6 Composer Notes The sending home to God of our loved ones is a holy moment, a time to be keenly aware of the communion we share with the saints of heaven earth. This piece, inspired in part by the In Paradisum chant, calls upon the saints angels to welcome our loved one home, oining them in that oyous moment when God opens his arms enfolding the one we love with eternal oy. The verses are similar to the Litany of the Saints call by name those of past generations whom we wish to ask to gather round to welcome our beloved home. The verses have been fashioned so that the names of deceased family members may be inserted in place of those provided in the lyrics. This becomes a meaningful way of observing the memory of those who have gone before us in faith now rest in the oy of God s presence. This piece is fairly straightforward. Once the assembly is secure with the refrain, the choir can add the SAB harmonies for a fuller sound. The most practical way of singing the verses is to have a soloist, or, as heard on the recording, male female soloists, alternate on the verses. A solo singer will most likely render the various names clearly distinctly so they can be heard understood by the assembly. It should be fairly apparent that this piece is meant for the funeral liturgy, most probably as the closing song of farewell.
