Saint Patrick s Catholic Church 115 Maple Avenue, Victor NY 14564 Authentic faith, Welcoming and Engaging July 29-30, 2017: Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Welcome to the Family of God, Gavin, Hadley, Collins, Saylor & Luca! Thank you, parents (primary teachers of faith) and godparents (important helpers), for sharing your faith to your children and godchildren. To Evangelize is the reason why we, the Church, exist. Evangelization in three simple steps: Step One: Befriend Jesus. Step Two: Befriend others. Step Three: Bring your friends to Jesus. Parish Weekend Festival Food Truck Tickets Lunch for the Sunday, August 13, of our Parish Festival Weekend will be catered by Chef s, and the lunch tickets are now on sale at the Parish Office during weekdays and in the Children s Alcove during the weekend Masses. A lunch ticket will get you two sliders (choice of pulled pork, burger, chicken and avocado, black bean and corn fritter), fries or chips, and a drink. Chef s will be serving lunch from noon until 2 PM. Please note that you do not need a lunch ticket for the festival. Also, we are serving ice cream, cookies and beverages for free. Saint Patrick, pray for us and for the life of our parish community! Roamin Catholics Welcome! Have you been attending Saint Patrick s for a time and have not yet formally registered with us? Consider becoming part of our family. To register, please use the green form found on the Welcome Tables. We are truly glad that you re here with us! Celebrating the Year of the Eucharist Fall in love with Jesus more deeply Singing as Praying Comment: I find that there is too much singing at the 5:00 PM Sunday Mass. (unsigned) Answer: Thank you for your comment. I wish I knew what you meant by too much singing at the 5:00 PM Mass. If you meant the quantity of hymns, the number of songs we sing at each of the weekend Masses is the same: Processional Hymn, Offertory Hymn, Communion Hymn and Recessional Hymn, as well as the congregational parts in the Eucharistic Prayer. If by length of hymns, we usually tailor them according to the length of the liturgical action (see General Instruction of the Roman Missal, 83 and 86). For example, if there is a second collection, we tend to sing the Offertory Hymn longer; the same during Communion, depending on the attendance. Reading GIRM 83 and 86, one understands that we are encouraged to do only what is enough and to avoid unnecessary prolongation of any part of the Mass. Observe that recently we do our best to connect the hymns at Mass with the Gospel reading and the liturgical action. This we deliberately do to heighten our sense of praying to God and not just singing about ourselves. Singing the Mass is praying to God - I hope that we never forget this. For if we do, we might sadly reduce our singing at Mass as an intermission, and we might even end up not participating in the singing. If any other question, use the coupon below. Thank you. - Fr. Edison Do not be unbelieving but believing - John 20:27 Question: Diocesan Year of the Eucharist Fall in love with Jesus more deeply! Kindly place in the collection basket. Thank you! + + + Be holier today than yesterday. The only and truly sad thing in life is not to become a saint. + + +

Let there be light Seek First the Kingdom of God (Reflection on Matthew 13:44-52) a treasure buried in the field a pearl of great price... Simply speaking, the kingdom of heaven is to be sought after for its immeasurable value. Of course, the reality is Jesus has already revealed and initiated the beginnings of the kingdom in the definitive way. Living out our faith: Live everyday in light of the great treasure, that is, Jesus Christ. Let everything come only secondary in relation to him. out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field... The human response in finding the kingdom and in encountering Jesus is immense joy. Why? Because he brings joy that goes beyond the temporal (not just a passing joy), and that extends to eternity (joy that will last forever). Living out our faith: In a sense of gratitude and joy, identify the blessings that you have received from God today, those that the world cannot give. a net thrown into the sea... With regards to the kingdom, one s heart must be willing to listen and to discern. One must not be close minded so as to pre-filter the presence or absence of God. At the same time, one must be critical, in the positive sense, so as to identify what belongs to God from what is not. Living out our faith: What issues in life and in matters of faith do I tend to distance myself from? Listen to people who are passionate about these things. Reflecting on the Scripture Readings Last Monday, I had the wonderful opportunity of celebrating Mass for and with the families who gathered at Camp Koinonia in Middlesex, NY. These families were from our diocese and from that of Syracuse. Many of the parents have been doing this summer camp since they were children, and now they pass on the tradition to their own children. Before the Mass began, the lead family asked me for permission to allow some reflection and sharing after Communion. In this special setting and with no time constraints, I agreed to their request. I was truly impressed by their reflections - both those shared by the parents and their children. Listening to them, I knew that they listened carefully to the readings, probably even read them in advance. Also, they took the time to connect the readings with their daily personal lives. After the sharing, I spoke briefly to encourage them to continue such exercise within the family, and to even venture at sharing their thoughts to their respective pastors, in the hope that they might help the pastor gain pastoral insights and even formulate a meaningful homily. How about us at Saint Pat s? On Sundays, what about sharing your thoughts about the readings with your family while driving back home? On a weekday of choice, read and reflect on the upcoming Sunday readings. If you wish, you may share your thoughts with me through fr.edison.tayag@dor.org. - Father Edison
