As We Gather This Morning... The Lord s Supper is celebrated in our 11 a.m. service this morning. For those who prefer, non-alcoholic (white) Communion wine is in the center cups on the individual cup trays and gluten-free wafers are available. We believe in the real presence of Christ s body and blood in and with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of our sin in this meal. Visitors and guests who are baptized believers in Jesus, who share this belief in the body and blood of Jesus present in this meal, and who consider themselves in fellowship with us including what we believe and teach at Holy Cross are invited to join us in this Sacrament. For those who have not had opportunity to learn about this or who do not share this faith, we invite you to join us in song and prayer during that portion of the service. Youth and children are welcome to come to the rail for a blessing. We offer confirmation and early communion instruction to prepare them to receive this Sacrament. We also invite you to speak with Pastor Mike to learn more. The Lord s Supper is also served every week in our 7 p.m. service and the bread is gluten-free and homemade. Serving Holy Cross Are... Large-print worship folders and earphones are available from an usher. Please silence your cell phone prior to the service. Blue Prayer Request cards in the pews may be filled out and handed to an usher prior to our morning s prayers or placed in offering plate. All visitors are invited to complete a Guest Welcome Card also. Welcome, children! Child-friendly worship folders and Activity Bags are available from the ushers. Thank you for returning the bag and crayons for future use! We love having kids in the service, but if your little one needs attention, an usher can direct you to our Quiet Room (speakers and a window will help you follow the service) or to our unstaffed nursery. News for This Week... Feed My Starving Children returns to Spokane September 28-29, hosted at Redeemer Lutheran in the Spokane Valley. Fundraising is under way here at Holy Cross through the colored envelopes found in the narthex. Holy Cross has led the way the past two years with your generous donations and these children once again need your help. Just pick up an envelope and place the amount indicated inside the flap ($1-$47) and turn it in. Each set of envelops feed 5,000 kids and we are finishing up our second set of envelopes. So please, pick up an envelope, and pass the word along to your family, friends and neighbors about this important mission. They can go to give.fmsc.org/spokane to join in the fight against child hunger. The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor -Proverbs 22:9 The 2019 LCMS National Youth Gathering is just over one year away! If you missed the Informational meeting but have a youth that is interested in attending, please see Ben or Lindsay Anderson and let them know. The National Youth Gathering is a great faith building experience for youth. Call Ben (586-612-8779) or Lindsay (614-208-1639) to find out how your youth can be a part of it. Young adults, ages 19-24, are invited too! There are leadership roles for you contact Ben or Lindsay for more information. Shoe Drive: Mission Community Outreach Center is once again sponsoring their School Shoes for Kids Shoe Drive from July 2-August 10. We need your help collecting new shoes and socks (ages K-8th grade) for children in our community. There is a barrel in our narthex where shoes may be left and a volunteer will take them down to Mission Community Outreach where they will be distributed later in August. Helping Hands Ministry is still looking for some more volunteers. If you would like to be a part of this ministry and volunteer to help someone in our church family during a time of need, please fill out a form and return it to the basket on the round table in the narthex. You will be contacted when a need arises. Questions? Contact Barbara at 253-279-2017 Decaf Coffee Needed: Do you enjoy having a cup of decaf coffee at fellowship events at church? If so we could use your help as we are getting very low. Donations may be left in the kitchen and it will be put away by committee. Photo Wall Update: Our resident photographer, Mike Donahue is taking a break for the summer from his regular schedule, but if you would like to have your family picture taken, give him a call at 467-5764 to schedule a session. Food Pantry Needs: Our food pantry is in special need of tuna fish, canned fruit, and macaroni and cheese. Donated items may be left in the food barrel under the coat rack. Thank you. 7
