RELICS OF THE PASSION In alignment with the Holy Father s declaration of a Year of Mercy, we are pleased to present a unique opportunity for our community to discover the meaning of God s Mercy, as given to us via His Passion. The Relics of the Passion program is being brought to us as part of a special nationwide tour by the Apostolate for Holy Relics. The holy and sacred objects that they have brought here for us are something that most of us would only have a once in a lifetime opportunity to see once when visiting Rome or the Holy Land. Please join us for this special program that highlights a collection of rare relics from the Passion of our Lord from the Last Supper to the Resurrection, with prayer, music, reflection, and an opportunity for personal veneration. The program will be held here at St. Columbanus Church on July 25, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. The program will also be given in English/ Spanish at Church of the Assumption in Peekskill on July 27, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.

JULY 24, 2016 ST. COLUMBANUS CHURCH_ #481/PAGE 4 Thank you for your generous response to Joe Quattrocchi from Good Counsel home for single mothers and their children. Just a note on one of Joe s comments on the rise of human trafficking: the Catholic Church was praised internationally for their work against this evil. But because the Church did not include abortion as a part of her program, the Church was denied funding to continue the great work it was doing. As we approach the political season it is good to remember that the right to life is the most crucial consideration when we vote. To vote for people who are pro-abortion is to cooperate in the evil. If we do not place the True Trinitarian God and His teachings first in our lives, our country and the world will never attain peace or ameliorate conditions like poverty in the world. As we continue to experience hot weather, I would remind everyone to be modest in dress when coming to Mass. Our churches are AIR CONDITIONED. As I previously mentioned, as schools have dress down days, we will have a dress up day for Mass every first Sunday. Let s look our best for our Lord Jesus. We continue with the fifth installment of the letter on the Mass by ROBERT CARDINAL SARAH, from Guinea, who is Prefect of the Congregation for the Divine Worship: As for the homily, it too is a liturgical act which has its own rules. The participatio actuosa in the work of Christ presupposes that one leaves behind the profane world in order to enter into sacred action surpassing all others (Sacrosanctum Concilium, 7). In fact, we claim somewhat arrogantly to remain in the human sphere so as to enter into the divine (Robert Sarah, God or Nothing, Ignatius Press, Chapter IV). In this sense it is deplorable that the sanctuary in our churches is not strictly reserved for divine worship, that people enter it in worldly garb, that the sacred space is not clearly delineated by the architecture. And since, as the Council teaches, Christ is present in his word when it is proclaimed, it is equally harmful when readers are not dressed in a way that shows they are pronouncing not human words, but the Word of God. OUR LADY OF FATIMA STATUE Next year is the 100th anniversary of the Blessed Mother s apparition to the 3 children at Fatima. At that time, Our Lady told the children to pray the Rosary daily and offer sacrifices for sinners. If her requests were fulfilled, the war would end and sinners would be converted. St. Columbanus Parish has a statute of the Pilgrim Virgin, Our Lady of Fatima. We hope you and your family will open your hearts and welcome the statue into your home to pray the Rosary with family and friends. To set up a date, or for more information, please call Bobbi at 914-737-1416, or Ann at 914-402- 4374. VOCATION DISCERNMENT The Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne invite young women who are discerning a religious vocation to join us for a weekend of sharing in our life of prayer and apostolate in Hawthorne on July 29-31, 2016. Reservations are required. For information or reservations, please contact: Sister Alma Marie at (845) 745-1319 or vocationdirector@hawthornedominicans.org. ST. Highland Avenue, Ossining, will have their 39th Annual Italian Festival on Tuesday, July 19 through Sunday, July 24 from 6-11 p.m. There will be a fireworks display on Wednesday, July 20 (raindate Thursday, July 21).
