Report on Visit to Precept Ministries in Scotland 15-18 March 2018 Nigel visited Precept Ministries in Scotland over the period 15-18 March 2018. The outline of the visit was: Thu 15 March Fri 16 March Sat 17 March Sun 18 Mar Flight from Bristol to Glasgow and hosted by Michael and Anne Healy PM Scotland Board Meeting Precept Training at Maryhill Evangelical Church Attend Church with Michael and Anne Healy Train back to Bristol (flight was cancelled due to snow) We conducted a Precept training workshop using the 40 Minute Ignite Your Passion for God at Maryhill Evangelical Church in Glasgow. There were 20 people who attended. We started the training at 0930 and finished just after 1 pm. Derek Hopper kindly ran the book stand. Photos of the training are below with feedback comments in italics. Having led them through Lesson 1 Nigel split the group into small groups to continue studying themselves. Very informative and useful. Many tips and insights on teaching and encouraging others and myself. Very interested to hear about plans for a Precept Scotland Bible school. These ladies plan to continue studying 3 young people and two church leaders are fully engaging
A great morning studying God s Word. A relaxed, well run, informative workshop. I have begun to ignite my passion to study God s Word again. I found the course to be very helpful and informative. One lady plans to use Precept with immigrants. Another lady overseas 5 different Chinese classes in Glasgow, with some 60 people studying. Roddy Macleod, at the head of this table is s huge fan on Precept. Finoa (above) commented Very helpful study technique. Thoroughly enjoyable way of engaging with and applying Biblical truth. I would highly recommend this.
Other feedback comments included: Good to meet and learn more about leading the 40 Minute Bible studies. I have found it useful as an additional resource for a group of non- Christians/English as a second language learners. Enlightening as to the principles of Precept studying. It is a great way to slow down reading the Bible. I am not a good reader or good at sitting still for long but I enjoyed this different way of learning. Those who attended the training were strongly encouraged to continue to complete the 40 Min study (we only completed Lesson 1) and to meet with others to do so. At the end of the training we mentioned a follow up training on 12 May and our attendance at the Refuel Conference in July. We also had a very positive initial feedback from attendees to a question about setting up a Bible school in Scotland.
Group photo with all participants. Later on that day we watched a rugby international between Ireland and England. Michael Healy is originally from Ireland. Sad to say England lost! On the final Day Nigel accompanied Michael and Anne Healy (photo to the right) to church, walking there from their house in the snow. Nigel met with the Pastor and Assistant Pastor of Michael and Anne s church. After the service we scouted out their church as a possible venue to run a Bible school from. Michael and Anne will look at possible locations to run the training in the days ahead. After church we went out for lunch and went to the airport for Nigel s return flight from Glasgow to Bristol. Sadly, due to the snow and bad weather in Bristol, the flight was cancelled and therefore Nigel decided to return by train.
View out of the train from Glasgow to Bristol. This was a very useful trip on a number of fronts. People engaged well with the Precept training. The next events in Scotland are the Men s Conference on 28 April 2018 followed by the Precept training on 12 th May. We will also have an exhibition stand and seminars at the Refuel National Conference in July. We will continue to pray about where and when to set up a Precept Bible school in Scotland.
