READINGS THIS WEEK COLLECT O God, it is your will to hold both heaven and earth in a single peace. Let the design of your great love shine on the waste of our wraths and sorrows, and give peace to your Church, peace among nations, peace in our homes, and peace in our hearts; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS God of compassion and forgiveness, receive our offering this day, and make us one with him who is our peace, Jesus Christ our Saviour. PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION Eternal God, in you we find peace beyond all telling. May we who share in this heavenly banquet be instruments of your peace on earth, in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord. MICAH 4:1-5 In days to come the mountain of the Lord s house shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be raised up above the hills. Peoples shall stream to it, and many nations shall come and say: Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths. For out of Zion shall go forth instruction, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He shall judge between many peoples, and shall arbitrate between strong nations far away; they shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning-hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more; but they shall all sit under their own vines and under their own fig trees, and no one shall make them afraid; for the mouth of the Lord of hosts has spoken. For all the peoples walk, each in the name of its god, but we will walk in the name of the Lord our God for ever and ever. NOVEMBER 8, 2015 7

EPHESIANS 2:13-18 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace; in his flesh he has made both groups into one and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us. He has abolished the law with its commandments and ordinances, so that he might create in himself one new humanity in place of the two, thus making peace, and might reconcile both groups to God in one body through the cross, thus putting to death that hostility through it. So he came and proclaimed peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near; for through him both of us have access in one Spirit to the Father. JOHN 16:23-33 On that day you will ask nothing of me. Very truly, I tell you, if you ask anything of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. I have said these things to you in figures of speech. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures, but will tell you plainly of the Father. On that day you will ask in my name. I do not say to you that I will ask the Father on your behalf; for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. I came from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and am going to the Father. His disciples said, Yes, now you are speaking plainly, not in any figure of speech! Now we know that you know all things, and do not need to have anyone question you; by this we believe that you came from God. Jesus answered them, Do you now believe? The hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each one to his home, and you will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone because the Father is with me. I have said this to you, so that in me you may have peace. In the world you face persecution. But take courage; I have conquered the world! NOVEMBER 8, 2015 8

PSALM 127 Chant No. 2 Unless the Lord / builds the house,* their labour is in / vain who build it. Unless the Lord watches / over the city,* in vain the watchman / keeps his vigil. It is vain that you rise so early and go to / bed so late,* vain, too, to eat the bread of toil for he gives to his be-/lov-ed sleep. Children are a heritage / from the Lord,* and the fruit of the womb / is a gift. Like arrow in the hands / of a warrior* are the children / of one s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver / full of them!* He shall not be put to shame when he contends with his enemies / in the gate. Introit Text They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them. Words: R. L. Binyon (1869-1943) Psalm Text 1 God is our hope and strength, a very present help in trouble. NOVEMBER 8, 2015 9

2 Therefore will we not fear, though the earth be changed, and though the hills be carried into the midst of the sea; 3 Though the waters thereof rage and swell, and though the mountains shake at the tempest of the same. 4 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. 5 There is a river, the streams whereof make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. 6 God is in the midst of her, therefore shall she not be moved; God shall help her, and that right early. 7 The nations make much ado, and the kingdoms are moved; but God uttereth his voice, and the earth doth melt away. 8 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. 9 O come hither, and behold the works of the Lord, what wonders he hath wrought upon the earth. 10 He maketh wars to cease in all the world; he breaketh the bow, and snappeth the spear in sunder, and burneth the chariots in the fire. 11 Be still then, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, and I will be exalted in the earth. 12 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Communion Motet Text Why these bitter words of the dying, O brethren, which they utter as they go hence? I am parted from my brethren. All my friends do I abandon, and go hence. But whither I go, that understand I not, neither what shall become of me yonder; only God, who hath summoned me knoweth. But make commemoration of me with the song: Alleluia. But whither now go the souls? How dwell they now together there? This mystery have I desired to learn, but none can impart aright. Do they call to mind their own people, as we do them? Or have they forgotten all those who mourn them and make the song: Alleluia. NOVEMBER 8, 2015 10

We go forth on the path eternal, and as condemned, with downcast faces, present ourselves before the only God eternal. Where then is comeliness? Where then is wealth? Where then is the glory of this world? There shall none of these things aid us, but only to say oft the psalm: Alleluia. If thou hast shown mercy unto man, O man, that same mercy shall be shown thee there; and if on an orphan thou hast shown compassion, the same shall there deliver thee from want. If in this life the naked thou hast clothed, the same shall give thee shelter there, and sing the psalm: Alleluia. Youth and the beauty of the body fade at the hour of death, and the tongue then burneth fiercely, and the parched throat is inflamed. The beauty of the eyes is quenched then, the comeliness of the face all altered, the shapeliness of the neck destroyed; and the other parts have become numb, nor often say: Alleluia. With ecstasy are we inflamed if we but hear that there is light eternal yonder; that there is Paradise, wherein every soul of Righteous Ones rejoiceth. Let us all, also, enter into Christ, that all may cry aloud thus unto God: Alleluia. Words: from the Order for the Burial of Dead Priests Greek Orthodox Rite Choral Benediction Text Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word. For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; To be a light to lighten the Gentiles, and to be the glory of thy people Israel. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be. Amen. NOVEMBER 8, 2015 11

Saints Alive returns on Thurs. Nov. 12; 2 4; in the Cathedral (in the entry area). As always, all are welcome, men and women, but especially on the 12th, as we will be exploring the idea of a Friends of the Cathedral and we need your input. Just as the Saints Alive grew out of the former Cathedral League, the concept of a Friends of the Cathedral is seen as a logical successor to carry on the mandate of the former Cathedral League. To help our understanding of a Friends of the Cathedral, we welcome to Saints Alive the Diocesan Controller, Mr. Peter Flemming, who will address how the financial structure of a Friends of the Cathedral could look. Save the date (Thurs. Nov. 12) and plan on attending (2 4). NOVEMBER 8, 2015 16

NEW! AUTOMATIC OFFERING Enjoy the convenience of the Cathedral Church of All Saints Automatic Offering (formerly known at PAR) and enhance your support of the Cathedral Church of All Saints. Every year, the Cathedral runs an operating deficit. The deficit is of particular concern during the summer period when regular church attendance declines due to vacations and offerings experience a seasonal decline. Our growth has been steady over the past few years but more work remains to be done. 2012 47 contributors (21%) $6,700 monthly 2013 54 contributors (24%) $7,500 monthly 2014 72 contributors (32%) $9,400 monthly Now 70 contributors (31%) $9,200 monthly We have clearly reached a plateau and Council has endorsed a plan that targets 40% participation by December 31st. This means we need 23 new families to enroll over the next 2 months. Whether or not I am there..my church has financial commitments every week that need my offering. My church is important to me, and so is my financial commitment to its work. That is why I use the Direct Deposit Offering system to fulfill my commitment." Two-step participation in this program could not be easier: 1.0 Complete the authorization card and attach a void cheque. Your account will be debited on or about the 20 th of each month. 2.0 Place on collection plate, pass to a sides-person or drop off at the Cathedral Office. You can also feel free to call Sarah in the office at (902)423 6002 to assist with the enrollment. You may continue additional or special offerings by envelope. NOVEMBER 8, 2015 18
