Ancient Egyptian Mysteries and Freemasonry Esoteric Origins

Ancient Egypt Considered to be the Birthplace of the Mysteries. Egyptians were the most Highly Educated in Occult Sciences. Ceremonies of Initiation are Established in Ancient Egypt. A Mysterious Science of Symbolism. Other countries such as Rome, Greece, Asia and other countries of Europe.

Influence Wise Philosophers from other nations would travel to be initiated in the sacred mysteries by the priests. Famous philosophers such as Pythagoras, Aristotle and Plato from Greece.

Egyptian Mysteries The Priests were the teachers of the mysteries and were educated from early childhood. They held a so called knowledge not common to the so called educated. These Mysteries were confined to the Priests and the Initiates. Initiation was very difficult and only those who were truly dedicated for the knowledge would be able to succeed.

The Priesthood They held an important part in the government and with the Kings of Egypt. They are said to be the ones who organized and controlled the ceremonies of Initiation. The Priests taught in two ways. The general public received the exoteric doctrine while the esoteric was revealed to the chosen or select few.

3 Different Rites The Rites of Serapis The Rites of Isis The Rites of Osiris

Egyptian Religion The Egyptian God was named Ra. He was known as the Sun God. Ra was the father of all gods. He created Shu and Tefnut from his eyes. Shu has a son Seb who became the father of the first mortal gods on Earth. These gods were Osiris, Isis, Typhon, Nephythys and Horus.

The Story of Osiris According to the story when Osiris is born a voice from the heavens was heard throughout the world saying The Lord of all the Earth is Born Osiris took his sister Isis as his wife and Later became King of Egypt. In the Meantime Typhon was very jealous of Osiris and with the help of the queen of Ethiopa, Aso and 72 other conspirators perfected a plot to overthrow him. Typhon constructed an elaborate chest of the exact measurements of Osiris body.

The Story of Osiris Continued One evening the chest was brought into the banquet hall and Typhon said that he would give it to the person that it fitted exactly. After all the guests tried it out without any luck it was Osiris s turn. When he tried it out the conspirators closed the lid on him, nailed it shut and poured molten lead over it. The chest was carried to the Nile and thrown overboard where it joined the sea. When Isis heard of this, she set out in search of her husband throughout all of Egypt asking anyone she came in contact with.

The Story of Osiris Continued The chest had become lodged in the branches of a tree which grew and eventually covered the chest. Isis eventually takes the chest back into the desert. With some magic raises the body from the dead only in spirit and conceives their son Horus. She leaves the her son to grow older and also hides the chest that still has the remains of her husband in a remote hiding place. Typhon eventually finds the chest again and this time destroys the body into 14 different parts and scattered them throughout the country. Isis again set forth to find all the remains of her husband.

The Story of Osiris Continued She was able to find 13 of 14 parts and when she found each one. She buried it and built a sepulchre over the spot which became the center of what they call the Osirian Cult. Isis dies but here son Horus eventually becomes a man and avenges his father death and defeats Typhon after 2 battles. The second battle Horus is said to have lost his eye and this has become the recognized symbol of the wedjat-eye or also known as the all seeing eye.

Eye of Horus

Was Freemasonry derived from part of this Ancient Rite? Isis is the Mother of Mysteries- Freemasonry as an institution is basically Isis. From her Dark Womb intitiates are born in the mystery of the second birth. In Freemasonry we are reborn into a new life of enlightment. Isis became the Widow who aimlessly searched for the Body- Freemasonry the Craft searches for Hiram Abiff s Body. We as Master Mason s are Widow s Sons. Horus Becomes the avenger or posthumous redeemer. In Freemasonry we become similar to Horus Avenging the death of Hiram Abiff and joining together as a family to pass down the wisdom of Morals and Values to restore that Reign of the Great Architect of the Universe.

The Book of the Dead The original Egyptian name for the text was called Book of coming forth by day or also translated as Book of emerging forth by light

What is the Book of the Dead? It is an Ancient Egyptian Funerary Text. It is made up of the pyramid texts and coffin texts with certain spells added to it. The pyramid or coffin texts are known to have existed from about 4500B.C. to the early Christian Era. The name came from the Papyrus Scrolls found with mummies dead mans book. The collection of texts is the oldest body of literature in the world.
