A step of obedience John 14:15 By obeying Christ s command I am submitting to His authority and recognizing His right to be Lord of my life. iii. A step of commitment Mark 8:34; Matthew 10:32 in baptism I am saying before God, my fellow believers, and the whole world, that I have made my choice; that my life from this day forward is committed to Jesus Christ. iv. Details: What to expect. iii. Signifies: Romans 6:11-14 It signifies that what God s Word says is true for all who receive Christ, is also true for me. The power of sin and Satan has been broken in my life and I can walk in newness of life in Him. If we let the reality of this truth grip us, our baptism can be an important step of victory for us. iv. Seals: Jude 24-25 Often after important victories in the lives of His people, God commanded them to erect memorial stones so they might never forget they were God s children; committed to His care and keeping power. In the same way, the day of my baptism can be a memorial before God, sealing my commitment to Jesus Christ until the day of His return! v. Affirms Galatians 3:27-28 It affirms that we are united with God s family. I am a part. I no longer stand alone. I recognize that no one is an island. I am complete only in Christ. Now I unashamedly confess that I belong to God s family and I am united in faith with my brothers and sisters in God s household. Plan on giving a small testimony: Can be as small as Today I get baptized because I love Jesus Plug your nose Do NOT wear white or anything that becomes see through when it gets wet.

WATER BAPTISM CLASS THE PASSAGES Adams Center Baptist Church adamscenterbaptistchurch.com Matthew 3:13-17 New International Version (NIV) 13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me? 15 Jesus replied, Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness. Then John consented. 16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. 1 Peter 2:21 New International Version (NIV) 21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in his steps. Matthew 28:19-20 New International Version (NIV) 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 3:5-9 New International Version (NIV) 5 People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region of the Jordan. 6 Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. 7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them: You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? 8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. 9 And do not think you can say to yourselves, We have Abraham as our father. I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. Acts 2:37-38 New International Version (NIV) 37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, Brothers, what shall we do?

38 Peter replied, Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 8:36-38 New International Version (NIV) 36 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized? [37] [a] 38 And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. Acts 2:41 New International Version (NIV) 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. Acts 9:17-18 New International Version (NIV) 17 Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit. 18 Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, Romans 6:3-4 New International Version (NIV) 3 Or don t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. Matthew 1:21 New International Version (NIV) 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, [a] because he will save his people from their sins. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 New International Version (NIV) 15 Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance [a] : that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, John 14:15 (NIV) 15 If you love me, keep my commands. Mark 8:34 New International Version (NIV) 34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. Matthew 10:32 New International Version (NIV) 32 Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. Romans 6:3-14 New International Version (NIV) 3 Or don t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, [a] that we should no longer be slaves to sin 7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. 11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. 14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.

Galatians 3:20 New International Version (NIV) 20 A mediator, however, implies more than one party; but God is one. Jude 24-25 New International Version (NIV) 24 To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy 25 to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore Galatians 3:27-28 New International Version (NIV) 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
