Fourteenth Sunday after Trinity August 28, 2016! And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. Luke 17:15 16a NKJV
Divine Service (Setting Three, page 184 ff.) Because the eating and drinking of our Lord s body and blood in an unworthy manner may cause the Lord to discipline us, (1 Corinthians 11:27 28) and because partaking in the Lord s Supper is a public confession of the faith which is taught at this altar, the Lord s Supper is offered only to those who have been adequately instructed in the teachings and practices of this church and are able to examine themselves. Those who are not yet instructed, in doubt, or who hold a confession differing from that of this congregation and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, are asked to first speak with the Pastor before coming to the Table of our Lord. We consider it a privilege to offer a class of instruction for those unfamiliar with what we believe, teach, and confess. INTROIT Fourteenth Sunday after Trinity Behold our shield, O God; look on the face of your anointed! For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. Ps: 84:1 2a, 4, 10b, 11b; antiphon: Ps. 84:9 10a How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of hosts! My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the LORD. Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise! I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. The LORD bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. Behold our shield, O God; look on the face of your anointed! For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. COLLECT OF THE DAY O Lord, keep Your Church with Your perpetual mercy; and because of our frailty we cannot but fall, keep us ever by Your help from all things hurtful and lead us to all things profitable to our salvation; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. VERSE Ps. 65:1 Alleluia. Praise is due to you, O God, in Zion, and to you shall vows be performed. Alleluia.

Your faith has made you well. Luke 17:19. Only one of the ten lepers who had been cleansed returns to give thanks to Jesus. Why is that? Surely the rest were indeed thankful to be freed from such a terrible disease. But only the Samaritan leper had faith: and his faith turned into action, as all true faith does. Our generosity to God s work in the Church is likewise our faith in action.
