments & suggestion s on these. In no particular order, with spring here we want to work on the following.. Due to the 2 recent break ins, security bars on select windows New windows for energy conservation New safe for security Grass seed? Or sod or? For the back yard, Ideas for landscaping Plastic window coverings for patio Thornton Aerie #3226 Board of Trustees
