St. Rose of Lima Church 312 Ridgedale Avenue East Hanover, New Jersey 07936 www.saintroseoflimachurch.org Pentecost Sunday June 4, 2017 This weekend of Pentecost brings the Easter Season to a close. On this day we celebrate the Holy Spirit coming upon the Apostles and Disciples with courage and wisdom to teach and preach the Good News. As we celebrate this great weekend let us open our hearts to the Holy Spirit that we too will be courageous enough to be the disciples who God calls us to be. We look forward to Father s Day on June 18 th. Please remember to bring back the baby bottles which is, as you know, our Pro Life fundraiser for the year. On the Saturday before Father s Day, June 17 th, as is our tradition, the Knights of Columbus will host the Mass in the Park followed by the parish picnic. This is always a great time for old and young to get together following the Mass. I always enjoy celebrating Mass outdoors. It reminds me of what it must have been like when Jesus addressed the crowds and performed miracles outdoors. It s an amazing feeling to pray the Rite of Consecration in Lurker Park as our parishioners surround me on deck chairs and all the while traffic continues to stream up and down Ridgedale Avenue. The voice of Christ through us reaches to those whose lives we touch. Let us always be enthusiastic as we interact in His name. Also on June 18 th, we celebrate the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, Corpus Christi. For the last several years we ve enjoyed having our Eucharistic procession following the 10:00am Mass from the church through the parking lot, up Ridgedale Avenue and back to the church where we conclude with Benediction. For those of you who are tightly scheduled, please know this entire procession and Benediction takes no more than fifteen minutes. I encourage all parishioners, if possible, to join us for this. If you prefer to attend a different Mass, just meet us outside the church at 10:45am. We still have some openings for the ECC Summer Enrichment Program. We accommodate children between the ages of 3 and 9 years old. We offer a flexible schedule with many activities for the children. Please contact Carol Freeman (973)-887-1801 or cfreeman@stroseacad.org for more information. A big thank you to our young parishioner Robert Cincotta who, for his Eagle Scout project, repainted and mulched the Ridgedale lawn area. He was assisted by his dad and other Scouts with this project. Thanks to you our parishioners who gave generously to Robert s collection for this project. For those of you who will not be able to join us on the pilgrimage to Fatima, we have placed a special Mass intention and prayer form for your convenience inside the bulletin. Looking way ahead we re planning our next European pilgrimage to Rome, Italy for mid-september 2018. The primary purpose of this trip will be to attend the Diaconate ordinations at St. Peter s Basilica. I do intend as usual to celebrate Mass in many renowned basilicas and cathedrals. On this trip we hope to visit the hometown of many Avellino. While there I will celebrate Mass at the cathedral and we the Americans will meet the local community who are related to so many here in East Hanover. We intend to visit many southern locations in the Naples and Pompeii area. Our brochure will be available shortly. Father Owen

I'm thrilled to share that we do have the confirmed date of the Ordination. The dates we will be in Rome are Sept 25 through September 30, 2018. We are in the planning stages still, but we will be adding a Southern Italy pilgrimage to this trip as well, dates to be announced, but tentatively we would begin our trip to southern Italy on September 20th. Attending this ordination in Rome will be extraordinary. We are sharing this to begin to acquire a list of who will be joining us. Due to the Ordination, hotel rooms in Rome near the Vatican will sell out quickly, therefore we plan to secure our rooms now. If you are interested in joining Fr Owen on this special Pilgrimage to the Ordination in Rome in 2018, please email Stephanie Politi at spoliti@saintroseoflimachurch.org. as soon as possible. We will need a deposit of $250.00 per person to secure your reservation and room(s). Thank you for your generous support of my Eagle Scout Project. Through the help and assistance of many volunteers who logged in numerous hours of service, we were able to repair the terraces (on the side of the Church along Ridgedale Avenue), with cement and repaint them. In addition, we mulched the flower beds in the areas surrounding the terraces, and in the front entrance of the church. When you leave today, please take a look at the areas and see for yourself how your generous donations were used to assist in completing this project. Every Eagle Scout plans and executes a service project. This was an opportunity for me to give back to my church by conducting my project at St. Rose of Lima Church. Robert Cincotta

EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER SUMMER ENRICHMENT begins on Monday, June 19 th! Sign up your child NOW! Our exciting themes will lead into many exciting and enriching activities for the young learner! If you are interested in our newest toddler program, please call for more information and speak with our Director, Lorie Agrifolio for more details! Miss Donna s class discussed the last of our scholastic news magazines, and practiced writing letters on our white boards and printing our names. During playtime, we reviewed our patterning skills and counted how many objects were in our pattern! We are so sad that this will be our last week of school. We had so much fun this year and learned so many new things. Miss Lorie s class continued with their Show and Tell theme of a letter a week. Last week, the children had to bring in an item that began with a vowel. We had some great and inventive items to show off! We also enjoyed Spanish class with Senora Quintino, as we do every week! We are now accepting applications for our 2017/2018 school year. If you are interested in applying, or for a tour of our facility, please call 973-887-1801. You can also email cfreeman@stroseacad.org. The Early Childhood Center is looking for gently used riding toys for our playground (for toddlers and preschoolers). Please email cfreeman@stroseacad.org for more information or to donate these items. Thank You in advance for your generosity.
