2 Welcome to Stella Maris in Baileys Harbor, Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, Jacksonport, Sister Bay & Washington Island Kevin McBride/Courtney Quirisfield Saturday, June 23, 2018-2:00 pm-baileys Harbor Tim McGill/Bridget Vanderzanden Saturday, June 23, 2018-2:00 pm-egg Harbor Winifred (Winnie) Dahlen-Egg Harbor Martin Gureski-Egg Harbor Adult Faith Formation Would Be Disciples Are you a disciple of Jesus? He is calling you by name. Have you heard Him lately? Do you have a little time to listen? Is there anything more important you need to do? Take a minute to reflect on these questions. I think most of us would say we are would be disciples. Perhaps disciples on a journey. A journey that gets detoured by so many life commitments. Yet this is the most important commitment we can make. We need to take time to pray, to grow in our faith and to serve. No matter how busy we are, THIS is the most important thing we can do. Take just fifteen minutes a day to stop and pray in whatever way you can. Try each day to serve in some way whether that is your family, your community or your church. Just being aware of this and giving in to the presence of God who is with you always can make great changes in your life. Take some time, to come together with others to learn and grow in your faith. Summer is a good time for reading. The Faith Formation Book Club will be meeting on the third Monday of the month at 10:00 am in Sister Bay during the summer. On June 18 they will be discussing The Death and Life of the Great Lakes by Dan Egan. On July 16 join them to look at A River in Darkness: One Man s Escape from North Korea by Masaji Ishikawa. All of these books can be purchased on line or at most book stores. Join in the conversation or just come to listen and learn. Once again this summer we will be offering Meeting Christ in Prayer. This is an 8 week life enriching experience based on the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius. This can help your prayer experience go richer and deeper. We will be meeting on Friday mornings in Baileys Harbor if there is an interest. Anyone is welcome and we especially invite Prayer Partners to consider coming together. For more information, please call Sharon Brabson at (920) 495-5314. Watch this space for more information on Alpha. Our first group of 28 people is half way through the sessions and will have many positive things to share with you. Notice: If you have an announcement to be read at Mass regarding your church activity, please send an email to Mary Gomoll at marygomoll@gmail.com. 5 The Most Holy Body & Blood of Christ-June 3, 2018 Worship and Music Column Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. At one time, this day was called Corpus Christi, the Latin words for the Body of Christ. This feast calls us to focus on two manifestations of the Body of Christ: the Holy Eucharist and the Church. The primary purpose of this feast is to focus our attention on the Eucharist. At every Mass our attention is called to the Eucharist and the Real Presence of Christ in it. The secondary focus of this feast is upon the Body of Christ as it is present in the Church. The Church is called the Body of Christ because of the intimate communion that Jesus shares with his disciples. He expresses this in the gospels by using the metaphor of a body in which He is the head. The Gospel of Mark describes Jesus Last Supper with his disciples as a celebration of the Jewish feast of Passover. The Jewish celebration of Passover is a memorial to and a ritual participation in the defining moment of Israel s history. It celebrates God s deliverance of his people from slavery in Egypt. The Passover meal includes many ritually important elements, such as unleavened bread, lamb and bitter herbs. It is a central obligation of the Jewish faith tradition to celebrate this meal and to give thanks to God for his deliverance and protection. In the description of the Passover meal found in today s Gospel, however, Mark omits many elements of the Jewish Passover meal. Instead he describes only those elements he believes to be most essential to the Christian Eucharist: Jesus took bread, blessed the bread, broke the bread and shared it with his disciples. Similar words and actions follow as Jesus shares the chalice with his disciples. This bread now shared is Jesus own body. Those who drink from the chalice are invited to share in a new covenant that will be sealed by Jesus own blood. We believe that Jesus is truly present to us in the elements of bread and wine. This celebration, as the Second Vatican Council taught us, is the source and summit of the Christian life. Our worship of Jesus in His Body and Blood calls us to offer to God our Father a pledge of undivided love and an offering of ourselves to the service of others.
