Church Bodies Inter-Church Relationships of The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod In the triennium just now coming to an end, the inter-church relationships of the LCMS have been growing by leaps and bounds. In addition to our growing family of official Partner Church bodies with which the LCMS enjoys altar and pulpit fellowship, the LCMS also has a growing number of church bodies with which we collaborate in various ways, but with which we do not yet have altar and pulpit fellowship (we might unofficially call these Allied Church bodies). We presently have thirty official partnerships that have already been recognized by the LCMS in convention (some of long standing) and an additional seven partnerships to be considered for official declarations of altar and pulpit fellowship by this convention. We also enjoy positive and growing relationships with an additional twenty-one of these Allied Church bodies, many of which are in various stages of altar and pulpit fellowship talks with the LCMS. In addition, the LCMS also has what we might call Emerging Relationships with six Lutheran church bodies that we are getting to know, but with which we do not yet have a formal relationship. Most of these have approached the LCMS out of a desire to share our solid, Biblical theology. These various relationships make for a total of 70 Lutheran church relationships in a total of 55 countries! Lastly, the LCMS also has a growing number of Ecumenical Relationships with non-lutheran church bodies for the sake of dialog and cooperatio in externis.
