Liturgical Calendar Supplement for 2017 Office for Divine Worship Following is a diocesan calendar of select liturgical celebrations arranged by season. Advent With Evening Prayer I of the First Sunday of Advent the New Liturgical Year of 2017 begins. Pastoral Note (PN): The Lectionary Cycles are Year A for the Sunday Cycle and Year I for the Weekday Cycle (Vol. II of the four-volume Lectionary). The official color for Advent is violet. In order to distinguish between Advent and the penitential season of Lent the bluer hues of violet may be used. A penance service is best celebrated on a weekday during the latter part of the season. (PN): Holy Communion may be brought to the sick at any convenient hour. Fri. April 14 Friday of the Passion of the Lord - a Funeral Mass is not permitted. - only the Celebration of the Lord s Passion is to be celebrated today. April 15 Holy Saturday (day) The Easter Vigil (night) - National Collection for the Holy Land (PN): Holy Communion is given only as Viaticum (before the Easter Vigil). (PN): Liturgical protocol states that the Easter Vigil should begin after nightfall (post initium noctis) and end before dawn of Easter Sunday. The Easter Vigil, throughout the Diocese of Toledo, is to begin no earlier than 8:30 p.m. Sun. April 16 Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord -Today is the 107 th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Diocese of Toledo -the Rite of Renewal of Baptismal Promises is repeated after the homily today. -the Creed is omitted. -sung double Alleluia dismissal at Mass. -The Easter Triduum ends with the completion of Evening Prayer.

Easter During the Octave of Easter (April 17 April 23): - a Funeral Mass may be celebrated. - a Ritual Mass for Matrimony may not be celebrated. - a Rite of Matrimony may be celebrated within the Mass of the Day. The orations, preface, blessing and readings are of the day. One reading may be from the Ritual Mass for Matrimony. A nuptial blessing may be given. - A Rite of Matrimony Without Mass may be celebrated. - The double Alleluia is given at the dismissal during the Easter Octave and on the of Pentecost and is NOT included on the Sundays of the Easter Season.
