Community Outreach The Power of One The Convention of States was started by one person talking to one other person who talked to another. That s why I know it will be individuals that will continue to drive our cause. The "Power of One" is the recognition that each of us has a uniue ability. Helping a person identify that trait will enable him/her to better contribute to the Convention of States movement. Some of us are able to reach beyond what we understand to be our limitations in very simplistic ways. Others need to work within their comfort zones. In either case, many hands make light work. Meetings are a great place to learn, discuss strategy, and motivate. It is imperative, however, that we move out of our meeting rooms and touch those who are potential supporters but who don t even know it. Step 1 I begin by encouraging Patriots to come out of the closet and to identify themselves as Constitutional Conservatives. They can wear COS shirts, hats or lapel pins. Being able to identify other COS Supporters while in public is encouraging. This also allows those who don't know us to ask uestions about our Article V movement. You can hand out business cards that say what we stand for. A great place to get inexpensive business cards printed is through Vista Print on the web. For $10 (and no shipping fees) you can have 250 cards printed! Step 2 I've created "The Patriot Booth". This is an information booth that can be located anywhere people gather. I've been setting up at Farmers Markets, outside the gates of local fairs and shopping centers where I have secured their permission. At one location I gathered 30 new petition signers in 3 hours. The purpose of the booth is to have a presence, recruit, and hand out information. We do not ask for donations, we are there to provide information. Materials needed to set up: Table (just one) with a chair for each person helping. An umbrella if it is hot. COS banner/yard sign or poster (if you have one) or just an American flag COS Information:

Goodwill towards others and our community. We have set an example for others to follow. We have put a human face on COS. New Petition Signers! New recruits to help with lobbying efforts in your district! It gives you and your team a chance to share the knowledge they have acuired about the Convention of States Project. YOU HAVE CREATED ACTION!!! The only way to win our country back is through education and passing our Resolution in 34 states! District Captain Plan of Action Template STATE HOUSE DISTRICT SENATE DISTRICT Your goal as a District Captain is to collect the following information for your district House and Senate District: Do you know your legislators position on COS? Evaluate Why they hold the position they hold (JBS Influence, ignorance, in the pocket of Eagle forum, etc., fear, preoccupied with other issues, etc.). Evaluate the level of their influence in their committee and in their chamber. Are they a power broker? Who might they have influence over? Is the Legislator in a leadership position? If yes, how could this leadership position affect our COS efforts? Is the legislator on a key COS Committee? If they are opposed to COS, what are their weaknesses? Are they vulnerable? What is their Achilles heel? What actions are needed to either change their position or to remove them from office? If they are supportive of COS, what is their weakness? Are they in danger of losing their seat? What can be done, if anything, to strengthen their COS Position? Do they need volunteers with their campaign? Do they need additional COS Education? Can they be asked to influence other legislators who may be on the fence regarding COS? Are there any hot issues in your district that you can tie in with COS? For example do you have large employer in your District that carries a lot of influence? Maybe your District is impacted by EPA Regulations Evaluate your legislators (Rep and Senator) voting history since entering their office. What does their voting history say about their potential to support COS? Are they up for reelection this year? Does this legislator need to be replaced by someone who is a supporter of COS? Are they in the hip pocket of the our opponents (JBS/Eagle Forum, NAGR, etc.)? Are there any large Employers, Donors, Coalitions in the District that might be an excellent partner to influence the legislator for COS? Please make a list and reach out to these potential partners Write a list of who you know in the District that has strong political capital and influence that might be recruited to help in the District? Think influence. Think large network. Write a list of these potential influential district citizens Is their vote necessary to pass the COS Resolution? Evaluate the overall strengths and weaknesses for your House and Senate District as they relate to COS Categorize your district into one of the following categories: 1. COS Supportive (Confirmed) 2. The Self Government Principle of Morality The good influence of godly citizens causes a city to prosper, but the moral decay of the wicked drives it downhill. Proverbs 11:11 By John E. Schrock, Businessman Underline the key concepts found in this principle. Morality: What is it? Webster defines it as principles, standards, or habits with respect to right or wrong conduct. The Proverb relates it to godliness, meaning God-designed standards. It should be understood that God created man and beast with a purpose in mind. Each species was created after its kind, which means that each one was created with some fixed attributes. Man, however, was given a special gift the gift of reasoning. No animal can reason itself out of its created intent. A robin cannot decide its values or redesign its lifestyle. It functions according to its code and design. Likewise, man was created after his kind. However, he has two codes to live by a conscience (a sense of right and wrong for his kind) and commandments. We know by nature that it is wrong to kill, steal or destroy that which belongs to others that is conscience. That s why people do bad things in the dark or when no one is watching. Since man was given the gift of reason, he also needs commandments. These commandments become codes for proper functioning (moral codes). We need them because with our gift of reasoning we can reason ourselves away from our created conscience. Many rights and wrongs must be taught these are the commandments. But some rights and wrongs are part of our created human nature this is our conscience. When we harden our hearts and sear our God-given conscience, we become selfish, greedy and self-willed. This leads us away from our natural morals. Our conscience is not a true guide, unless it is governed by the commandments. God made man and beast as male and female for reproductive purposes. It is only the human that practices homosexuality. Only humans become addicted to drugs and alcohol and plan abortions. It may be legal or politically correct, but these things are still morally wrong. A business deal may be legal but still violate moral principles. Morality deals with justice for both parties, and is under a code of right and wrong given by the Designer. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you is not a suggestion but rather it is a functional principle. There are three ways to check your conscience: 1. Do you have a problem looking certain people in the eye or being transparent? 2. Are you afraid to openly discuss certain issues? 3. Do you feel uncomfortable talking about God or what is right? We are responsible before God and mankind to follow a moral code of ethics based upon truth from God and creation. The commandments were given as the guideline for human behavior. They teach respect for God and our fellow man. If we love God and Evaluate yourself from 1 to 10 Why did you give yourself this rating What benefits will you obtain by raising your rating? What specific action can you put into practice to test the benefits of this principle? Check list for the daily reading of this principle Completed our neighbors as ourselves, we will act morally correct. These laws and principles were not given just so we can please God, but they were designed and given with us in mind. We are the beneficiaries. We will do ourselves a favor by living and structuring ourselves and our societies upon them. Our forefathers understood this. That s why our constitution and system of laws are structured around God s commandments. It was to create a moral society. Most moral values are plain common sense. Just because we have been given the ability to reason and choose does not license us to break the moral standards for which we were created. Morality is simply a rule of conduct that is right right for you and right for me, according to the Designer. We might need to ask the man in the mirror if he knows what is right. This principle is part of the one year character development program: Foundations For Achievement. Thoughts to Ponder: When Wealth is lost......... Nothing is lost. When Health is lost......
