Joseph s Historic Role Through Joseph God was moving Jacob's family, this baby nation, to Egypt under unfavorable circumstances. Abram traveled to Egypt during time of famine and back. Isaac was prevented from going to Egypt during famine. Jacob was told to go to Egypt. God is going to transplant his little seedling of a nation into the soil of Egypt so that they will not be influenced or assimilated into the Canaanite culture that is deteriorating around them.
Joseph s Historic Role Just as Joseph was imprisoned but had God s presence with him so that he was given favor, so also the Israelites are going to suffer hardship but God is going to watch over them throughout these four hundred years. This was not to punish them, but to prepare them for His work in the world among the other nations.
Joseph s Historic Role Just as Joseph was exalted after his time of humbling, so also the descendants of Jacob would be exalted in the eyes of the Egyptians even being given great amounts of wealth before they left and they would be given their position of governing, which was God s purpose in setting Abraham s family apart.
Joseph s Historic Role Just as Joseph knew God would fulfill every promise to Abraham by taking his bones back to the land of Canaan, the Israelites could be assured that God would fulfill every promise and on that basis move forward no matter how impossible it looked.
I am the Lord Your God I have dominion over the WHOLE EARTH. What I say IS SO. I spoke seven times to Abram and established my covenant with him. I gave those promises to Isaac. I chose Jacob to receive those promises. Who brought you up out of the land of Egypt Abram went to Egypt and came out with many possessions, and Joseph was in Egypt to provide for the family but knew his bones would one day be taken out of Egypt back to Canaan. Out of the house of slavery Joseph was sold into slavery in Egypt but he was exalted because GOD was WITH HIM. God has been WITH US, too and has taken care of us.
