CHURCH WOMEN UNITED SELECTS "Human Rights" recipient Sister Antona Schedlo was selected by Church Women United as the 2016 recipient of the Human Rights Award at their meeting on July 12th at the Southside Senior Center in La Crosse. Sister Antona began the outreach center at the Baptist Church for Hispanics new to our community to learn English and to intergrate into the community. The underwear that our people gave for New Horizons was very much appreciated. Thanks to all those donors. SPECIAL NOTICE TO CRAFTERS! Church Women United is looking for homemade lap robes, wall hangings, table runners or quilts to sell at the national meeting of CWU in October. They will be sold with the funds going to YCWU (Young Church Women United). The meeting in Louisville will celebrate seventy-five years of existence so it is a special time. Maybe you like to make things but have nowhere to use them, here is a chance to use your skill for a worthy cause. To the Members of the Presbyterian Church of West Salem: I want to thank everyone for the beautiful cards and expressions of sympathy you have given to me and my family during this time of loss for my sister Barbara. Also thank you for the basket of plants that was sent the day of her funeral. I truly appreciate all of your love and support. ~ Claudia Olson

Page 3 A Note from Pastor Stephanie: On the Sundays of August 14, 21, and 28 our Worship time together will focus on Faith, Hope and Love. There will be special things taking place each Sunday that you won t want to miss Skits, Congregation participation, special music, and object lessons for all of us. In 1 Corinthians 13, while giving instructions and important advice to the believers at Corinth because of their many and varied disorders, Paul reminds them of the high value and necessity of faith, hope and love! On August 14 th we focus on Faith In viewing the many emphases of faith throughout the Scriptures, whether in the Old Testament or New Testament, one thing is certain: faith is a basic and necessary quality of the believer. Moreover, true faith in the vocabulary of Christians is not only belief and trust, but also faithfulness and loyalty. To receive this gift of faith, we simply need to ask God for it, and believe that we have received it. However, faith is much more than just a miracle cure for the disease of sin; it is also the key to living the Christian life. On August 21 st we focus on Hope - Christian hope is not simply a trembling, hesitant hope that perhaps the promises of God may be true. It is the confident expectation that they cannot be anything else than true. When grounded in God, hope provides the motivation to live a Christian life even in the face of trouble. Hope has been compared first to a soldier s helmet, because it protects the mind, and then to the sailor s anchor, because it steadies the heart on the stormy seas of life. On August 28 th we will focus on Love - which Paul says is the greatest of these three gifts. It takes all of a person to achieve Christian love; it takes not only our heart; it takes our mind and our will as well. The truth is that we all want to be part of an effective church for God, and in today s climate we need to shine brighter than we have ever done before. The church tries all sorts of gimmicks to quell falling numbers, but God simply wants us to come back to the basics. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. (I Corinthians 13: 13) That s about as basic as we can get! We look forward to you joining us for Fellowship and Worship as we all work at growing in Faith, Hope and Love! Hugs, Pastor Stephanie
