Elder s Message Note of Appreciation: from Marcia Wilcox This past spring I resigned from the positions I was filling at our church due to family health issues and my declining eyesight. I am so aware of the kind souls who have stepped up and assumed these positions. My sincere thanks to Joyce Read and Sylvia Selden for playing the organ and piano, providing musical leadership on Sunday mornings My deepest appreciation to Lyle Seaman for assuming the responsibilities of Worship and Music. She has also successfully found someone to fill the pulpit each Sunday. Last but certainly not least a grateful Thank You to Denise McPherson for assuming the daunting and frustrating job as Chair of the Pastoral Nominating Committee. I know she will do her best and is certainly the right person for the position. To all the above, accept my love and sincere gratitude. I also wish to thank all the congregation for your love, support and prayers over the past years. Blessings on all of you, the congregation of Waldport Community Church. Sincerely Marcia Wilcox Sunday Morning Bible Study Starting October 8th at 9:00am Sue Adams and Denise McPherson will lead an adult Bible Study entitled We Are Presbyterians. Sue says we are glad to offer this class as a resource to introduce the Presbyterian Church (U.S. A) The class will provide reflections on what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ and to express that discipleship as a member of the Presbyterian Church. If you are interested please sign-up on the clipboard in the Narthex. We need you to sign-up by September 18th so the books can be ordered. Light refreshments will be served. Page 2

SESSION HIGHLIGHTS Barbara Hare, Clerk of Session HIGHLIGHTS OF STATED SESSION MEETING August 13, 2017 All Elders were present: Moderator Montee Kennedy presided. Communion was served on August 6, 2017, to 25 people with Rev. John Nestor providing pulpit supply. Average Worship attendance in July was 25. Membership roll reflects 31 members. Key Calendar Dates: Red Cross Blood Drive will be August 18, 2017, from 11:30am to 4:30pm in the Fellowship Hall. The Congregational Meeting will be held October 29, 2017, following Worship. Pastoral Search Committee chair, Denise McPherson, stated the committee had met and is revising the Mission Statement. They will meet again on September 2rd. As of this time there are no prospects wanting a part-time position at our Church. Worship & Music chair, Lyle Seaman, will need help planning the Advent season. She has several possibilities of programs in mind but will need assistance from everyone. Pulpit supply of pastors is going well. Each Sunday in September is filled and October is almost filled. Wednesday Bible Study Group The Wednesday Bible Study group, under the leadership of Barbara Chase & Lyle Seaman, will resume meeting on Wednesday, September 20th at 11:30am, with a potluck at the home of Barbara Chase. The group will resume their study on September 27th with Chapter 8 of the Sermon on the Mount study book. Books are still available for $8.00. Page 4
