On the occasion of their younger children s baptism, Emily and Andrew Thompson are offering the baptismal set used in today s baptisms to the congregation at Marion United Methodist Church. They offer these liturgical vessels to the glory of God and in honor of their three children, Alice, Stuart, and Anna Charlotte. The baptismal set consists of a pitcher, bowl, and ladle. It was hand crafted especially for today s service by Katherine Owen, an artist who lives and works in Easley, South Carolina. Ms. Owen s liturgical pottery features both Christian imagery and text. The vessels used in the worship service today show the image of the dove descending, a sign of the Holy Spirit connected with Jesus own baptism. Also present on the bowl and pitcher are inscriptions from the baptismal liturgy, including the prayer for the coming of the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit work within you, that being born through water and the Spirit, you may be faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. The rec. dept. is having an indoor co-ed volleyball league starting on Oct. 7 th. Games are on Monday and Thursday nights starting at 6. You must be at least 18 yrs. old to participate.
