Church of the Ascension Prayer Service Healing from Violence February 27th, 2018

Exposition The presider comes to the altar, bows, puts on humeral veil, and brings the Eucharist from the tabernacle to the altar. Eucharist is incensed while the following prayers are lead: Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death Amen. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. This series is repeated three times Silent Adoration 2

Prayer for Peace In Our Communities: O Lord our God, in your mercy and kindness, no thought of ours is left unnoticed, no desire or concern ignored. You have proven that blessings abound when we fall on our knees in prayer, and so we turn to you in our hour of need. Surrounded by violence and cries for justice, we hear your voice telling us what is required... Only to do justice and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God (Mi 6:8). Fill us with your mercy so that we, in turn, may be merciful to others. Strip away pride, suspicion, and racism so that we may seek peace and justice in our communities. Strengthen our hearts so that they beat only to the rhythm of your holy will. Flood our path with your light as we walk humbly toward a future filled with encounter and unity. Be with us, O Lord, in our efforts, for only by the prompting of your grace can we progress toward virtue. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. (Colossians 3: 15) 3

Rosary with Sorrowful Mysteries Make the Sign of the Cross. Holding the Crucifix, say the Apostles' Creed. I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. On the first bead, say an Our Father. Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Say one Hail Mary on each of the next three beads. Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death Amen. Say the Glory Be. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 4

For each of the five decades, announce the Mystery then say the Our Father. Next say ten Hail Marys for each of the beads of the decade while meditating on the Mystery. Then say Glory Be. After finishing each decade, say the following prayer requested by the Blessed Virgin Mary at Fatima: O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell; lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who have most need of your mercy. The Sorrowful Mysteries The Agony in the Garden: Jesus sweats water and blood while praying the night before his passion. The Scourging at the Pillar: Pilate has Jesus whipped. The Crowning with Thorns: Roman soldiers crown Jesus' head with thorns. The Carrying of the Cross: Jesus meets His mother and falls three times on the way up Calvary. The Crucifixion: Jesus is nailed to the cross and dies before His mother and His apostle John. After saying the five decades, say the Hail, Holy Queen: Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To you we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to you we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn, then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us; and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Close with this dialogue and prayer: V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Let us pray: O God, whose Only Begotten Son, by his life, Death, and Resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech thee, that while meditating on these mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen. 5

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Ephesians 4: 32 Silent Adoration Reflection on the Causes of Violence Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14: 27 6

Prayer to End Violence Silent Adoration If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other. Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta Reflection on Healing and Reconciliation Silent Adoration If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. Matthew 6: 14-15 7

After finishing each decade, say the following prayer requested by the Blessed Virgin Mary at Fatima: O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell; lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who have most need of your mercy. The Joyful Mysteries The Annunciation: The Archangel Gabriel "announces" to Mary that she shall conceive the Son of God. The Visitation: Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth, who is pregnant with John the Baptist. The Nativity: Jesus is born. The Presentation: Mary and Joseph "present" Jesus in the Temple where they meet Simeon. The Finding in the Temple: After losing Him, Mary and Joseph find young Jesus teaching the Rabbis in the Temple. After saying the five decades, say the Hail, Holy Queen: Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. Amen. 9

Benediction Tantum Ergo (verse 5 & 6 found on back page) Presider: You have given them Bread from Heaven. All: Having all sweetness within it. Presider: Let us pray. Presider: Lord Jesus Christ, you gave us the Eucharist as the memorial of your suffering and death. May our worship of this sacrament of your body and blood help us to experience the salvation you won for us and the peace of the kingdom where you live with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. All: Amen After the prayer, the presider puts on the humeral veil, genuflects, and takes the monstrance. He makes the sign of the cross with the monstrance over those gathered, in silence. Reposition After the blessing, the Blessed Sacrament is removed from the monstrance and brought to the place of reservation. Meanwhile, the presiding minister may lead those assembled in the Divine Praises. Each acclamation is repeated by all, together. 10
