Bob Brearley WE GATHER TO PRAISE Let us now prepare our hearts and minds to worship God. Prelude Give Me Jesus Beverly Fetter, Piano Alleluia Chancel Ringers arr. P. Johnson D. Wood This morning s Call to Worship is based on Psalm 66, which is a psalm that calls upon listeners to see the deeds God has done. Geoff McElroy writes that, The worship found in Psalm 66 is not worship for the sake of worship, but is worship because of the confidence found in God s deeds on behalf of God s people. *Call to Worship One: Come and see what God has done. ALL: God is awesome in God s deeds. One: God turned the sea into dry land. ALL: God s people passed through the river on foot. One: Make a joyful noise to God all the earth! ALL: Sing the glory of God s name! Alex Snyder Ellen Fleming * Please stand if able. 8:45 Service Only 11:00 Service Only *Opening Hymn 687 Our God, Our Help in Ages Past st. anne

*Prayer of Confession (All) Silence for Personal Confession In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen. Rev. Alan Dyer Gracious God, we love you, but too often we do not keep your commandments. We turn away from your path and love our way of life more than we love you. We love ourselves but forget to love our neighbors too. We live as if hope is not a word in our vocabulary. Forgive our misdirected love and help us to respond to your love in new ways each and every day. Strengthen us so that we may find hope in your promises and see your risen presence in Jesus Christ our Lord. *Assurance of Pardon *Gloria Patri h.w. greatorex Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen. WE SHARE OUR LIFE & GIFTS High School Graduate Recognition Sarah Elizabeth Bishop, Collier Ashton Lokey, Mary Janet Scarlett, Mary Banks Shelander, Bennett Scott Ward Joys and Concerns of the Church Preparation for Prayer (791) For You, My God, I Wait springtime Prayer of Thanksgiving and the Lord s Prayer (All) Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. Prayer is essentially an act of solidarity an expression of our own need, a yearning for a better world, a commitment to belonging together. We pray not only with our lips but with our lives. And every little act of justice, caring and generosity counts. Norman Shanks Offertory Jesus Loves Me Beverly Fetter, Organ Gabriel s Oboe Chancel Ringers arr. A. Whitworth E. Morricone, arr. J. *Affirmation of Faith (All) A Brief Statement of Faith In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve. In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God s new heaven and new earth, praying, Come, Lord Jesus! With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen. WE GO FORTH TO SERVE *Hymn of Dedication 353 My Hope is Built on Nothing Less solid rock *Benediction Choral Response (765) May the God of Hope Go with Us Postlude Rigaudon Beverly Fetter, Organ argentina Campra, arr. D. Wolff In the Charge and Benediction we are assured of God s peace and blessing; we seek to follow Christ s way, sustained by power of the Holy Spirit. God calls the church to join the mission of Christ in service to the world. As we engage in that mission, we bear witness to God s eternal reign. If You Are New Here. To Ponder Prayerfully The Christian Hope The Christian hope is the hope which has seen everything and endured everything, and has still not despaired, because it believes in God. The Christian hope is not hope in the human spirit, in human goodness, in human endurance, in human achievement; the Christian hope is hope in the power of God.
