FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 9, 2017 From the Desk of Fr. Ron, Recently, I was assisting with the transportation of a few youngsters to a summer camp. I inquired of one of them if their parent supplied them with funding for lunch and the answer was no. I immediately took out my wallet and counted out five dollars to give to the youngster, when he began to protest. I only need two for a piece of pizza, he said. I replied, What about a drink? I can have water from the fountain, he said. I finally prevailed upon him to take the five and share it with others if need be. That conversation was very refreshing. In most of my experience young people would have taken the money and ran with it. This youngster knew his need and didn t what to take advantage of my generosity. The encounter spoke volumes to me about how this child is being raised and the good job of parenting going on in his household. Can the same be said of each one of us concerning our spiritual upbringing when we encounter many others in our daily lives? In this weekend s Biblical lessons, St. Paul reminds us that we are people born again of the Spirit. The Spirit of Jesus should emanate from us in all our encounters with others. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live (Romans 8:13). How apparent is the Spirit of Jesus in your life? Can others recognize you as a friend of Jesus when they encounter you? Do the values of your life give witness to the values of God s Kingdom? As we dive into this summer season of refreshment, let us also allow our spiritual lives to be refreshed. Jesus says, "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest (Mt 11:28). Let us make sure we take some time this summer to rest in the Lord; to allow ourselves to be refreshed in spirit, as well as body. Let us allow our heavenly parent to form us in the values of His Kingdom. NATIVITY OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY PARISH COUNCIL MEETING July 17, 2017 7:00-9:00 PM @ Msgr. Paa Center Agenda Fr. Many were praying the Rosary before she arrived and as she had in May and June, our Lady appeared above the holmoak tree. In answer to Lucia s usual question What do you want of me?, our Lady answered, I want you to come here on the 13 th of the next month, to continue to pray the Rosary every day in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary, in order to obtain peace for the world and the end of the war, because only she can help you.
