Pastor s Message Dear Parishioners of Saint Basil the Great Parish! Слава Ісусу Христу! The thought that there is still time crosses my mind as I prepare this week s message. Time for what? We might immediately think of life itself. Certainly, any conscientious follower of Christ wants to be aware that this earthly life of ours is definitely fleeting. In fact, all thinking people give thought to the fact of our mortality on a regular basis. You might have heard Benjamin Franklin s wry adage that the only two things certain in this world are death and taxes. Yes, our time is limited as this life will end one day, today or later. But we also want to be aware that there is still time in this life to do good for ourselves and for those around us. However, what I had in mind was something less solemn, but still very urgent all the same. October, as you know, is a month traditionally dedicated to the Holy Rosary. I know many of you pray the Rosary daily as it is every month of the year, not just this one. In fact, I am inspired by the way St. Basil Parish enjoys praying the Rosary prior to the Divine Liturgy and at many other times. However, October is not so much a month when we pray the Rosary, which most do already, but a month when we celebrate and promote the Rosary. Perhaps this month we can start praying the Rosary as we go for a walk. We can begin the habit of praying the Rosary on the way to or from the Doctor s office, shopping, bowling, a movie, dinner, etc. (It is a great way to pass the time and relax the nerves while driving as well as a means to draw us closer to the Lord and His Blessed Mother.) We can also use October to invite our family or at least our spouse to pray a Rosary as some point during every day. There is still time. We find ourselves coming to the end of the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy declared by Pope Francis. This year ends in about a month (November 26 th as extended by the head of our Church His Beatitude Sviatoslav). If you have not yet obtained a plenary indulgence by making a good Sacramental Confession and receiving Holy Communion worthily while also making a pilgrimage to one of Holy Doors in Winnipeg then what are you waiting for? You want to do this for yourself first of all, but then also for your deceased loved ones. See the Archeparchial website (www.archeparchy.ca) of the Vatican website (www.im.va) for the details. The Jubilee Year will soon be over, but at this moment there is still time. God bless you all! Know that He loves you and wants you to be truly happy! Fr. Michael, Parish Priest
